// Welcome to the Autumn edition of the Blackpool Culture Hub newsletter. There is a lot of high quality cultural education happening in schools and with young people. Here is a round up of opportunities led by Blackpool Cultural Education Partnership. In Autumn we see the launch of the RSC Associate School Programme with 18 Blackpool schools and the National Theatre Connections Young Company at the Grand. The Blackpool Cultural Citizens will be launched in November with five Blackpool secondary schools. This is a national programme being piloted in Blackpool, Liverpool, London and Birmingham. Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company start meeting again at the Grand on 16th October. The Creative Learning and Arts Award Network meets monthly at the Grand Theatre, for teachers, Arts Award Advisers, artists, all welcome.

// Autumn Adventures with LIGHT // Lightworks Depot Tours Bespoke school group tours are available at the Lightworks Depot – the home of Blackpool Illuminations. Students will discover the history of the Illuminations and receive the opportunity to explore the archive collection, which includes original artwork dating from the 1920s, photographs and diagrams. This is followed by a tour around the depot to learn about the construction and maintenance of the Illuminations pieces. Learn Timehop Young Adult Fiction Festival Over 200 young people from Unity and South Shore were involved in this exciting festival hosted by the Grand and produced by the Wordpool team. Young people took part in writers workshops, writers panels and performances. 40 young people got Bronze Arts Awards in film and creative writing, dance and poetry. // Learn To Dance or perfect your Circus Skills There are lots of opportunities for schools this Autumn at Blackpool Tower. Attractions include the Tower Circus, The Blackpool Tower Eye, The Dungeons and the magnificent Tower Ballroom. All attractions are linked to a wide range of curriculum enrichment sessions, as well as the option to use the Blackpool Tower Writing High Academy resources free of charge on the website. Opportunities include learning circus skills in the 122 year old Tower Circus or learning to dance in the Tower Ballroom with a professional dance teacher. // A Sea Adventure James Wilton Dance Company present Leviathan: inspired by Herman Melville’s novel Moby Dick on Tuesday 8th November. Wilton’s new choreography piece follows a Captain as he attempts to capture the white whale Moby Dick. A blend of athletic dance, martial arts capoeira and partner work. A Curtain Riaser will be performed before the show by students from Edge Hill University. Tickets for groups of 20+ are just £9.50 The Grand Theatre’s renowned pantomime this year is Aladdin and opens 9 Dec and runs until 8 Jan 2017. School group tickets are £12 to £15.50, plus 1 free teacher ticket with 10 tickets purchased. Pantomime Arts Award log book available. Last but not least the incredible RSC First Encounters returns with, The Tempest (Thurs 2 to Sat 4 Mar 2017) - An ideal first experience of Shakespeare. Set on a crazy island swirling with sounds, exiled Duke Prospero uses magic to create a home within the widerness. Fun, fantasy and sorcery collide in this gripping story. Using Shakespeare’s original language this edited version lasts 90 minutes and includes a fully interactive introduction to the world of the play. Suitable for aged 8 and above, Schools tickets just £6.50.

Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company - A new company has now been selected from very talented local dancers.
Tramshed Theatre is a fully inclusive theatre company based in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde which offers performing art workshops to children, young people and adults. All are welcome, no experience is necessary.
In summer this year they worked with Company Chameleon Dance to develop dance technique & creative skills and produce a new outdoor dance performance. During this project, young people achieved 20 Discover 10 Bronze Arts Award. If you are interested in any of the Arts Award projects delivered by Blackpool Council Arts Service or want to discuss future opportunities, contact arts.development@blackpool.gov.uk.
