The Storage Bonus One of the benefits of apartment living is that you don’t have as much storage as you would in a single family dwelling. Now you might ask how that is a benefit. Well, simply said, knowing that you won’t have as much storage will help you to be more conscientious when you go to acquire new items. When you go to purchase the item, you will want to visually decide where and if it will fit. It may even keep you from purchasing items that are not really necessities or real desires. This will allow you showcase the items you really love and avoid making your space cluttered. With this in mind, making the most of the space you do have is essential. Some ideas for additional storage in your apartment: 1. Use the shoe racks on the back of all of the doors in your apartment. These are not good just for holding shoes, but also cleaning supplies, office supplies, and additional pantry items. On the back of cabinet doors you can use “over the door racks (shown below) to store items, as well. 2. Use all of the cabinet space. Be sure to stack items whenever possible taking advantage of taller cabinets. Two tiered lazy-susan’s also help to make the most of the space. 3. Use counter top space to your advantage. By adding, tiered organizers (as shown below) you are able to maximize areas of the countertop you don’t use for food prep. or countertop appliances. These are also great to use in the bathroom areas. 4. Look for stand-alone storage units (see below) which are easy to assemble, and often times can provide additional space on top as well.
