General Manager’s Corner
I am pleased to announce that some requested capital expenditures were recently approved by the Salamander Hotels & Resorts Management team, which will lead to several improvements throughout the property. These improvements will include: • Additional driving range mats • A wash pad area for golf carts • A stairway leading from the practice area to the Grande Pavilion Tent • Tennis court resurfacing • New pedicure chairs • Clubhouse verandah furniture Please look for these enhancements around the Club in the coming weeks and months. Also in the works are several other projects, such as improvements to the existing fitness center and secure access to a Member’s only parking area. We hope to have these initiatives complete by the beginning of the 2014 fall season. Additional capital improvements are ongoing and will be communicated to you as they are scheduled to occur. Membership Updates REUNION DOG POLICY
Please note that dogs are not allowed at any Reunion Resort Food and Beverage outlet, including outdoor areas such as The Cove and the Clubhouse veranda. The only exception to this policy is a service animal, defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), businesses and organizations that serve the public must allow people with disabilities to bring their service animals into all areas of the facility where customers are normally allowed to go. This federal law also overrides state, county, and city laws when there is a conflict and always favors the disabled person. When visiting a restaurant, the restaurant must allow a service animal to accompany the disabled person. The law clearly states that they must not isolate the disabled person from other patrons or treat them less favorably than other patrons.
Tips for Interacting with Disabled Persons with a Service Dog Do not speak to the dog. Speak to the person instead. First and foremost, do not distract the dog by petting it, calling to it, meowing or barking at it, or offering it food. You may ASK to pet the dog, but be respectful if the owner says “no.� Keep in mind that Club Members must abide by the Reunion Rules and Regulations. In accordance with the Preamble and General Club Rules:
The personnel of the Club will have full authority to enforce these Rules and Regulations and any infractions will be reported to the management of the Club.
Violation of any of these rules or conduct in a manner prejudicial to the best interests of the Club will subject the person in violation to disciplinary action by the Company in accordance with these Rules and Regulations.
MEMBERSHIP RECORDS AUDIT
The Reunion Membership Office will be conducting an audit of Membership records in the coming months in order to ensure all information is up-to-date and Members are in the proper Membership category. As a reminder, immediate family privileges are offered to a Member, his or her spouse and their unmarried children, under the age of twenty-three (23), who are living at home, attending school on a full-time basis or in the military. If needed information is missing from your Membership Agreement, a Membership representative will be contacting you in order to update our files; we hope to have this project completed by the end of the Membership Year (December 31, 2014). Your prompt cooperation is greatly appreciated as we work to ensure that we have the most accurate data on file.
MEMBER PAYMENTS
As a reminder, all Members are obligated to keep a valid approved credit card, or ACH Debit information to deduct outstanding balances directly from their bank account, on file with the Club at all times. Payments are processed on the last business day prior to the 15th of each month, and balances are due in full when charged. Members are responsible for any amounts that are not paid by the credit card company or direct debit; failure to comply could result in suspension and eventual termination of your Membership account. One Person Scramble The one person scramble took place on the Nicklaus course where participants played two balls on each shot and chose the best shot. In the Ladies division, Brenda Rendleman won gross with a score of 65, and Sue Greenstein won best net with a score of 58. In the Men’s division, Chris Clegg blew the field away with a gross score of 62, while Luke Riddington shot a fantastic net score of 57.
Spring Members Golf Week April saw many familiar faces back in town for our much anticipated Spring Member’s Week. The event, which is open to all members, consisted of four different games where points were awarded for the top five spots in each event.

At the end of the four events, overall winners in both gross and net categories were determined. An awards luncheon for the winners of Spring Members Week followed play on Sunday, along with our annual Silent Auction.
Our overall Point winners for the week: Men’s Gross: Frank D’Entremont Men’s Net: John Pelfrey Ladies Gross: Roberta Sentel Ladies Net: Phyllis Sawyer Sunday’s event (the Watson Open) was the first event in the return of the Reunion Member Series. This event did not count towards the total point standings for Spring Members Week. All Reunion Member Series events consist of stroke play points awarded in order of finishing place in each division. In the gross division, Frank D’Entremont and Roberta Sentel were leading point winners, while Derek Whelan and Leslie McLatchie led in the net division.
Two Person Best Ball Eight teams took part in the 2-person Best Ball where each person played their own ball out and picked the lowest individual score. In the gross division, the team of Bill and Pat Lewis won with a score of 77, and in the net division, Jim and Virginia Shelton emerged victorious with a score of 61.

