Discover the 3 BOSS PILLARS Quality Life
The USAG Grafenwoehr BOSS program takes the quality life of all single soldiers, geographical bachelors, and single soldiers’ parents very serious. We find out what is going right as well as wrong in our garrison and work with the command teams or the service to receive quality or maintain.
Community Service
The USAG Grafenwoehr BOSS program uses this pillar to give back to the community. We have many soldiers who coach for CYSS sports, mentor at schools, volunteer their off time as School Age Services (SAS), thrift store, USO, etc. We continue to help all that need our supports even if it is just reading a book to a child or helping fold clothing it all matters to us here.
Recreation and Leisure
The USAG Grafenwoehr BOSS program uses this pillar to unwind from a long week of work. We travel different places around Europe and Germany. Each adventure is more exciting than the next. We have found ourselves on mountains in Switzerland or zip lining in Mitterfels; if there is an adventure you will have boss there. We promote cohesion between each unit on these trips. You may have a soldier from 172nd who had a great friend in 2cr. We do not separate based on MOS or rank you can have an E5 working with an E4 to better themselves or help with career progression. We do not discourage advancement we promote it. 14

Discover Bavaria
Treetop Wonder Story and photos by Bob King Contributing Writer
NEUSCHOENAU, Germany - The first hint that something extraordinary awaits explorers in the woods beyond the village of Neuschoenau is a glimpse of an otherworldly dome peaking above the tree line. The giant wooden structure remains hidden, summoning the traveler to drive further into the undulating hills of giant spruce and fir trees. Soon, though, the car is parked and the answer to the mystery lies at the end of a narrow walking path, set dizzyingly high above the forest floor. While the vast Bavarian Forest National Park (Bayerischer Wald) has many natural wonders worth visiting, the manmade Baumwipfelpfad – literally, a “treetop walk” – may be the most intriguing marvel in the whole forest. The Baumwipfelpfad begins with a short elevator ride or stair climb to the ticket booth, a mere 26 feet above the parking lot. As hikers begin the leisurely walk down a 4,300-foot long wood path, the ground begins to gently fall away – or so it appears – as the path inclines almost imperceptibly, making it easily accessible for parents with strollers. It is obvious the creators of the Baumwipfelpfad wanted to make visitors feel a part of the natural environment. The path advances freely through the forest, leaving the mature pines forever undisturbed. Like many forest trails, this one has a destination – the strange dome that first beckoned visitors into the woods. Before that, though, the treetop walk has a few surprises of its own. Several adventure stations briefly divert from the main path. Short, heart-quickening obstacles lie on each miniroute, including a narrow wooden plank enticing hardy trekkers to balance on the beam. You need not worry as the “obstacle” is fully-enclosed with a safety net and offers a rewarding view of the earth 50 feet below. Interspersed with the daredevil treats are information stations, each describing the unique flora and fauna elements of the Bavarian Forest. The descriptions are in German, but free English translation brochures are available at the ticket booth. The entire experience of walking through the stark tranquility of the treetops builds anticipation for the main event. A sharp left turn of the path, now towering 85 feet high, brings the dome into full view. It looks startlingly out of place, like a giant egg-shaped space vehicle anchored to the path, awaiting liftoff. The steel and wood tower rises 144 feet, completely enclosing three ancient fir trees in its hollow shell. 16
MWRLINK
The path continues in gently meandering circles, up and around the structure. Open-air views of the forest and picturesque valleys appear on the right; on the left, a lofty view of the trees normally reserved for birds and other small animals. The crown of the Baumwipfelpfad is a 360-degree deck that affords an outstanding prospect of the Bavarian Forest’s greatest landmarks, including Mounts Lusen and Rachel, as well as the far-flung woods spread out below. The Baumwipfelpfad is arguably an enjoyable enough attraction to make the journey to the Bavarian Forest, however, there are other things to see. A brief walk uncovers the Wildlife Enclosure, housing 36 native woodland species including lynxes, wolves and owls. The intrepid hiker will enjoy hundreds of miles of crisscrossing trails through the nearly 60,000 acres of wild national forest. Finally, forest play areas, campgrounds and idyllic Bavarian villages dot the landscape throughout this beautiful region.
If you go: The Baumwipfelpfad is open year-round (except for Dec. 24). The entrance fee for adults is 8 Euros, 6 Euros for children 6-17 years of age, and a family ticket (two adults and their children) is 19 Euros. Located east of Regensburg, the Baumwipfelpfad is easily accessible by both car and train. Additionally, there is an extensive and easy-to-use bus and railway system inside the park. For more information, visit www. baumwipfelpfad.by or www.nationalparkbayerischer-wald.de.

Discover Bavaria
There is an amazing castle located only 3 hours from Grafenwoehr separated by the river Salzach from Austria. The Burghausen Castle, with almost all of its medieval fortifications still intact, extends over a length of 1051 meters and is one of the largest castle complexes in the world. From 1255 on, it was the second residence of the dukes of Lower Bavarian and the court of their consorts. In the late Middle Ages, Duke Georg der Reiche (George the Rich) turned the castle into the strongest fortress in the county. It consists of six separate courtyards, which were secured by gates, moats and drawbridges. These had to be overcome in order to get into the inner courtyard and the principal castle ward. Due to its elevated geographical position on a mountain ridge it had major strategic importance. Nowadays the castle gives the town its name and is the eminent landmark of the town - a kind of “town crown and majestic fortress all in one”. Europe’s longest castle invites visitors to stroll through the middle ages. Every year the castle festival and other historic events offer the opportunity to bring the middle ages back to life. This year’s highlight is the temporary state exhibition describing the BavarianAustrian relationship; Verbündet, Verfeindet, Verschwägert (Allied, Be at Enmity, Related by Marriage). Burghausen and two Austrian towns have joined to present a 1000 year of tense relationship from the early Middle Ages to the end of the Roman Empire of German Nation. Did you know? Twitter is a real-time information network which connects individuals to whatever they find interesting in a fast and easy way. At the heart of Twitter are small bits of text, containing endless amounts of information called “Tweets” using 140 characters or less. “Rapidly growing” is an understatement when describing this social networking service. Five years ago, Twitter was only a developing idea formed by three people and was launched publicly on July 15, 2006. Fast forward
Twitter hosts approximately one billion tweets every 5 days. The most popular events on Twitter generate (literally) thousands of tweets every second. Just to prove it, we found the top 5 most active twitter moments, measured in tweets per second: 1. Women’s World Cup Final – 7,196 TPS 2. New Year’s Eve 2010 in Japan – 6,939 TPS 3. Japanese Tsunami and Earthquake – 5,530 TPS 4. Osama Bin Laden’s Death – 5,106 TPS 5. Super Bowl 2011 – 4,064 TPS Businesses connect to customers by sharing information in the form of links, photos, videos or quick updates regarding their products and services. They also gain market intelligence and real-time feedback using Twitter. People all over the world are using twitter to share their stories of causes, and actions taken to make the world a better place.
Twitter can be experienced on any mobile device by using free Twitter apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry and Windows 7.
to 2012, twitter has fewer than 500 employees and is one of the biggest hot spots for information on the internet, quickly catching up to Facebook. Statistics show that Twitter now has around half a billion registered profiles, with over 100 million in the USA alone. Twitter.com receives 400 million visitors a month and is up 60% this year.
Celebrities are tweeting, band groupies are becoming best friends over Twitter because of their mutual love of the band, and some are receiving actual follow requests and a little interaction from the band members themselves!
