LET ME ILLUSTRATE III MOMENTO MORI STREETS, LANES & SKYLINES

LET ME ILLUSTRATE III In February 2015 the Grant Bradley Gallery presents its third exhibition dedicated to contemporary illustration: Let Me Illustrate III. The show represents illustration sourced from a selection of the best illustrators currently working in the region. Since the advent of the printed word, illustration has been an important tool for a great variety of industries. From commercial products that want to stand out from their competition to complex articles that are aided by the visual distillation of their concepts, the wealth of knowledge available to us and the overwhelming amount of visual imagery encountered on a daily basis means that illustration serves an increasingly important role in capturing our attention. The exhibition promises to be a diverse, varied collection in traditional and digital media of commercial and noncommercial work.

MOMENTO MORI Joachim was born in Bavaria, South Germany and started professionally sculpturing at the young age of 15. In 2008 he was announced Winner of the Championship of Wood Sculpture in Southern Germany. He's been based in bristol since 2012 exhibiting in galleries nationally as well as internationally. In his work Joachim loves to fathom the unreal and the dream like as well as the deepness of the unconsciousness, and to dilate via the fantasy, absurdism and especially the melancholy. His works stimulate melancholic thoughts and show the viewer the importance of living in the now. As a viewer, your mind marvels at the complex scenes before you, so much going on and so much symbolism intertwined in the beautiful imaginativeness of Joachim's work. His sculptures are mostly mounted in deep, dark frames, which give the viewer a sense that the sculptures live in their own world, undisturbed by the goings on around them.

STREETS, LANES & SKYLINES After returning to live in her hometown of Bristol in 2012, Susie began exhibiting and selling her work locally in 2013. A landscape and cityscene specialist she works in a variety of mediums, ranging from large scale oil paintings to pen and ink postcard sketches. This 'Streets, lanes and skylines' exhibition presents a series of new pen and watercolour paintings of Bristol's old city and harbourside. Drawn to the city's hidden streets and architecture contrasting against the sky, Susie travels around by bike, on foot and by water capturing new perspectives of the city in sketchform to then work up as full paintings in her studio. Alongside this new work, her Bristol Winter, Spring and Summer series is exhibited for the first time in pen, watercolour and acrylic.
