DANCE

DANCE COURSES

The movement is melodic; the form is polished and controlled. Whether engaged in a routine or improvisation, the dancer is expressive and rhythmic. There are hundreds of dance styles performed throughout the world, many of which represent the culture that gave birth to them. Whatever the style, the body and mind couple to form movement, exibility, and emotion‌ which then echoes through the dancer and into the performance.

Shakespeare as a Second Language Shakespeare really is like learning a foreign language, but when you spend a little time with it, you really start understanding things within the content of the dialogue. Come dally in an hour and a half workshop, diving into the surface of Taming of the Shrew and King Lear. You will learn a bit about the Bard of Avon, and a bit about saying Shakespeare like it should be said. Not only will you learn, but you will most likely laugh at the comedy of the Shrew, and cry at the tragedy of the King. This class meets once. Instructor: Location:

CERAMICS

CERAMICS COURSES

Recognized as one of the most ancient art forms, ceramic practices have been reported to date back to the third millenium B.C. Primitive ceramic wares were constructed of ground bone and ďŹ ne clay-like material. Today, artists use a wider range of ceramic bodies including earthenware, stoneware, and kaolin to produce their work. This three-dimensional medium can form numerous end products, such as sculptures, vessels, and ďŹ gurines.

Brooke Cashion, Ceramics Instructor Initially drawn to pottery by the raw and earthy qualities of clay in high school, Brooke Cashion continued her exploration of ceramics in Stockton at the University of the Pacific. There, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics and currently works under Professor Trent Burkett as a Studio and Teacher Assistant. Brooke’s work focuses on functionality and is very interested in how function dictates the aesthetic properties of objects and fixtures in our everyday life. However, her work is energized by the potential of art merged with craft to uplift a functional pot to something more. In short, she believes the artistic qualities of pottery can open up a communication between the artist and user; providing a sense of community that can result in local ties between business and consumers, developing accountable relationships. This type of community is one that Brooke wants to encourage. Through teaching ceramics, art can become more accessible to the public and create local ties within a community.

Youth Sculpture – Scouts Merit Badge This class will fulfill the requirements for the Boys Scouts of America Sculpture Merit Badge. Each student will make a life size human head. Each student that wishes to complete and earn the merit badge will need to do some research on their own or with the help of a parent or guardian. This class is taught by a B.S.A. Merit Badge Counselor of Sculpture for the Greater Yosemite Council. Ann Pfau Langley Ceramics Studio
