Faith Landing’s February Newsletter Smoke Alarms Smoke alarms are proven to save lives by providing an early warning in the event of a fire. In your apartment home you are provided with multiple smoke alarms. Having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of injury or death in a reported fire. Almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no working smoke alarms. That is why here at Faith Landing we feel it is so important that your smoke alarms are working properly at all times. We need your help in making sure that your smoke alarms are working:  Test your smoke alarms every month. This is done by pushing the round button on it that says test. When you test it, it will make the noise.  If your smoke alarms start chirping call the office. Our maintenance staff will come and change the batteries and make sure that they are connected correctly.  Create a plan with your family about what to do in the event of a fire or emergency. o How will you all exit. o Where will your meeting point be? We can thank a Swiss physicist in the late 1930’s for creating the smoke detector. Walter Jaeger’s was working on a sensor for detecting poisonous gas but his device failed to register small amounts of gas. Frustrated, he lit a cigarette and the smoke moved the meter on his gadget. Jaeger’s experiment helped pave the way for today’s smoke detector.
