SEASON’S READINGS FROM THE LIBRARY

ALL DECEMBER Stop by the library and check out the display of terrific books to help you plan your holidays. We have books on baking, cooking, decorating, entertaining, crafting and hundreds of other activities for the long winter days ahead. Peruse our classic holiday movies on DVD and Blu-Ray; find audio books to enjoy a story while driving or exercising; and browse through hundreds of video games, to keep you and the kids entertained for hours. Ask how you can get thousands of free downloadable Kindle and eBooks, eAudiobooks, music and movies from the library’s digital resources.

ELF ON THE SHELF BINGO: “CHESTER” RETURNS!

DECEMBER 1-23 Chester had such a fun time at the library last year, he begged to return. We expect him to arrive December 1. The only problem is, he loves to hide, and we never know where he’ll be! He’s given us some hints though, and he’s ready to play the game of hide-and-seek in the library every day until December 23. (Psst…his magical powers allow him to fly back and forth to the North Pole each night). Play the game of Elf-on-the-Shelf BINGO, and see how many times you can spot Chester. Sign up at the library anytime in December. All ages welcome.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

JANUARY 23, 7 P.M. “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” tells the story of the “godmother of virology,” or the woman whose genes have benefitted practically anyone who’s ever taken a pill stronger than aspirin. Cancer cells on Henrietta Lacks cervix took on a life of their own at a Johns Hopkins lab and were later dubbed “HeLa” cells. In this biography, Rebecca Skloot introduces the real-life woman behind one of the most important medical discoveries in the last 100 years.

PRESCHOOL & TODDLER STORYTIMES

DECEMBER HOLIDAY BREAK Join us in the New Year at 10:30 a.m. beginning January 25, for stories, songs and crafts. It’s never too early to introduce your child to the wonders of reading!
