HIKE IN THE FRANKENJURA

October 7, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Celebrate the change of seasons on a hike through the exhilarating autumn landscape of the Frankenjura. Take in the crisp air and enjoy the calm of the natural landscape as Hohenfels Outdoor Recreation guides this moderately difficult hike. Please wear appropriate clothing, footwear, and pack a lunch and hydrating liquids. Don’t forget a camera! Price: $35/person

TEXAS HOLD ‘EM TOURNAMENT

October 13, 6 p.m., The Zone, B150 Texas Hold ‘em is one of the most popular variants of poker and has fascinated players for years. October 21-22, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Visit beautiful Stubai, Austria’s largest glacier skiing area, for an early season introduction to a life-long love affair with skiing or snowboarding. FRANKENSTEIN CASTLE

October 28, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Welcome to the biggest Halloween party in Germany! The event takes place annually in the ruins of the Frankenstein castle with more than 70 monsters waiting to scare and spook. Party throughout the castle grounds with stage shows, refreshments and food. Don’t forget to wear a costume! Includes entry ticket. Price: $89/person ages 14 and up

CYS “ALL STAR” PROGRAM

Our staff work very hard to make sure that Children are well cared for and have every opportunity to grow and develop. The ‘All Star’ program is set up to show staff how much we appreciate them and recognize their tireless efforts of caring for our Children and Youth. Please help us by writing ‘star notes’ for excellence that you see. Each facility has a special location for the ‘All Star’ cards to be posted. At the end of each month, the cards will be collected and an award will be given for the caregiver who has the most ‘Star Cards’.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is recognized every October. The goal is to raise awareness of the warning signs of relationship abuse and help individuals and couples address problems early. Let Army Community Service (ACS) be your partner in preventing and reducing the risk of domestic abuse and join us preventing domestic violence.

STRESS MANAGEMENT October 3, 10-11 a.m., B10 Feeling pressured? Too many changes in your life coming at you too fast? Learn about the different kinds of stress and how problematic stress an affect your mental and physical health. Identify your warning signs and the sources of your stress then learn how to better manage stress by, among other things, learning to let go.

BABY BOOT CAMP October 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., B10A If you think about it, the reason for Boot Camp, really the reason for any kind of training is to get ready for the ‘main’ event. This 7-part rotating program answers questions most books and programs don’t. Geared for parents-to-be, this workshop covers topics such as birth certificate process in Germany, breast feeding, personal expectations, bringing baby home and much more.

BASIC STEP PROGRAM October 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31, 1 p.m., Library, B49 BASIC STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) is a research-based parenting class for the parents of school-aged children (between ages 6-12). STEP encourages mutual respect between parent and child, increased cooperation, more effective communication and a more responsible, self-reliant attitude among children. In seven sessions, learn how to understand your child’s behavior, how to listen and talk to your child, discipline that makes sense and more.

FRG LEADERSHIP TRAINING October 12, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., B10 Define the mission and role of the Family Readiness Group (FRG) within the Family Readiness system, as well as the responsibilities of all team leaders. Specify the focus of FRG support (what, when, how, etc.), in addition to identifying regulations, policies and instructional guidance on FRG operations.

FINANCIALLY FIT October 13 & 27, 9 a.m. - noon, B10 A hands-on interactive class that teaches the importance of goal setting, finding out your net worth (shows how much you owe compared to what you own), budget setting techniques, a reality check (do I really spend what I think I spend?), setting up a spending plan to follow your budget and debt reduction strategies.

ANGER MANAGEMENT October 17, 10-11 a.m., B10 Anger is a natural emotional reaction. It’s neither good nor bad. Anger that is not managed well, however, can cause many problems from health issues to problems getting along with others including your husband or wife. Is your anger hurting you? Understand that there are at least ten styles of expressing anger. Learn which one is yours and how you personally deal with conflict. Learning more effective ways of dealing with conflict may just help you live a happier and more peaceful life.

HALLO HOHENFELS NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION October 17-20, B10 This is the place to be if you’re new to the community. In addition to learning some German language, you will explore local communities (including a bakery and butcher shop), discover a huge home decorating store and spend the final day site seeing in Regensburg. Find out how your new community works without doing everything yourself and make some new friends at the same time. Special DOUBLE bonus: a visit to the epicenter of the rotations: the “Star Wars” building and a visit to the training area, a “Box Tour.”

INDOOR CLIMBING Tuesdays No experience is required to have a go at this sport. On alternating Tuesdays, “boulder” and “top rope” at the local gyms of Nuremburg and Regensburg. Join the greater outdoor recreation community and learn why climbing is one of the best social exercises for all ages.

KIDS KONNECTION Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9-11 a.m., B321 This twice weekly ACS playgroup offers a fun and diverse format featuring music time, free play and special activity stations. Redefined for ages 6 weeks to 4 years, this program offers flexibility and opportunity to meet new people who are raising young children in our community.
