Welcoming and Friendly... OUR NEW DIARY & WHAT’S ON GUIDE
The Grand Theatre is your theatre
and we constantly strive to stay abreast of audience demands to bring the best in popular and classic theatre. Following extensive research, we have embarked upon an ambitious programme of quality drama to complement our ever-eclectic offerings. These productions come from a number of acclaimed companies which include PW Productions’ An Inspector Calls, the National Theatre production of JB Priestley’s classic thriller. The Grand was highly delighted to join the Touring Consortium, and following the success of To Kill a Mocking Bird, the 2012 production is Diary of Anne Frank, a beautifully tender, disturbing and powerful new production. The third of our ‘A’ rated productions is Anne Boleyn from Shakespeare’s Globe and English Touring Theatre, following two sell-out seasons at the Globe, London. A vivid, vibrant, gripping and often humourous performance. Research showed that musicals were amongst our strongest and most supported genres and we are happy to announce the long-awaited return of Annie, and 42nd Street from UK Productions who will again be presenting our pantomime, this year Snow White starring Vicky Entwistle, Steve Royle and Jenny Jones. Advance notice also of a very exciting comedy presentation, Birds of a Feather flock to Blackpool in April, starring the original cast; Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph reunite, on stage for the first time! We hope that this journey into high class drama and comedy whets your appetites for future seasons. The Grand has made a large financial commitment to bring you these productions. Please support them. Patrons, I would like to take this opportunity to explain our booking fee policy. The Grand costs approximately £17,000 per week to operate, a figure low in comparison with other theatres of the same scale, nevertheless it is a struggle. Reports of smash box office figures can be misleading. Large scale shows are very expensive to produce and tour. We, as with the majority of receiving theatres, retain a small percentage of the ticket price; this income makes only a contribution to our overheads. In order to offer a high quality and personal service, we have to find ways of funding our costs. The booking fee is a practical way that the theatre can meet these expenses and the upkeep of the building. I look forward to you visiting the Grand Theatre very soon.

This magnificent production boasts sumptuous sets and costumes.
Based on a true story, it tells of the passionate consumptive Violetta. There are many echoes of Verdi’s own life in Traviata and he threw himself into the music. The highlights include the Brindisi, the best known drinking song in opera, the duet Un Di Felice and Violetta’s haunting aria Addio Del Passato.

This stunning play dramatises Anne’s observations of herself and her companions in the most hostile of environments.
Whilst hidden from the German Nazis, with her Jewish family, in a secret annex in Amsterdam, Anne documented her hopes, frustrations and day-to-day experiences in confinement.

From the same team that produced last spring’s sell-out tour of To Kill a Mockingbird comes another classic text.
