gatherings

Dear Members, Spring is coming to a close and it’s almost time for summer at Reunion. Let me start by wishing all of the moms a very happy Mother’s Day. May brings us lots of exciting and fun family activities. Celebrate mom at Reunion with an Italian-inspired Mother’s Day brunch at Forte or a trip to the spa for some much-deserved pampering. Reunion will have plenty of other exciting activities happening in May. Stop by the Clubhouse for Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Watch the Kentucky Derby and enjoy a menu inspired by the race or experience the colorful Cinco de Mayo menu. Don’t forget about our all-American Memorial Day BBQ on the Water park lawn. For more information about our May events, please contact your membership office. Our public relations team has also been hard at work getting the coverage for Reunion and our sister properties. We are excited to share these great stories about our properties: Chefs ready to celebrate Mom, Orlando Sentinel The best par 5 golf holes in Central Florida, Examiner.com Anna & Houston at Reunion Resort, Blush Bridal Blog Splish, Splash! General Manager’s Corner Thank you for such a warm welcome to Reunion Resort & Club!

Many of you have heard a bit about my background by now, but I would like for you all to know that the hospitality business, specifically Resorts with Club Membership components and high-end amenities, has been my calling for more than 30 years. I started as a busboy when I was only 15 years old, then worked my way up to include various responsibilities such as front office manager, director of rooms division, director of group sales, and general manager. I graduated with honors from the University of Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant & Travel Administration. I also earned the Certified Hospitality Administrator designation from the American Hotel & Lodging Association. Subsequent hospitality positions have included Director of Operations at Sanibel Harbor Resort & Spa in Fort Myers, Florida, and Director of Operations at Wild Dunes Resort in Charleston, South Carolina. I joined Hammock Beach Resort in 2004 as Director of Operations and was appointed General Manager one year later. Earning and retaining the coveted AAA Four-Diamond award for outstanding quality and personalized service experiences was a highlight at each of these properties. It has been just over two months since my arrival as the Managing Director for Reunion Resort & Club, and I have been meeting with many Club members, residents, ABOG members, and ABOG committee members during this time. I have heard many compliments as well as many suggestions, and all of your feedback will be very helpful to me as I push forward to guide change, to improve Resort and Club operations, and to enhance our Club member experiences. I look forward to the pleasure of meeting many more of you personally in the coming weeks and months!

Carlton W. Grant, CHA Managing Director Reunion Resort & Club

Club Updates MEMBERSHIP RECORDS AUDIT

GOLF COURSE IMPROVEMENTS

The Reunion Membership Office will be conducting an audit of Membership records in the coming months in order to ensure all information is up-to-date and Members are in the proper Membership category. As a reminder, immediate family privileges are offered to a Member, his or her spouse and their unmarried children, under the age of twenty-three (23), who are living at home, attending school on a full-time basis or in the military.

The Reunion golf course maintenance team, under the direction of Superintendent Tray Maltby, is currently working on a number of enhancements to continue to improve our Member’s golf course experiences. This year’s Green Committee, chaired by Jim Staskiel, has put together project lists that will be documented and uploaded to the Member’s website for all Members to review. If you would like to add items to the list, please email Kevin Baker at kbaker@reunionresort.com or Vic Shallow at vshallow@reunionresort.com.

If needed information is missing from your Membership Agreement, a Membership representative will be contacting you in order to update our files; we hope to have this project completed by the end of the Membership Year (December 31, 2014). Your prompt cooperation is greatly appreciated as we work to ensure that we have the most accurate data on file.

Below are a few items that are currently underway: Fertilization of distress areas Palmer 9-hole hole bunker test project New flag poles New rakes Additional shrubs, plants, flowers and mulch Pine straw for tee marker areas Sod for transition areas gath erings | 5

St. Patrick’s Day Tournament In true Irish spirit, St. Patrick’s Day was a gloomy morning, but that didn’t stop our Members from braving the wet weather and donning their green clothes. The format was a four person scramble with 10% of the team’s handicap. In first place, with a net score of 55.2, was the team of Brenda Rendleman, Roberta Sentel, and Melodi and Marshall Sheffer.

Reunion Member Series Championship We kicked off the month of March with two events for the Reunion Member Series before the actual RMS Championship. It was an exciting finish to this yearlong series, where it could have been anyone’s prize right up to the last event. With the final round counting for double points, attendance was crucial for the people in contention.

Rendleman, and in the net division, Terry Pyle and David Fitzgibbons. Congratulations to all event winners and Series Champions – enjoy that cruise for two!

Member / Member Tournament The 2014 Member/Member Tournament consisted of 31 teams (13 ladies and 18 men’s), which resulted in two ladies and three men’s flights. The format over the three days was best ball 9 hole matches played on Palmer and Watson. After the three days of match play, five flight winners advanced to a final shootout on holes 17 and 18 of the Palmer Course.

Shooting a personal best that day was Michel Yip, who fired a 68 (net 63) to win gross and net in the men’s division, while Roberta Sentel took gross with a 74 and Janet D’Entremont won net with a 64.

This final was slightly different than previous years, as we had an overall men’s and ladies champion. On the ladies shootout, a net birdie by Kris Lanman was enough to clinch the 2014 Ladies Member – Member Championship. In the men’s shootout, the team of Mayer/Sheffer were eliminated on the 17th hole, which left Pelfrey/ Fitzgibbons and Fiala/Lawton battling it out on the 18th hole. Defending champions Pelfrey/ Fitzgibbons made a net birdie in order to hold onto the title of Member – Member Champions.

Overall Reunion Member Series Champions for the year in the gross division were TJ Cosgrove and Brenda

Thank you to everyone that participated and made this a memorable event!

frankly G O L F Great Practice Putting Drill One of the best practice drills we like to share with students who visit the Frankly Putting PAD is to putt balls from four positions around the hole (think north, south, east and west on a compass). Start off with three foot putts, then move back to six foot, then to nine foot putts.

gath erings | 10

Commit to each putt as if you were in competition and see how many you sink. Do not putt twice from the same spot…you don’t get a second chance on the golf course!

For Q&A’s please visit www.franklygolf.com/golfequipmentqaarchive.aspx or stop by the Putting PAD on your next visit to Reunion Resort! BOOK A PUTTING LESSON AT THE PAD To book a putting lesson at the PAD, call 407.396.4004. Individual and Group lessons are available.

Differences between Eastern and Semi-Western Grips MAY TENNIS TIP

gath erings | 24

One question that is often asked is “What grip should I be using? There is no simple answer to this question, but there are definitely some options that make for easier shot selection, as well as transitions. Before talking about grip names and hand placement, you must first understand how a grip looks on a tennis racquet. No matter which brand of racquet you use, whether it is Head, Prince, Wilson, Babalot, or any other brand, the handle always has eight sides to it. When referring to grips, you must visualize a racquet with the strings facing outward towards the court. When doing this, the top bevel of the handle is considered to be bevel 1.

Eastern Grip gives you a little spin with the contact point being a little deeper into your body. * Index knuckle is on bevel 3 and your fat pad is located on bevel 2

Semi-Western Grip more natural top spin with the contact point being further in front of you. * Your index knuckle is on bevel 4 and your fat pad is on bevel 3
