Live Music in The Stage Door Rachel’s Dream

Copperwood Bluegrass Band

Thursday 14 May 8pm

Wednesday 20 May 8pm

When Benny Goodman entered a New York recording studio in 1935 with Gene Krupa and Teddy Wilson “chamber jazz” was born, showcasing the individual talents of the musicians involved and it is this format that Rachel's Dream takes as a starting point, making this a refreshingly different quartet. This promises to be an entertaining night!

This band hail from North Devon and feature double bass, fiddle, mandolin and vocals. They play classic tunes from the likes of Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers, Alison Krauss and Union Station alongside original material with mellow bluegrass, old timey and Irish influences, which they like to call the ‘Devonish mellow blend’.

The formation of Slide by Slide is the brainchild of Kevin Grenfell who enrolled the musical talents of fellow trombonist Richard Leach and in the rhythm section a dazzling array of musicianship with Graham Smith on drums, John Fellows on bass and Rod Kelly on piano.

With roots in the Great Lakes State of Michigan, this band’s live performances are passionate affairs that stir the blood and exhilarate – from bluesy works of wonder to blistering bluegrass beauty. The band certainly has a fresh approach to the American roots genres which are explored and confidently conquered. “uplifting rootsy acoustic music of the finest quality” Maverick magazine “Exciting – with a pulse and rhythm that sets them apart” AmericanaUK

A celebration of the music of The Carpenters and the spirit of Karen Carpenter – brilliantly performed by vocalist Toni Lee, with her big band and singers. The Carpenters scored an unprecedented 17 consecutive US billboard top ten hits. The timeless quality of the Carpenters music makes it as relevant today as when they achieved their first UK hit ‘Close To You’ in 1970. Karen Carpenter had a unique voice, so unique in fact that it has proven almost impossible to duplicate, its deep smoky emotional edge creating that uniqueness that is so hard to perfect. Now for the very first time in over 30 years the voice that melted a thousand romantic hearts lives again through Toni Lee, in this high quality production. Tickets Cons
