SUMMER READING FUN FOR ALL AGES

Excitement and fun are in store for those who take part in the Garmisch Library Summer Reading Program. During the months of June and July, the library will host a variety of free activities for children of all ages to encourage and support a love of reading. Required registration begins at the library on Tuesday, June 13.

‘READ BY DESIGN’ Grades K-5

Wednesdays, 10 a.m. June 21 & 28, July 5 & 12 Summer Reading Program for children entering grades K-5 is designed to inspire readers to aim for peak performance and avoid “summer slide,” or diminished reading skills. We’ll have plenty of fun activities, crafts and storytimes wrapped around rocket ships, inventions & robots. The program is simple: you read books and earn prizes! Children grades 5 and below must be accompanied by a caregiver.

‘READ-TO-ME’ Pre-School Storytime

‘TEEN READ’ Grades 6 and up

Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. June 22 & 29, July 6 & 13 Read-to-Me is for pre-readers ages 5 and under featuring four weekly read aloud storytimes. Children keep track of the time a parent, friend or older sibling reads to them. Get the whole family involved and read together this summer.

Wednesdays, 10 a.m. June 21 & 28, July 5 & 12 Teen Read is a self-driven reading event. Join like-minded teens at the library weekly for inspiration or read alone. Vote at registration for a movie viewing finale. Keep track of all the time you read and you might just win a prize to boot!

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

Tuesday, July 25, 7 p.m. Hag-seed by Margaret Atwood is William Shakespeare’s The Tempest retold as a prison drama. Felix, living on the outskirts, is a defunct director stewing in his resentment over the loss of his beloved Shakespeare Festival & his daughter, Miranda. Twelve years later, a prison theatre course avails itself. Will it bring retribution and a second chance? Books available at the library.

There are three saunas, a steam bath, Jacuzzis, warm pools, cold pools, diving pools, an Olympic pool, salt pools, salt treatments, eating and drinking areas, a bar, numerous lounging areas, a “textile free area” and just about everything you might want to experience during the most relaxing day of your life.
