Mack and Mabel In 1928, silent movie director, Mack Sennett, returns to his old film studio but things have changed dramatically since he was last there – “talkies” have taken over. He reminisces about the good old days and the glorious era of silent movies. Now step back in time. It is 1911 and Mack is making his latest film. Mabel Normand, a delicatessen worker, delivers lunch orders to the studio and she’s not leaving until she has been paid. Mayhem ensues and she catches the eye – and heart – of Mack. He thinks she has potential as an actress and offers her a part in his next film. Eventually she accepts and they become a successful dynamic duo – she as an actress and he for his two-reeler films. Eventually, Mabel wants to move on from comedy and star in serious dramas but Mack disagrees and tries to discourage her. At a Hollywood party, Mabel meets another movie director, who is instantly attracted to her, and agrees to feature her in serious films. Although Mack is heartbroken, he lets her go. Will Mack and Mabel be reunited? Will there be a happy ending?

PRESCRIPTION: MURDER is the first case ever written involving Lieutenant Columbo. It was penned by Richard Levinson and William Link, who formed one of the most notable writing and producing teams in the history of U.S. television. As well as their success with Columbo, they went on to write the hugely popular series Murder She Wrote. International star Dirk Benedict is known by millions for his roles as Templeton “Faceman” Peck in The A-Team and Lieutenant Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica. He is joined by a star cast including acclaimed British actor Patrick Ryecart. The plot of PRESCRIPTION: MURDER revolves around Psychiatrist Roy Fleming, who is celebrating his wedding anniversary when he is called away to deal with a female patient. On returning he has to soothe his angry wife with the promise of a vacation. Fleming’s wife is soon found dead, and Columbo is brought in to investigate. It isn’t long before the seeds of doubt are planted in his mind… Prescription: Murder was originally a stage play before becoming the pilot episode for the television series. This is the first major UK tour for Columbo and is an absolute must for fans of all ages.

A Servant To Two Masters Adapted by Lee Hall
Prior to its run at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Grand Youth Theatre Company takes to the main house stage with Carlo Goldoni’s classic 18th century commedia, in a new translation by Lee Hall, A Servant To Two Masters. ‘I get double the pay, and two suppers. Streamlined efficiency, a sort of downsizing of the service economy. If they’d thought it up, it’d be called innovation.’ Confusion abounds in Goldoni’s comedy of disguise, deception, love and longing as Truffaldino tries to please all. Now set in the 60s the GYTC serves up an evening of fun and frolics in this classic of farces.

La Bohème The Marriage of Figaro presented by Co-Opera Co.
Whether this is your first taste of La Bohème or you are a connoisseur of Puccini’s masterpiece, you will adore this celebration of all things youthful. William Relton’s inspired direction takes us on a heart-breaking journey. Puccini’s glorious melodies echo the innocence and petulance, the passion and despair, the optimism and loss which are the potent ingredients of this classic tale of love. Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro has often been referred to as one of the three perfect “popular” operas. Its heady mix of comedy and pathos, lust and love, betrayal and social intrigue is every bit as powerful and relevant today as it was in the 18th century.

Tom Doughty “Studio Blues”
Tom is one of the most original new artists I have heard in a long time. With his unique approach to guitar and his vocal interpretations of traditional and his original tunes, he has managed to create music that is all his own.
“His playing and vocal style comes from that natural place great music comes from - personal expression, honest and right from the heart. The music just flows.” Woody Mann. Or to put it in the words of Michael Prince in a recent review, “Tom’s music is organic and free. A must see performer.” Date The Lawrence House Studio, The Grand Theatre Friday 14 May at 8.00pm Tickets £10.00 (Students £9.00)
