Nobody's Perfect

TUES 4 to SAT 8 OCT

Groups 10+ £12.50 Tues to Thurs only

‘Love Is All Around’ is the name of a feminist publishing house where Harriet Copeland is running a competition to find new romantic fiction written by women only. Leonard Loftus is trying to get his books published, but Harriet keeps sending his manuscripts back because they are the work of a man. When Leonard finally sends a manuscript based on his experience as a single parent, and uses the female pseudonym "Myrtle Banbury", Harriet is impressed. She finds the writing superb and insists on meeting Myrtle so she can hand over the prize money and get Myrtle's signature on a contract. In order to collect the money, Leonard is forced to carry on the pretence that "Myrtle" exists, by dressing up as a woman and pretending that he is his own fictitious aunt. Leonard's teenage daughter, Dee Dee, and his father, Gus, play along with the deception with hilarious consequences. Cast includes Stephen Beckett (The Bill, Coronation Street) and Leah Bracknell (Emmerdale). @talkingScarlet

DRAMA

A Tale of Two Cities

TUES 11 to SAT 15 OCT

Groups 10+ £4off 20+ £5off

Dickens considered his novel, A Tale of Two Cities the best story he had ever written. Interweaving one family’s intensely personal drama with the terror and chaos of the French Revolution, it is an epic story of love, sacrifice and redemption amidst horrific violence and world changing events. In an era of regime changes and citizen protest around the world, this bold new dramatic adaptation by Mike Poulton (Fortune’s Fool, Old Vic; Wolf Hall) set to rousing original music by Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman (The Cider House Rules, Beloved) seems more relevant than ever. Directed by James Dacre Audio Described Friday 14 October 7:30pm Wednesday 12 October, Post show, FREE with your show ticket With Neale Birch and members of the company, no booking necessary, just come down to the front of the stalls after the show. James Wilton Presents LEVIATHAN

TUES 8 NOV

LEVIATHAN follows Ahab, a ship captain hell-bent on capturing the white whale: Moby Dick, a beast as vast and dangerous as the sea itself, yet serene and beautiful beyond all imagining. Ahab’s crew is drawn into the unhinged charisma of their captain, blindly following him on his perilous adventure towards almost certain destruction. Multi-award winning choreographer James Wilton re-imagines Herman Melville’s seminal novel, Moby Dick. Featuring a cast of 7, Wilton’s trademark blend of athletic dance, martial arts, capoeira and partner-work, LEVIATHAN will have you on the edge of your seat. It will leave you gasping for air under the sheer ferocity of movement, all accompanied by a powerful electro-rock soundtrack by Lunatic Soul. LEVIATHAN has been commissioned by: The Barbican Theatre, Plymouth University and Ocean City Festival, Swindon Dance, The Place, Blackpool Grand, Barnsley Civic, The Gulbenkian and BBC Performing Arts Fund, with support from Arts Council England.
