DECEMBER 2014 EXHIBITIONS SHOWING 6TH DECEMBER UNTIL 3RD JANUARY 2014

THE BIG BANG RECOGNITION SUSAN TAYLOR

THE BIG BANG A powerful collection of new paintings by artist Patrick Astwood. Patrick Astwood is a Bath based painter whose journey as a self-taught artist begun 24 years ago when a speculative and na誰ve flirtation with surrealist collages awakened a previously dormant impulse for creative self-expression. Describing this moment as his creative 'big bang' Patrick embarked on a journey that would encompass a number of abstract and figurative styles, as well as photography and film. After a lull of several years, Patrick Astwood has rediscovered his passion for painting with series of powerful acrylic pieces that detail his current obsession with what he calls 'pure colour'. Patrick says; 'Colour is the basis of everything we see, think and even feel and yet we often take it for granted, these new pieces are an attempt to immerse the viewer back into an intense world of colour and form and to ultimately celebrate the place colour has in all our lives'.

RECOGNITION Solo exhibition of figurative works by painter Liane Stevenson. Over the last couple of years I have returned to the figure for my subject matter. This has been an absorbing and, at times, frustrating experience and I feel I have barely scratched the surface. Although I am striving for some kind of likeness I have neither the ability, or interest in achieving photographic realism, but rather some element of the subject that speaks to me. My chosen subjects have so far have been people who are significant to me in some way or those whose features I am intrigued by. I have enjoyed the variety of ways that the human figure can be represented, and hope that the viewer can feel some of the connection that I feel with my subjects.

Her passion for graphic design is evident typography, iconography, bold swathes of colour and a strong structural layout are consistently the focus of her prints.
