SCAN

SCAN (Somerset Contemporary Artists' Network) was created in 2009 to help and encourage emerging artists. Some of the original group are now well established and able to offer support to the more recent recruits. On this occasion twenty members will be exhibiting work including: bold, colourful abstracts, large landscapes, delicately painted oils using egg tempera, etchings and screenprints, sculptures, porcelain, glass, weaving and much more. With such variety the group hopes that every visitor will find something to catch their attention and intrigue them. This vibrant and stimulating mix of work will offer an opportunity for the discerning collector to discover new talent while enjoying the work of names they may know already.

VIVACITY

Life, energy, vitality, exuberance! These words encapsulate what has always been my favourite subject; 'Life', subjects that share with us some emotion that we recognize (albeit not always openly). Until I moved to Bristol in 1999, most of my works were portraits, capturing expressions, mainly in graphite pencil or charcoal. Then I became engaged with the local art community and followed several courses at the Bristol School of Art. Since then, my focus turned to exploring and experimenting with colour, subject matter, technique and different materials. To this day, my favourite subject remains ‘life’, preferably in action! Colour, dance and (inter)actions can make us feel so alive. For this exhibition I was inspired to explore this theme and share with you just some of this vivacity, which is all around us, children, adults and animals alike.

THE FOUR SEASONS

I am currently living in England, but originate from China. During my early school days I took a course to be qualified in the study of Art. It was during my time at university when I exhibited my first paintings. By day I work as an engineer at Airbus, but I spend a lot of time after work painting in oil, watercolour, traditional chinese painting and calligraphy. Recently I visited an art gallery and I was inspired to paint. This is my second exhibition. My collection is focused on the four seasons. This is an interpretation of different cultures and universes concerning feelings, dreams and nature.
