Managing Director’s Corner
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Mason as Director of Food & Beverage of Reunion Resort & Club. With over 30 years’ experience, Robert brings with him a wealth of knowledge, fresh insights, and an eagerness to continually evolve the food and beverage experience for both members and guests. Formally trained during a three year apprenticeship under Italian Master Chef Ermes Paulin, Robert was quickly named Executive Chef of Vic Stewart’s Steakhouse at the young age of 24. During Robert’s tenure, Vic Stewart’s was named the number one restaurant in America for innovative menu by the American Beef Council in 1995. In 1999, Robert moved to the Orlando area, where he was part of the opening team and served as Executive Chef for The Westin Grand Bohemian. Robert was soon promoted to Food & Beverage Director and Corporate Executive Chef where he oversaw eight properties for The Kessler Collection. During the last six years Robert held the positon of Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage at The Westin in Orlando. During his career, Robert has received many awards and accomplishments, including Top 20 Chefs in Orlando (2005), Nations Restaurant News Fine Dining Hall of Fame (2008), and Orlando Magazine Hall of Fame (2009). Robert was also a guest Chef at James Beard House in New York City and had the honor of cooking for President Obama. Robert also elevated the last two properties he worked at to 4 Diamond Dining status and Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence. As a multi-award winning chef with extensive front and back of house experience, his culinary achievements will bring a new dimension to Reunion’s restaurants, banquet and catering facilities.
Sincerely,

Reunion Assistant Golf Professional Wins Championship Congratulations to Jake Etherton, who took first place in the North Florida PGA Assistants Championship Tournament on Tuesday, August 18! Jake won by 3 strokes with scores of 69-67136 for an 8 under total. This prestigious victory now qualifies him for the National Car Rental PGA Assistants National Championship at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie in October. We are proud to have Jake as a champion and as a member of our team here at Reunion!
The “Open” Members Challenge
Our annual July 4th Flag Day event was held on the Watson Course and played in a stroke play format. Traditionally each contestant receives a small American Flag that they hold onto until they have taken all their strokes (Par plus Handicap). The winner this year was Marshaalah Ebrahimian. He hit the 1st tee shot. In the Ladies division we had Virginia Shelton finish the 18th hole to take home the win.
The “Open” Members Challenge is played in the same format as the US Open Tournament. The members competing in the event pick a pro from the US Open field and combine the professional’s final round score in the US Open with their own score. This year’s winner was David Fitzgibbons shooting a net 61, combined with his pro Matt Kuchar, who shot 71, for a grand total of 132. In the ladies division, the winner was Kris Lanman with a net score of 75, combined with her pro Jordan Speith, who shot 69, for a grand total of 144.

In this new comedy adventure, celebrated travel writer, Bill Bryson (Academy Award winner Robert Redford), instead of retiring to enjoy his loving and beautiful wife (Academy Award winner Emma Thompson), and large and happy family, challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail - 2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find, though, is anything but, once he agrees to being accompanied by the only person he can find willing to join him on the trek - his long lost and former friend Katz (Academy Award nominee Nick Nolte), a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who, after a lifetime of relying on his charm and wits to keep one step ahead of the law – sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts and sneak into one last adventure before it’s too late. The trouble is the two have a completely different definition of the word, “adventure”. Now they’re about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins. The Club will provide your movie ticket; Members are responsible for their own transportation to the movie theater at Posner Park and refreshments. The shot today that we are going to discuss is the forehand chip shot. This shot, unlike others, is one that you can disguise easily and also one that you can use from all areas of the court. You can make it look like a drop shot or even a lob, all while keeping with the great penetration that this shot has to offer.
Once you start to move the racket forward, you need to make sure that you don’t swing down; move it straight forward parallel to the ground. This ensures that you won’t hit the net and makes the ball skid after hitting the ground rather than bouncing up.
When attempting this shot, you can use it mostly as an approach shot but it is also highly used for returns, especially with fast serves.