Changing Putters for Green Speeds?
Stimpmeter – ( see The birth of the Stimpmeter at www.franklygolf.com/stimpmeter.aspx ) – on the practice green and then make a decision as to which of several putters you are going to select for that particular range of green speeds.

Second, making contact with ball on the toe of the putter-face, for fast greens, again introduces another variable leading to inconsistencies - how far toward the toe will you strike it and for what green speed or down slope?
I know you are the designer of the Frankly Frog Putter, you teach putting and you were involved with the Stimpmeter. I need some information about putters and green speed. A friend told me that on slow greens you should use a heavy putter and on fast greens use a lighter putter. What is your opinion?
Ron Ron, Yes, I have helped numerous golfers with their putting strokes and this in combination with the Frankly Frog Putter has resulted in many very happy customers who are now enjoying their time on the green, are confident and have been able to lower their handicap as a result.
The difference between a slow and a fast green, independent of the putter you intend to use, is that the faster green will have more break than the slower green for the same side-hill slope, and you must launch the ball faster for the slower green than a faster green for a specific length putt. The speed of the putter head for a specific length putt is a judgment call based on your experience and pre-shot plan and routine. This will be different for every putt, so why try to complicate this further by introducing another variable by using a different putter for every green speed or missing the sweet spot intentionally for down hill putts or faster greens? Ron, I hope this has helped. If you really want to improve your putting I would strongly suggest that you try a Frankly Frog putter and/or come and visit us at the Putting PAD next time you are visiting Orlando.

There has been some speculation that one needs a heavier putter than normal for slower greens. In addition, some golfers have suggested that you make contact on the toe of the putter face or use a light putter for fast greens or down hill putts.
LOWER PUTTING GREEN: ONLY PUTTING AND CHIPPING
I disagree with both of these notions for the following reasons:

First, it is important to groove your putting stroke to be as consistent as possible. Consistency is of utmost importance in putting.
Chipping (or bump and run) with 7, 8 and 9 irons, no more that 1 foot high are permitted at the area of the green furthest from the Frankly Golf Putting Academy. Other areas have been designated for the practice of lob shots and pitch shots. Golfers with any questions should contact Kevin Baker.

To be consistent you must not add an additional variable by changing the instrument for different course conditions. For a slow green, the ball must be launched a little faster than for a fast green for the same length putt. This difference should be established on the practice putting green which should be similar in speed to the greens on the course. It does not make sense to get out a

Marco Celleri Reunion Club Member Recognition Program (MERP) Recognizes Marco Celleri as April Honoree It has only been three months since the Member Employee Recognition Program (MERP) has been in effect. This is an opportunity where members – not just Resort guests - have a voice in recognizing exceptional service displayed by Reunion employees. For the program to work, it requires all members to notice the efforts being taken and complete a ballot when warranted. Each month, the 5 members on the MERP committee review the ballots received during the prior month and vote for the top nominee. All nominated employees are honored at a special employee breakfast and the winner is announced during our Member Receptions. Marco Celleri, a native of Ecuador, is the winner of the April MERP award. Although he performs various tasks under the Housekeeping Department, he has been awarded for exceptional service that he demonstrates on an ongoing basis by maintaining our golf course comfort stations.

Who doesn’t want a more powerful serve? If you are one of those players who enjoys just getting the first serve in, then you are not using the serve to your advantage. The rules of tennis are that you get two attempts to get a serve in. If you are always getting your first serve in, then you are not hitting the ball as hard as you could. The first step to getting a faster serve is to realize that ball speed is a direct product from racquet speed. Basically, the faster you move your racquet, the faster the ball is going to travel.
When first trying to get more speed, you have to give up the control in order to understand the power source. If you have a super controlled serve to begin with, you are ahead of the game because it is always easier to add power to a shot rather than control. Once you’ve got an understanding of the racquet speed, you then need to look at how you are getting it. One thing that must happen to create that speed is the longer you keep your knuckles up (to the sky) with your swinging arm, the more “snap” you will get. Lastly, you must practice! The serve is the only shot in tennis that you can practice without needing an opponent, ball-machine or backboard.

Surrey Bike Rentals Single Bench $25/per ½ hour Double Bench $30/per ½ hour All guests must be 18 years of age or older to drive and 58 inches or taller to be in a pedaling position. Proper foot attire is required (no flip flops, bare feet or open.toed shoes). Please note: rentals begin at 10 am and end one hour before the park closes.
Junior Lifeguard Program (Class is scheduled by appointment only. At least 48 hours advance notice required.) This 2 hour program is for children 6 - 15 to get a jump start into learning the basics of Lifeguarding. This class is intended for intermediate or advanced swimmers only.
