Simple Scones Whether for Mother’s Day brunch or for tea time, these scones are a great addition to the table. Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/3 cup sugar 1 tsp. baking powder ¼ tsp. baking soda ½ tsp. salt 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, frozen ¼ - ½ cup dried blueberries ½ cup sour cream 1 large egg Directions: Making sure the oven rack is in the middle position, preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a medium bowl, mix flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Grate the butter into the flour mixture with a cheese grater. Use your hands to work the butter in until it resembles coarse meal. Gently mix in blueberries. In a small bowl, whisk sour cream and egg until smooth. Using a fork, stir the sour cream mixture into the flour mixture until large dough clumps form. Use your hands to press the dough into a ball. The dough may be sticky and it may seem like there isn’t enough liquid at first, but as you continue to work the dough, it will come together. Place on a lightly floured surface and pat into a 7-8 inch circle about ¾ inches thick. Sprinkle top with 1 tsp. of sugar. Use a sharp blade to cut into 8 triangles. Place on a cookie sheet about one inch apart. Bake until golden, about 15 – 17 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes and serve warm or at room temperature.

A NEW FACE You may have noticed we have a great new employee on staff here at Gramercy Villas. His name is Matt Brown and he is our new porter. As you see him around the property, be sure to introduce yourself and say hello! He’ll be working hard to help Gramercy Villas look its best. We are thankful to have this hardworking addition to the staff.
HARD WATER SHOWERHEAD BUILDUP If the waterfrom your apartment’s showerhead is spraying out in all directions, it's probably time to give it a deep clean. Hard water causes the white build-up on the shower head that eventually can lead to problems with some of the holes clogging up. Mix a solution of equal parts vinegar and water, then pour it into a plastic bag. Submerse the showerhead in the vinegar solution fastening off the baggie with a twist tie or piece of string. Let the solution sit for 15 to 20 minutes, then remove and scrub the holes with an old toothbrush. Rinse well and you’re ready to shower! .

SPRING-TIME GROUNDS MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS This month you will notice a lot of work being done on our property. We will be adding decorative rock to the landscaping beds, re-seeding some grass areas, power-washing walkways and entryways, and sealcoating and repainting the parking lot striping. All of this work is being done to ensure that Gramercy Villas remains a top-notch property. We request and appreciate your patience as these tasks are being completed. There are a couple of requests that we have of our residents regarding these updates: Please keep off of the areas of the grass that have been staked off and re-seeded. Please do not allow pets to go on these areas. Please do not remove the stakes or the caution tape. Please leave the rock in the landscaping beds. If you see anyone throwing the rock out of the beds, please be sure to let the leasing office know. When the rocks get in the grass areas, it causes problems for our landscaping crew and takes valuable time away from our porter and maintenance staff who have to go pull it out of the lawn. More information will be posted regarding parking once we receive additional direction from the company which is contracted to do the sealcoat and striping for the parking areas, so be sure to read messages posted to your doors. Contact the leasing office if you are interested in having your patio or balcony power-washed. We will be unable to power-wash any patios or balconies if the resident doesn’t schedule this with the leasing office ahead of time. We look forwarding to having Gramercy Villas looking its best this spring!
GRILL SEASON REMINDERS Time to light up the barbeques and get grilling! It’s definitely the season when more people will be cooking outdoors on their grills. Just a few reminders to our residents, so that our apartment complex is as safe as possible: Only gas grills are permitted – charcoal grills, standing fire pits and turkey fryers are prohibited Grills should be placed well away from the patio or balcony door and close to the railing. Never leave a grill unattended. Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it. Make certain that the grill is level and stable. Use insulated, flame retardant mitts, barbeque tongs, and utensils when grilling. Propane tanks are never to be stored outdoors near a grill. Only tanks attached to grills are permitted. Turn off the fuel supply to the grill first and then the burners when grilling is done. Check the grill regularly for signs of wear and tear, especially hose cracks and leaks. KNOW WHERE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ARE LOCATED IN THE STAIRWELL AND KNOW HOW TO USE IT PROPERLY. Be safe this season and enjoy the benefits of outdoor cooking!
