Cherry season has arrived. If you’re fortunate enough to score some local, ripe cherries, here’s a recipe that’s easy to make and delicious to serve with some vanilla ice cream. Cherry Almond Crisp Serves 6
Ingredients: 1-1/2 lbs cherries, pitted and halved 1 Tablespoon sugar 2 teaspoons flour 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
For the crisp:
1/2 cup old fashioned oats 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup flour 1/4 cup cold butter, cut into cubes 1/4 cup chopped almonds 1/4 teaspoon almond extract Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine cherries, sugar, flour, vanilla, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Spray a 10.5×7″ or 8×8″ baking dish with non-stick spray then pour in the cherry mixture. In a separate bowl combine all the ingredients for the crisp. Smush with fingers until butter is well incorporated, then pour over cherry mixture. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until crisp is deeply golden brown.

Manager’s Corner I am so happy to let you know of a great new communication tool we have to offer our residents. It is called Nextdoor. Through it you can receive messages from the management staff here at Gramercy Villas but also you can communicate with your neighbors. Two years ago we had a little boy who got off of the bus but never made it home. Good news is he was found; miscommunication between parents and babysitter. What I think about now is this would have been a great tool at that time. The office could have posted a message to all of the residents through Nextdoor letting them know of the situation. Gramercy Villas will be using it to post what the next community activity is; information other community news. For you as a resident you will also be able to post - you can post items for sale; ideas on how to make the neighborhood better and concerns about safety and/or crime. Gramercy Garden Pots Next time you’re coming by the office, be sure to check up on our new garden pots. They were planted specifically for all of you – our valued residents. One pot is our “Salsa” pot with two types of tomatoes, cilantro, jalapenos and Serrano chilis. The second pot is the “Pasta” pot with two varieties of tomatoes, oregano, sweet basil, and purple basil. They are young plants, so we are taking care to water and feed them so that as they start to produce, you are able to come up and pick what you might need to add that special touch to your meal or salad. We look forward to your being able to take advantage of our new Gramercy Garden Pots.
