Arizona Masonry Letter from the Editor: This is not goodbye. By WB Bryon Howe I took on the position of Grand Editor not knowing what to expect, not really knowing what I was doing, and a bit naive as to the time commitment it would require. But I took full responsibility and ownership of the position and enjoyed watching other lodges I never visited send me for submission. Our country is facing a time of fear and uncertainty. COVID-19 has changed everything; we are all in new situations we were not prepared for, and it is not easy. I want to thank you for allowing me to do the best I could keeping everyone informed with what was going on around the state. As I prepare to hand over the pen and paper, I must look forward to my next Grand Lodge. Still helping Lodges, but in a different form. I am humbled and honored to serve my Fraternity in whatever fashion I can. I do not want to put out another goodbye letter, nor do I want to put out something that is just about me. This is not the time for that. Instead, I would like you to take what I have written as a message of hope and beginnings as opposed to goodbyes and endings. A lot of things are changing, ending, or closing. I hope we can all use this as an opportunity to move together, look forward and start a new chapter in my Masonic Story. MASONIC WAGES AND BLESSING FOR ALL 11 May 2021: Goodyear, Arizona: Illustrious Sir J.C. Reece, PP, and his wife, 1st Lady Veronica Ann, started a road trip on April 25th, for a couple of weeks to Reno, Nevada; for a “Celebration of Life” for one of Ill. Sir J.C.’s Shrine Counterparts. Whilst on their travels, they assisted the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America’s Sphinx Court #65, in Phoenix, Arizona; to deliver some much needed and appreciated donations to the Shrine children at the Sacramento location. This would be Lady Veronica Ann’s FIRST visit to a Shrine Hospital with her husband and it was a very special occasion for the both of them. This would be their first of at least FOUR of the Shriner Hospitals that they would visit this year on their travels. Ill. Sir J.C. and Lady Veronica Ann graciously accepted the challenge of delivering the donations from Sphinx Court #65, to which Lady Veronica Ann is a member, which were collected in 2020; just prior to COVID-19 restrictions and closings. From Lady Veronica Ann—First Stop, Shriners Hospital in Sacramento, CA: We were given a very brief and secure tour of the lobby of the hospital. Mr. Alan Anderson, the Director of Development for the hospital, was very gracious to answer our queries, show us around and give us some materials to take with us; including a “Wish List” that I will share with Lady Marsha, High Priestess of Sphinx Court #65 as well as any Masonic Appended Body that wishes to assist in these endeavours. This was the very first Shriners Hospital for Children that I have visited and we will be visiting FOUR MORE hospitals in total this year (if they allow visitors and donations due to COVID-19). I was so excited and feel so BLESSED to have had this opportunity to share with my Beloved Husband. J.C. and I are thankful for the opportunity to assist Sphinx Court #65 and serve our Shrine children. Alan and his assistants were very grateful for the items as we are sure our Shrine families and their children will be too! Respectfully Submitted and Fraternally Yours,

Brother J.C. & Sister Veronica Ann Reece

DeMolay Arizona DeMolay is launching two very exciting programs that began in July that involve recognizing Senior DeMolay by presenting service pins and beginning an Alumni Association. Along with recognizing past DeMolay, we are looking for our State Officers and State staff to visit Lodges to provide Senior DeMolay with their service pins recognizing those members who have served as DeMolay for 25, 50, and 75 years. Let me know if you have any questions. I am looking forward to actively partnering with you to feature DeMolay monthly in upcoming issues. Please feel free to contact me with any information, questions or concerns. Fraternally, Steve Johnston - State Chapter Advisor

MASONRY IN ACTION

FOR ALL MANKIND The purpose of the charity is to primarily assist those organizations throughout the State, engaged in relieving human suffering of any kind, which are dependent upon contributions from the public to accomplish their mission.

17

Brethren, Friends, and Family, This year the Masonic Charities of Arizona approved 20 grants totaling $36,000 to organizations throughout Arizona. These 501c3 charitable organizations provide much needed services to their communities. Those services include assistance to our Veterans at the three VA Hospitals in Arizona, Domestic abuse shelters, child learning disabilities, training and assistance for people with special needs, support for soldiers abroad, Adult literacy programs and Personal hygiene kits for the working poor and homeless. We are able to award these Grants from the income of our investment fund, Lodge and Personal donations and support from Grand Lodge. In order to keep up with the desire to expand our Grant distribution to more organizations and communities around the State we ask for your help. We have registered with the Amazon Smile Foundation. Amazon Smile will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization selected by their customers. For Amazon customers to select the Masonic Charities of Arizona to receive these donations go to http:// smile.amazon.com/ch/94-2746389 to automatically select us. Or you can go to www.smile.amazon.com and you will be prompted to select a charity. Now you are ready to shop and support the Masonic Charities of Arizona. The Board of Directors of the Masonic Charities of Arizona extends our appreciation to all of you for your support. stands as the most distinguished monument to Washington ever built by a private organization –THE FREEMASONS Erected in the 1920s and 30s, it soars 333 feet as a beacon of Light and knowledge, educating and inspiring all who visit it. Recognized in 2015 as a National Historic Landmark, the Memorial is one of the most impressive and iconic buildings in the area around our nation’s capital. Our new fundraising endeavor, The Landmark Century Campaign, aims to support a thorough restoration of the Memorial. And we can help! Today, the Memorial is a museum like no other in the world. Everything we do revolves around our vision: “to inspire humanity through education to emulate and promote the virtues, character and vision of George Washington, the Man, the Mason, and Father of our Country.” Open seven days a week, the Memorial offers detailed exhibits and guided tours that teach the general public about George Washington, his life and virtues, and the role that Freemasonry played throughout his life. Further, the Memorial is an important space for the performing arts, social gatherings, public events, and educational seminars. And, of course, it is an active Masonic temple, housing two Craft lodges and regularly hosting visiting lodges from around the country. The Memorial is a central hub connecting Masons to one another, and connecting the Craft to the public, our nation, and our world.

For the past decade, the Memorial Association has devoted tremendous energy and resources to the renovation of the Memorial. Major exhibits have been added. Interiors have been repaired and repainted. Lighting has been updated. But the most considerable work is the top-to-bottom restoration of the building itself—the first such renovation since the Memorial was completed nearly a century ago. Beginning at the Memorial’s pyramid level, we have begun a multi-year project to perform all needed structural repairs. Stone by stone, are repointing the mortar and protecting the building from water penetration. When completed, the building will be in better than new condition.
