NEW SINGLE FAMILY HOMES RENTAL PROGRAM ANNOUNCED

Rudy Briscoe 56 year-old Masters Track Athlete (and Reunion Service Professional!) Breaks World Record in the 200 meter event Rudolph “Rudy” Briscoe, 56, a Reunion golf maintenance department spray technician, ran 22.89 seconds in the 200 meter event. Currently this is the fastest time in the world for an athlete in his age group. The historic run took place at the NTC Track Meet in Clermont, Florida on Saturday, May 31. Until now, no other sprinter in this age group has ever run sub 23 seconds. However, Rudy’s 200 meter performance will not be recorded as an official world record, due to the wind reading of 3.4m/s. Under IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) and USATF (USA Track & Field) rules, the wind may not exceed 2.0m/s.

gath erings | 6

Back in 2012, Gatherings profiled Rudy for wining gold and silver medals with his relay team, the Jamaican Masters, in the 4 x 100m 50 and older division at the famed Penn Relays. Rudy has been a competitive track athlete since his high school days at Clarendon College, Chapelton, Jamaica. Even now, he still devotes 3 to 4 days each week to his training. In 2011 Rudy represented Jamaica at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Sacramento, California, where he won the 400 meter event. Rudy is a frequent competitor at the Penn Relays and USA Masters Nationals. According to Masters Athletics Ranking, Rudy is currently ranked number one in the world in the masters 55 age group (M55) in the 200 meter and 400 meter events. Way to go, Rudy!

Chris McCutcheon The Member Employee Recognition Program (MERP) Committee met in June to review the ballots received during the prior month. The ballot submitted for one employee resulted in a unanimous vote as top nominee.

His ballot read “Chris managed a 35th wedding anniversary dinner for us and gave us a time to remember. He personalized our menus and even cut the cake for us. He is always in the restaurants greeting and talking to customers making sure everything is perfect. He is also there helping staff and doing what is needed to make sure every person is taken care of promptly. He made our special day the highlight of our family weekend with his friendly, professional, and personalized attention to every detail.”

The employee has been with Reunion since March 2013. He has managed in the Water Park, Eleven, Forte, the Lobby Bar, and the Clubhouse; sometimes multiple venues at the same time. He has been seen coming into the Grande with his dress clothes to be worn in the restaurants following a full day at the Water Park. He was recently noticed bringing in additional tables and chairs for a game night when more members showed up than expected. He has been witnessed in ABOG TRE meetings where he did an excellent job representing the Food and Beverage Team by coming up with solutions to problems impacting Members. He demonstrates enthusiasm, sincerity, and an energy level that makes it possible for him to routinely perform at a level of exceptional service.

During the June Member Reception, Chris was given a gift card that he can use anywhere in Reunion and a special name tag that symbolizes him as a MERP recipient. He will be considered along with other MERP recipients for the annual award which is a two-night stay in any one of the three Florida Salamander Resorts.

You can submit a ballot for an employee who has demonstrated exceptional service at any time – not just within the month the service was performed. MERP ballots are available at all Reunion outlets or click here to access and submit a ballot online. Your explanation is limited to 500 characters.

The employee we are referring to is Chris McCutcheon, the winner of the May MERP award.

Next time you see Chris, congratulate him and let him know how much we appreciate his management skills in the Reunion Food and Beverage outlets.

frankly G O L F Advantages of Adjustable Drivers Dear Frank, I recently got into a friendly argument about adjustable drivers. My stance was that fit is just as important for a driver as it is for irons and putters, and as such, the adjustability of modern drivers gives us the ability to “tweak” our drivers until they fit our swing. My friend’s opinion is that all the adjustments are just hype, or a crutch, and that you should just learn to hit it better. Where do you stand on adjustable drivers? Do you think they make a difference? If so, how much? There is no doubt in my mind that the settings affect what my ball does. But I do wonder…is it all in my mind?

gath erings | 12

–Tim, TX

Tim, It is not all in your mind and I think that an adjustable driver is a good thing. The only problem is that one should first know what you need, and then these adjustments can help fine tune the performance of your club reasonably well-if standard is not right for you. One of the problems is that the average golfer is sometimes unsure of what he/she needs or how to get there-in spite of the instructions provided. Most golfers are affected by the bells and whistles, believing the ability to make multiple adjustments-in some cases 20 or more options — will result in improving a bad swing. In many cases, without professional help, most golfers are only guessing what to do and will probably do more harm than good with the adjustable tool in their hands.

Putting Tip Putt With Imagination Before you putt, take a moment to imagine the ball travelling towards and falling into the hole.

One of the best things about adjustability is the ability to change shafts, allowing the golfer to get the right flex and length using the same head, which will probably help more than the other adjustments available.

Click here to review our Frankly Frog Putter Fitting video to make sure your putter is properly fitted, and remember on your next visit to Reunion Resort you can always visit the Frankly Golf Putting Academy at the lower putting green for some expert help.

With regard to irons, these should be fitted for lie angle and shaft flex. These adjustments should be done with the help of a professional fitter and are relatively simple.

Tim, when you make good friends with your clubs, you don’t have to change them for quite a while as advances in technology are not moving very rapidly. The next move you will need to make when your game gets rusty is to get a lesson from a qualified-qualified is very important-teacher.

As far as a putter is concerned, the two most important things to consider are:

a) the putter type-a mallet style is generally preferred and

b) the correct length-most golfers have putters which are too long.

I hope this helps, and now you can sleep a little better and play with more confidence knowing that you have the correctly fitted equipment.

–Frank

The loft of a well-designed putter is 4-degrees, so no adjustment is needed and if the putter is fitted correctly for length the lie, the angle will be very close to 72 degrees.

For Q&A’s please visit www.franklygolf.com/golfequipmentqaarchive.aspx or stop by the Putting PAD on your next visit to Reunion Resort! BOOK A PUTTING LESSON AT THE PAD To book a putting lesson at the PAD, call 407.396.4004. Individual and Group lessons are available.

JULY TENNIS TIP “T” IS THE KEY If you’ve ever been playing doubles and feel like your opponents are just killing you with their shots and returns, there is something that you can do.

Why does hitting this area eliminate court? Basically it comes down to geometry. The wider you hit a serve, or any shot for that matter, the more court you give your opponent to hit to on your side. Angles create angles! If you serve out wide, then not only are you giving them more of an angle cross court, but you are also giving them an easier down the line shot, one that can literally be hit around your net player.

Doubles is a very interesting game because even though you have an additional person on your side to help you cover the court, it also means that now your opponents can hit more angles because the court is 9’ wider (the alleys).

Another advantage to serving down the T is the fact that you will get your net player more involved in the point. Balls will be traveling more down the middle of the court, enabling them to be more aggressive and stick their nose out to pick the returns off.

One simple thing that you can do in order to eliminate some of that court is to serve down the “T”. The T is the middle service box area where the center service line meets the service line, creating a T.

Just remember, if you want to be a more effective doubles player, the “T” is the key.
