MAY IS ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
“Bringing Communities Together: the Transcontinental Railroad” In 1978, the month of May was officially chosen to commemorate the achievements of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. The American Transcontinental Railroad was completed on May 10, 1869, of which the majority of workers who laid the tracks were Chinese. Join us at the library in honoring the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched our history throughout the centuries. Our display will focus on the Transcontinental Railroad and the race to link the nation. In addition, we’ll feature books, films and audio materials on Asian culture, religion, historical personalities, cooking and more.
BIKE BINGO! IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BIKE! It’s National Bike Month. Whether you ride for business or pleasure, to save money or gas, to preserve your health or the environment or just to feel the wind on your face, come to the library and checkout this month’s display of books and films all about bikes. Pick up a Bike Bingo card; each square contains a cycling challenge. Complete the card by the end of May and bring it to the library to collect your reward.

Visit the library or website for more information on the 100th anniversary of WWI.
BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
MAY 23, 7 P.M. Dead Wake: the last crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson, is the riveting narrative nonfiction account of the sinking of the luxury ocean liner the Lusitania during WWI in May 1915. The story alternates between British and German military and civilian perspective, switching between the hunter and the hunted. This is a story everyone has heard about, but wait until you read all the fascinating details.
