Spring time means the beginning of the gardening season. I know living in an apartment means you don’t have the space to have a full garden. Here is a simple DIY pallet garden to show off your handy work and green thumb in the limited space! What you need: Clean Pallet – in new or as good condition as possible (heat-treated rather than chemical) Sandpaper for any rough edges if needed + a pair of gloves. Hammer and nails. 2-3 extra timber palings from another pallet for shelves (cut to size if needed). Drill (optional and easier for pre-drilling holes if you have one but you can use the hammer instead) and screws if you choose to use the drill. Non-toxic paint in your choice of color or stain and a medium sized paint brush. Check the width of your potential planter boxes on each tier of the pallet – they should be close to 4 inches. Add a timber paling as a shelf for each planter box by securing it to the underside of the interior supports of the pallet when it is standing vertical. I just used a hammer and nails for this but you could use a drill and screws as well. Measure the timber so it is the same length as the pallet, but not as wide so there is a gap along the edge for water to drain. Allow a gap for drainage – You can also drill additional drainage holes in the timber planter box base if you wish. Prepare the timber – if there are rough edges you may want to grab the gloves and use sandpaper to smooth these off and prevent splinters. Next, your pallet is ready for painting or staining depending on your personal taste and budget. Once paint is dry you are ready for the fun part – adding your pots, plants and decorative items.

It can be a guessing game each time hard boiled eggs are made as to whether they will peel easily or be cooked enough. There are many methods to “hard boiling” eggs, but this trick is one that will save you the guess work and cook the eggs perfectly each time. This is also a great way to hard boil lots of eggs at once without having to boil anything. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Take a muffin tin (regular or mini size) and fill with as many eggs as you want. Bake the eggs in the muffin tin for 30 minutes. Remove the tin from the oven and immediately use tongs to put the eggs into a large bowl filled with ice water. Let the eggs cool in the ice water for about 10 minutes. If all the ice melts prior to the 10 minutes, add more. Remove the eggs and dry them off. Peel, eat, dye them or refrigerate – It’s your choice.

Gramercy Villas’ April Newsletter New Lease In February we started using a new updated lease for all move ins and lease renewals here at Gramercy Villas. The additions and changes made to the lease are for our resident’s health and safety along with helping with the management of the property. Following are just a few of the items that were changed or added: 1.
APPLICATION OF FUNDS – This clause has been added regarding how the funds will be applied to your account. “At Landlord’s option and without notice to Resident, any money that is received can be applied first to non-rent obligations, regardless of whether or not Resident has made notations on checks or money orders and regardless of when the obligations came about.” 2. QUIET HOURS - The lease now specifically states that “QUIET HOURS COMMENCE AT 10PM UNTIL 8AM. Resident, guests or other persons under Residents control shall not play upon or allow to be played any musical instrument, or operate any amplified sound system on the PREMISES between the hours of 10pm and 8am. No offensive or loud noise, voices, language or behavior is allowed.” 3. SMOKING - We addressed our desire to provide housing that is environmentally friendly and healthy to our valued Resident(s). We have now added: “Owner has a Policy which mandates no smoking inside the apartment or in any common area (i.e. entry ways; stairwells).” We ask that you let your guest know that smoking is not allowed in the entry way or at the front door of your apartment. 4. An addendum has been added to the lease: LEASE ADDENDUM FOR CRIME-FREE/DRUG-FREE HOUSING. It is our goal to have a safe community for all of our residents to reside. Illegal activity will not be tolerated on the property and when management has evidence of any violation of this addendum a “Three Day Notice of Lease Termination” will be served on the household.
We feel that updating the lease and making these changes and additions will assist us in providing all of our residents with a safe and happy living environment.
Getting It Cleaned Up! Candles are an inexpensive way to not only decorate a table, but also to set a cozy mood. There’s nothing that can ruin that good mood more quickly than seeing that candle wax spilled on your tablecloth, clothing, or carpet. But there’s good news. The solution is simple and won’t cost you a cent. 1. Set your clothes iron on dry heat medium (no steam). 2. Spread two layers of paper towels on top of the spilled candle wax and surrounding area. The towels on the surrounding area will prevent the iron from scorching the material or carpeting. 3. Place the iron on top of the paper towel and press in a circular motion. Check the towels for wax absorption. 4. Replace the paper towels as needed so the wax can absorb into a clean spot on the paper towel. 5. Continue to replace the paper towels until all of the wax has lifted. If the candle wax doesn’t lift, you can increase the temperature on the iron. Be sure to cover all areas the iron will touch with paper towels (or even a thin cloth) to avoid scorching.
Parking Lot Reminder Please be sure to drive slowly in and around the property. Additionally, the spots marked with a “V” are for visitors only! If you are in need of another covered, assigned parking spot please check with the leasing office.
