Now that the summer months are here, it’s a great time to take off and enjoy some well-deserved rest in the sunshine. Unfortunately, it’s this time of year that is notorious for home break in’s, since burglars know this is the season that many will be leaving their home unattended for a time. While we pride ourselves on Gramercy Villas being a safe property, there are several things you can do to ensure your apartment and its contents are safe while you are gone:  Stop or place a hold on regularly scheduled deliveries, newspapers, and mail. Packages sitting outside your door for days are a sure sign that no one’s been home.  Leave blinds (and curtains if you have them) as you normally have them. If you normally leave them open during the day, having your blinds closed for a week or two can be an indicator to someone who might be watching that you aren’t there.  Invest in timers for lights. Have the timers set so that a light or two goes on at different times of the evening, which can give the appearance that someone is home.  Consider having a friend or relative stop by the apartment a few times to water plants and remove any flyers or papers that may be at the door. This too shows that the apartment is not continually empty and vulnerable.  Lock all doors and close all windows. Leaving a window cracked for air circulation is not a good idea. It can make entry to an apartment too easy to resist for someone looking for a place to enter.  If you haven’t ever documented the contents of your home, it may be a good time to do so. Walking through the apartment with a video camera is the easiest way, opening drawers, closets, and cupboards as you go. This is especially helpful for insurance claims.  Let the leasing office know that you’ll be gone from the property for an extended time. This way we know to questions anyone we don’t recognize coming or going from your apartment.  Don’t announce on social media that you’re leaving town. Be aware of where you are and who you discuss your travel plans and dates around. You never know who will see your posts or hear that you’ll be gone and take advantage of that knowledge. If you ever see any suspicious activity on the property, please contact the leasing office immediately. If the office is closed, please don’t hesitate to contact the Meridian Police Department. Together we can continue to keep our apartment community a safe, secure place to live! BEAT THE HEAT – GO BOWLING!

Looking for something to keep the children busy this summer? Check out KIDSBOWLFREE.COM. This is a safe, fun thing for children ages 18 and under to do and it’s inexpensive. Each child receives emailed bowling passes for each week of the summer. The only cost is for the rental of the bowling shoes. Pinz, Big Al’s and Meridian Lanes all participate in this program. Go online today to register.

Bicycle Check Do you have a bicycle on the property? Please be sure and stop by the leasing office to get a bike tag, so we can identify the bike’s owner! We have some bikes that have been left unmoved for a while and we want to be certain the owners still reside on the property.

THE CURE FOR A STINKY KITCHEN SINK DRAIN Ever smelled something funky in the kitchen but not sure what the source of the odor is? Well it could be your sink drain. Debris and grease can lodge in there, leading to a stinky drain. The following is a cure: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Start with a clean, empty sink. Boil about 2 quarts of water. Once boiled, flush the drain by pouring the hot water down the drain all at once. (Please be careful. Do not dump the hot water in a way that it will splash and burn you.) This will melt and soften any grease that’s trapped. Add 1 cup of baking soda to the drain. Then pour 3 cups of white vinegar down the drain over the baking soda. Let sit 5-10 minutes. While that’s sitting, boil another 2 quarts of water. Flush with the boiling water (again, be careful!). Rinse any leftover baking soda down with the hot water. To finish, flush with cold water from the sink for 1-2 minutes
