WELCOME The Grand is excited to welcome the RSC to the Grand Theatre with its production First Encounter: The Taming of the Shrew. This is an ideal introduction to Shakespeare. The show includes time with the actors prior and after the main presentation offering a distilled version of the original text. For all Primary Schools who are interested in introducing ballet to children and explore new ways into nursery rhymes and traditional stories, what better way than a visit to Northern Ballet’s Three Little Pigs. Brassed Off To coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike of 1984, we are proud to present this production of Brassed Off directed by Damian Cruden (director of Olivier Award winning ‘Best Entertainment’ The Railway Children. Featuring rousing live music including Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez and Jerusalem, Brassed Off is a funny and heart-warming drama that reaches stirring heights as a locally cast Brass Band performs the final scene, set in the Royal Albert Hall. Join Ballet Theatre UK on this dramatic re-telling of Hans Christian Andersen’s all-time favourite story of The Little Mermaid, who falls in love with a human Prince and gives up everything to win his love. The kind hearted Little Mermaid rescues the Prince during a storm at sea, and begins a journey that takes her far from her home beneath the waves. Determined to pursue her love on to the shore she makes a bargain with an evil Sea Witch, but it comes at a heavy price.

Creative Learning The Grand Theatre has a long history of offering creative opportunities for children, young people, schools, families and adults to enhance their experience of the Theatre’s programme.
