Leisure Travel Services (LTS) and Outdoor Recreation (ODR) provide many opportunities to you, your Family and friends to discover the wonders of living in Europe. As an ID card holder you can travel with us and invite guests as long as they are registered on the access roster of both Rose Barracks and Main Post at least 72 hours prior to the trip. The majority of our trips include a walking city tour for a time varying from 1.5 to 2.5 hours, it is advised to wear comfortable shoes. Please ask for details before booking the trip. Let us know in advance if a member of your party has special needs. ODR staff members will be glad to assist in any way possible to make your experience wonderful and as smooth as possible. Our staff will be happy to answer your questions about trips and provide you with detailed itineraries. Please Note that Leisure Travel Services trip assistants are required to ask for your passport before boarding the bus, as per European law in case of police check. . CHIEMSEE CASTLE October 14

Tour yet another one of Ludwig’s fantastic castle. Situated on an island in the middle of the Chiemsee Lake this one is modeled after Versailles. This was the final Ludwig castles with only 20 of the 70 rooms completed. Ludwig only stayed in residence for a total of 10 days. The bus will take you to the port where you can opt for one of 3 tour packages with a price of ₏ 5-20 per person. POLAND** October 20

Boleslaweic, Poland is the heart of the pottery industry. The factories continue to hand stamp the patterns on each piece in the hundred- year- old tradition. Designs range from original ones inspired by the peacock to more modern patterns including Christmas themed sets. The pottery is made from white clay and many pieces are microwave- and dishwasher-safe. We will take you to different stores, to offer you a wide choice to start or complete a collection. BLACK FOREST October 27

Black Forest is a very unique place of Germany. This is the area where many of the cuckoo clocks are hand carved. We will visit the city of Triberg where you can visit the largest waterfall in Germany, museum of the area, and shop for the cuckoo or grandfather clock of your choice. You may also just want to roam around and absorb the beautiful country side. Remember to bring your VAT form. DACHAU & GERMAN NATIONAL MUSEUM IN MUNICH

A tour of the historic Dachau Concentration Camp memorial site. The main camp was comprised of the actual prisoners’ camp, the SS area as well as various subsidiary camps, such as the so-called plantation, the shooting range at Hebertshausen, and the burial grounds for concentration camp prisoners, now the Concentration Camp Memorial Cemetery Dachau-Leitenberg. Then go into the city to the German National Museum. It is the largest technological museum in the world. It offers a hands-on exploration of German science and technology. DRESDEN CHRISTMAS MARKET December 8

The traditional Christmas Market in Dresden with its romantic and festive charm is an inspiration in itself, a real treasure trove for real traditional handmade crafts. Every visitor here will find a “little something”: Christmas pyramids, smoking figures and candleholders from Erzgebirge Mountains and of course specialties from Dresden itself, such as the traditional ‘Pflaumentoffel’, a chimney-sweep figure made of dried prunes. REGENSBURG CHRISTMAS MARKETS December 16

There are three Christmas markets in Regensburg with the most romantic one of the Christmas markets - the Thurn and Taxis. The family Thurn und Taxis was the Emperor’s representative in the area you will see. The Christmas market has a variety of food stalls and outside fire pits where you can keep warm in the winter. There is of course Christmas music in the market grounds and if you want to tour the Thurn and Taxis Palace it will cost €5. There is also an admission price to the private Thurn and Taxis Christmas market of €3. The other Christmas markets in Regensburg are Craftsmen Lucrezia Christmas Market and the Advent Markt at Spitalgarten. CIRCUS KRONE, MUNICH January 26, March 23

Circus Krone is the largest circus in Europe and the only circus with its own building. To give you an idea of how large this circus is: It employs 400 persons, cares for 250 animals, owns the world’s largest tent with a capacity of 5,000 people and has its own fire truck, school and kitchen staff. PLAYMOBIL PARK February 10

The Playmobil Fun Park, located close to Nuremberg, is a park where everything is made of Playmobils. Kids can play with ships in a water track, or be a farmer in the farm area, enter a pirate ship from the lake, or live like a king or queen in the castle. CHAMPAGNE, FRANCE** November 8-12

Reims, along with Épernay and Ay in France functions as one of the centers of champagne production. Many of the largest champagne-producing houses, known as les grandes marques, have their headquarters in Reims and are open for tasting and tours. Champagne ages in the many caves and tunnels under Reims, which form a sort of maze below the city. Carved from chalk, some of these passages date back to Roman times. Many people know Reims for its cathedral, Notre-Dame de Reims, the past place of coronation of the kings of France. VENICE CARNIVAL** February 15-19

St. Marks Square and the connecting Piazzetta Square are in the center of Venice carnival activities. Events take place beginning at 9 a.m. every morning. A variety of events take place throughout the city of Venice. St. Mark’s Square is the best place for people watching and picture taking. There are many things to do in Venice like take a Gondola boat ride, visit the glass making workshops on the island of Murano or visit the Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s church or the Basilica San Marco. Verona is a lovely city of Romeo and Juliet fame and has the second largest Roman ruins. Our trip includes: transportation, 3 nights hotel accommodation with breakfast, boat trip to the islands of Murano and Burano, and city tours of Venice and Verona. Berlin is a city rich in museums. To keep with the theme of this family trip we will visit the Berlin Zoo and the Berlin Aquarium, which should prove to be fun for the entire family. Other recommended sights to visit include the famous House on Checkpoint Charlie Museum, The Berlin Holocaust Memorial, Brandenburg Gate, the Museum Island and the Berlin Television Tower. USAG Grafenwoehr has two areas exclusively for U.S Hunters

Gun ownership in Germany is a privilege not a right and they have strict guidelines that must be followed to own, store and fire a weapon. One way is to pass an authorized course that Hunting, Fishing and Sports Shooting offers once a year. Course lasts approximately 10 weeks and meets all the requirements of German law.

The On Post Hunting permits for the on-post area are issued via lottery. In early

spring, interested hunters submit their application to vie for a permit, from these applications 10 names are drawn for permits that run from May 1 to January 31. To enter the lottery you must be in possession of a valid hunting license the day of the drawing, and assigned to the Grafenwoehr Military Community.

The Off Post Hunting Area (Egerstadtwald) is approximately 40 minutes from

Grafenwoehr. It is a weekend guided hunt for Roe Deer, Wild Boar, Red Deer, Sika Deer. The hunt is conducted by the HFS office and open to all U.S personal with a valid hunting license. It consists most of the time of three evening hunts and three morning hunts. On holidays we hunt Friday night through Monday morning.

We help you in finding hunting opportunities in the local area with state authorities and private hunters. Our office assists with the submission for registering firearms and contact information for purchase firearms from private sellers. HUNTING CLASS

Starts November 6

Cost $175 per person Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Bldg. 2440. On Saturdays there will be field trips to ranges. This class will enable you to obtain your German Hunting License and is usually held once a year.

Dresden’s Christmas Market is traditionally called Striezelmarkt and is Germany’s oldest Christmas Market with a very long history dating back to 1434. Its name derives from Hefestriezel, a sweet delicacy which centuries later has become known as “Dresdner Christstollen” (German Christmas Cake). The Dresden Christmas Market is located in the historical part of the city centre between the recently rebuilt Frauenkirche and the culinary famous restaurant street of Münzgasse.
