Dear Members, Welcome to spring! Let me start by congratulating John Senden for winning the 2014 Valspar Championship on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort. We’re already looking forward to another vibrant and colorful event next year at our sister property. We have plenty of exciting and fun family activities this month. Feel like you’re at Augusta as you watch The Masters Tournament on the jumbo screen at the Clubhouse Grille. And if you’d like to prepare your little ones for the day they play in The Masters, our Spring Fling Junior golf camp begins in April. April brings us lots of Easter activities for the whole family. Whether it’s arts and crafts with Peter Cottontail at the water park, an Easter egg hunt, or our Easter Sunday Brunch buffet in the Grande Ballroom, Easter at Reunion will be fun and festive for all. For more information about upcoming activities and events at Reunion, please contact Bev Kelber. Our public relations team has also been hard at work getting the coverage for Reunion and our sister properties. Men’s and Ladies Club Championship (2 RMS events) After an eventful January, we stepped right into the month of February with the Men’s and Ladies Club Championship. This traditional two round tournament was made even more special this year as it also counted for Reunion Member Series points. With over 50 participants, there were two clear champions that stood amongst the competitors. In the Men’s division, TJ Cosgrove fired a two round total 146 gross (76, 70) to claim the 2014 Men’s Club Champion award while Brenda Rendleman earned the 2014 Ladies Club Champion award with a two round total 163 (80, 83). Congratulations to our new Club Champions!
Mulligans, Manicures and Martinis Following in the tradition of our former First Assistant Golf Professional Nick Amann, Jake Etherton has now taken over Mulligans, Martinis and Manicures to show our appreciation for the lady Members of Reunion. The female participants began the day with a round of golf, followed by a first class lunch accompanied with some cocktails! The winners of this two person net best ball were Kim Harvey and Connie Dodson, firing a net 60. Great job ladies!
Sweetheart Golf Tournament Our annual Sweetheart event was a great way to spend the day amongst fellow friends and also to practice teamwork skills in preparation for the Husband and Wife Club Championship. This year’s format was a two person scramble with alternate shot, making every shot count. Starting Valentine’s Day on the right foot was the team of Michel and Teresa Yip, who won gross (72), and Rich and Phyllis Sawyer winning net (59).
Husband and Wife Club Championship (Major Event) To end the month of February, we held the Husband and Wife Club Championship with 14 couples competing. The format for the first round was Best Ball, followed by a Modified Chapman in the second round. This year was a special year as three teams finished tied for gross at 146, which forced the teams into a sudden death play-off. Marshall and Melodi Sheffer finished the hole with a birdie, which won them the overall title of Husband and Wife Club Champions, while Darryl and Brenda Rendleman claimed the net prize. Last year’s champions Janet and Frank D’entremont finished a closed third.

Tune in to The Golf Channel this month to see Frank talking about the greatest innovations in the game of golf, as part of the ongoing UL Innovations Series. This month he talks about the development of the Stimpmeter, and the impact that the device he redesigned and introduced has had on the game, and how agronomy and course design has evolved over the years as a result.
Putting Under Pressure When putting under pressure, remember to retain your natural rhythm. As the pressure increases, our grip and our arms tend to tighten up, resulting in a “strike” rather than a “stroke.”

So next time you have a pressure putt, remember your rhythm! Thanks again for all your hard (and last minute!) work!

Counterbalanced Putters Frank, My question is I see a lot of counterbalanced putters on the market now. What exactly is that and is there any benefit to it?
Rick,
—Rick, MI
Counter balancing a putter is normally done by adding weight to both ends of the putter and in many cases is done in conjunction with an increase in the length of the putter by several inches, even though it is not intended for the golfer to grip the putter at the extended section.
Increasing the weight of the system at any point away from the axis will increase the Moment of Inertia (MOI) of the system making it a little more difficult to get the system (pendulum) into motion from the start of the stroke, and the change from the back stroke to the forward motion requires a little more energy. The reason why you see a number of manufacturers jumping on this band wagon, I believe, is because they don’t want to miss out on anything that is considered the “new” thing which initially sells reasonably well until the next “new” thing arrives on the scene. I will keep my eye on this new development and if there is any data available to show the benefit to golfers I will report it to our readers. Rick, I hope this answers your question and gives you something to think about for the rest of the winter in Michigan, which hopefully will not last too much longer. You need to come to Reunion Resort and take a lesson at the Frankly Putting PAD or spending some time reading The Fundamentals of Putting www.franklygolf. com/thefundamentalsofputting may do you more good than a counter-balanced putter and cost a lot less.
—Frank
gath erings | 9
The putting stroke is similar to the motion of a pendulum made up of the shoulders arms and the putter, swinging in, approximately, a 10-degree inclined plane. The putter head rotates about the spine axis, with the pivot point between your shoulder blades, and all other parts of the system fixed.
The putter, hands, arms, and shoulders are all a single rigid system. This is not truly the case because there is a little movement but the object is minimizing the movement at the joints of the system; i.e. the wrists, elbows, and shoulder joints.

The one word audience members most often use to describe Conner Lorre’s voice is “AMAZING”. Many conclude that he is “lip-syncing”. In fact, Conner once received the highest form of flattery when he was actually fired in the middle of a show in Florida. He was accused of “lip-syncing”. Conner offered the owner $1,000 if he could catch him lip-syncing. He tried, and of course, he failed. Inspired by this experience, Conner created his

Choosing the Right Racquet APRIL TENNIS TIP
Getting the right racquet can be crucial to your game and
firsthand how the racquets react, and more importantly, the type of player the particular racquet was designed to best fit.
how you will play, but it is also not the easiest thing to accomplish on your own.
After speaking with a professional and picking out the correct racquets, now it is time to go and hit with them. In my opinion, to get the best feeling of what the racquet can do, you should hit on a ball machine. The machine gives you a consistent ball to return that hitting with a friend or on a backboard cannot. You need to hit the same ball with all of the racquets, slowly eliminating the ones you don’t feel work for you.
gath erings | 22
The first thing to do when choosing a racquet is to find an outlet that has demos (racquets that you can borrow), so that you can try hitting with them, instead of just reacting to how they look. The second thing to do is talk with a tennis professional; there is no substitute for speaking with someone who knows
Following several hitting sessions, you should be able to narrow it down to two or so, then be able to make your final selection based on your personal preference.
AS WELL AS THE REGULAR 10% DISCOUNT, MEMBERS ALSO RECEIVE SPECIAL MEMBER PRICING MONDAYS . WEDNESDAYS ON SPA SERVICES.
