Internships
In 2018, Grand Pacific Resorts partnered with Christel House to pioneer a new summer internship program. We provided the interns an environment similar to college curriculum, including a course schedule aligning to projects, assigned objectives, taught career workshops, and equipped them with a point of contact similar to an academic advisor. Additionally, fun outings where team members bonded with the interns were scheduled to give them some SoCal fun during their six-week internship.

Since 2003, Grand Pacific Resorts has hosted the annual Christel House Open Golf International Tournament in Vista, California. In 2019, the year before the COVID-19 global pandemic, Grand Pacific Resorts managed to rally support and raise $100,000 for Christel House International at the 17th Annual RCI Christel House Open at Shadowridge Country Club. At this fun tournament, major sponsors, along with the attendance of 120 golfers, including some of our resort staff, come out for a fun day of golfing for good. Raffle tickets can be purchased for a chance to win several great prizes – all in the name of charity to drive out poverty. “It only takes $3,500 to provide education, meals, clothes, transporation, and healthcare to one child for one year. This event brings me hope that together those children will go on to become leaders in their community and also inspire a lifetime of helping the next generation.”

David came home with a mission: to raise enough money to buy laptops for every high schooler, knowing that doing so would provide them with the learning resourcees and computer literacy that is so essential in today’s world. Donors immediately answered the call and in less than 90 days, contributed $45,000 – enough to purchase HP Chromebook laptops pre-loaded with educational software for each of the 180 Christel House México high school students. Little did anyone at the time know just how impeccable the timing of this initiative would be, and that within just a few short months, distance learning would become the new norm for students in the world. We were so humbled to be able to provide Christel House with the necessary equipment for remote education just ahead of the global health crisis.

In January 2020, co-president, David Brown, visited Christel House México, and asked the principal what Christel House still needed. It came to light that the school wished they have laptops for it’s high school students.

The walk-a-thon provided an opportunity for all our Associates to participate and connect with the cause from their own homes!
Sole With the emergence of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Christel House had to find innovative ways to keep their sponsors involved with the cause while abiding by social distancing rules & regulations as advised by the CDC & WHO.
