Tuesdays with Family and MWR spoke with Christine at Army Community Service (ACS) about the importance of Car Seat Safety! How does the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) help newcomers to military life? What about people who have been military Family members for years? We offer Stress and Anger Management classes to help those garner tools with all of the constant changes that happen within the military lifestyle. This is for those new to the military and those that have been part of the system for years. We often need reminders on how to take care of ourselves before taking care of others and our classes are geared towards that end. How are car seat regulations different in Germany than in the States? Germany's laws are more lenient than the US. We recommend all to follow US recommendations, for the crash testing data's results are what pushed for these laws. How does the proper or improper car seat affect a child's safety? Using the car seat correctly is important because incorrect use correlates to a child being 3 1/2 times more likely to be seriously injured during a crash. What is a common mistake parents make with car seats? Anywhere from 72% to 84% of child restraints show critical misuses. The most common forms of misuse are using the wrong seat for the child's age and weight, loose safety belt attachments to the car seat and loose harness straps on the child. This is scary because another statistic says 96% of parents believe their child safety seats are installed correctly. Meanwhile these misuses increase a child's risk of injury during a crash. Contact ACS today to sign up for the Car Seat Safety Class Tuesday, January 10 at 10 a.m.!

OUR LIBRARIES WILL HAVE A SPECIAL DISPLAY DURING THE MONTH OF JANUARY TO CELEBRATE MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (officially Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.) is an American Federal Holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around the time of King's birthday, January 15. King was the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.
