Arizona Masonry SUNDAY SCHOOL IN KINGMAN LODGE NO. 22 Kingman Lodge No. 22 holds "Sunday School" each week for fellowship and to study ritual. Worshipful Master John Hansen determined that sustenance was being neglected and ordered this be corrected. On January 27th, the Brethren gathered in the kitchen satisfy the order. Fare included sausage, eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy. The Master was pleased and so were the Brothers. It had been 40 years since the Lodge served breakfast. "...how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together..." Breakfast just makes it gooder. Grab your ritual book and come join us!
WIDOWS LUNCHEON AT ARIZONA LODGE NO. 2 Arizona Lodge No. 2 celebrated their annual Masonic Widow’s luncheon at the Phoenix Masonic Temple. The theme this year was the Roaring Twenties as the Lodge room was decorated like a 1920’s speakeasy and the menu was reminiscent of years gone by. It was a full house as the group danced to period music performed by a live band brought it for the event. This yearly event keeps our departed Brethren’s widow and reminds them that they are still on the forefront of our minds. It is an important tradition at Arizona Lodge No. 2 and one of the most looked forward events of the year.

GEORGE WASHINGTON MEMORIAL The George Washington Masonic National Memorial stands as the most distinguished monument to Washington ever build by a private organization –THE MASONS Erected in the 1920s and 30s, it soars 333 feet as a beacon of Light and knowledge, educating and inspiring all who visit it. Recognized in 2015 as a National Historic Landmark, the Memorial is one of the most impressive and iconic buildings in the area around our nation’s capital. Our new fundraising endeavor, The Landmark Century Campaign, aims to support a thorough restoration of the Memorial. And we can help! Today, the Memorial is a museum like no other in the world. Everything we do revolves around our vision: “to inspire humanity through education to emulate and promote the virtues, character and vision of George Washington, the Man, the Mason, and Father of our Country.” Open seven days a week, the Memorial offers detailed exhibits and guided tours that teach the general public about George Washington, his life and virtues, and the role that Freemasonry played throughout his life. Further, the Memorial is an important space for the performing arts, social gatherings, public events, and educational seminars. And, of course, it is an active Masonic temple, housing two Craft lodges and regularly hosting visiting lodges from around the country. The Memorial is a central hub connecting Masons to one another, and connecting the Craft to the public, our nation, and our world For the past decade, the Memorial Association has devoted tremendous energy and resources to the renovation of the Memorial. Major exhibits have been added. Interiors have been repaired and repainted. Lighting has been updated. But the most considerable work is the top-to-bottom restoration of the building itself—the first such renovation since the Memorial was completed nearly a century ago. Beginning at the Memorial’s pyramid level, we have begun a multi-year project to perform all needed structural repairs. Stone by stone, are repointing the mortar and protecting the building from water penetration. When completed, the building will be in
better than new condition.
Your generous help is essential in reaching that goal.
Masonic Trivia Leroy Middleton was born in Tucson in 1874 and spent his early years in the Tonto Basin and Globe. He drove a stage between Florence and Globe when he was 17. He gained fame through the area when he prevents a gold robbery by telling the two highwaymen that he had so many passengers that there was not room for the gold on the stagecoach. He later joined White Mountain Lodge No. 3 and served as Master in 1905, 1906, and 1907. He was elected Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons in Arizona in 1913
Before the opening of Grand Lodge on September 27, 1964, Very Worshipful Louis A. Myers, Grand Treasurer and Past Grand Master, representing the Scottish Rite Bodes of the Valley of Phoenix, presented Brother Delbert N. Martin, Worshipful Master of Red Rock Memorial Lodge U.D., a set of Deacons' and Stewards' Rods. Most Worshipful Brother Myers pointed out that inasmuch as several of the Scottish Rite members of the Valley of Phoenix were members of Red Rock Memorial Lodge, that the Phoenix Scottish Rite Bodies wished to assist the new lodge in this way. Brother Martin thanked the Scottish Rite bodies for a most acceptable gift and presented them to the Grand Deacons and Grand Stewards in order that they might be used in the Cornerstone Laying Ceremony. Red Rock Memorial Lodge No. 63 merged with Verde No. 14 in 2004, later Central Arizona Masonic Lodge 14 The very first Mountain in Arizona found worthy enough to receive a letter! After the devastating drubbing Arizona the wildcard underdog dealt to Pomona in the big Thanksgiving day game of 1914. Such a great monument it was people thought "time should never forget this! In 1916 Tucson was blessed with this huge proud beautiful "A" shining like justice under the bright southern Arizona sky! (2 years after in 1918 Tempe's hill got a big sad "N" for normal!) The mountain almost did not last if not for George Roskruge and Mose Drachman as in 1924, as much of "A" Mountain fell into the hands of private owners — although almost no Tucsonans knew it! A couple had filed a stone-and-timber claim — a cheap way to acquire land deemed unfit for farming on most of the Peak! The deal likely would never have been widely known but for a chance meeting between University of Arizona Professor G.E.P. Smith and a Mr. Murphy of the United States General Land Office. Within days of the meeting, at the San Carlos Hotel in Casa Grande, Smith had informed pioneer George J. Roskruge and word soon spread At the time, with Tucson facing the loss of one of its most important landmarks, many pioneers began to reminisce about its history and importance By July of 1926, and through the tireless work of Roskruge and Drachman both land claims had been voided by the Commissioner of the General Land Office with the final option to appeal to the Secretary of the Interior. The following February, the Secretary of the Interior upheld the decision and the two claims comprising 200 acres of Sentinel Peak and land around it were void forever, although it doesn't appear the city got the land until late 1928 George Roskruge was Master of Tucson Lodge No 4 F & A M and Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons in Arizona in 1889. Mose Drachman was the younger Brother of Harry Arizona Drachman (PGM 1912) and a Mason himself
