Plans for a Prosperous 2013 Continued from page 1 “Our” is the most important word in that statement; it’s our community that we choose to have our business or residence. The Chamber board developed a strategic plan several years ago that provides the base line program of work for the Chamber. Each area is designed to help member businesses grow within the community. The primary goal of your board will be to continue to develop and execute through the strategic plan. It is important to continue the great work of past boards and constantly move the ball forward. The Chamber staff has outstanding leadership and drive to help member businesses be successful. Utilize this team to help you grow your companies. Membership feedback is important, and I encourage you as an investor

in the Chamber to provide your feedback and thoughts to myself or any member of the Chamber board or staff. We value your thoughts and ideas. The Chamber offers so many different areas to be involved. One of the greatest in my opinion is networking. Blagg Tire & Service benefits greatly from the ability to network with so many businesses and individuals through Chamber events. This is a huge value for Blagg Tire. We are blessed with many of you as customers and friends. To get the most of your Chamber membership it is important to be involved; so take advantage of monthly luncheons with great speakers, networking groups, Chambers Ambassadors who welcome new members, ribbons cuttings, Women’s Division, mixers, monthly information

A Look at the YEA! Program SPONSORS:

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), the 33-week program making business owners out of middle school and high school students, has progressed 1/3 of the way through the course. The future business owners have successfully established their unique business idea, learned what goes into a business plan from the four instructors, written drafts of their business plans, gone on fieldtrips to local businesses and met with their Mentors for one-on-one guidance on taking their business plan to the next level. The businesses cover a wide variety of industries. Some of the businesses include custom cakes and desserts, artistic notecards, flavored pickles, portable hail cover for cars and a fashion advice app. And that is just a small sample of the more than 14 businesses coming out of this year’s class. It is exciting to see the passion and enthusiasm the students have for their businesses. Blake Godkin, a consulting futurist & strategist and one of the instructors said, “I’m continually impressed by these young business owners and their ability to understand and implement principles of entrepreneurship that even more experienced business leaders still can’t seem to grasp.” The remaining 2/3 of the YEA! Program will have the students finalizing their business plans and preparing a six-minute presentation for the Investors Panel where the students will present their business ideas to receive start-up capital. They will be awarded real dollars to apply towards their business’ start-up costs. After the Investors Panel, the businesses will prepare for a trade show in May where they will sell their finalized goods and services. It is not too late to get involved in the YEA! Program. There are opportunities for graphic designers, web developers and sponsors. If you are interested in being a part of the YEA! Program, contact Michael Miori at (817) 481-1522 or Michael@ GrapevineChamber.org.

Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division

The Women’s Division is proud to have delivered Christmas Spirit presents, household goods and some spending money to 87 disadvantaged senior citizens in Grapevine. Idell Bowker and her committee did an excellent job of organizing the delivery and the many members and helpers. We’d like to thank all the generous individuals that picked up a gift ornament and took that extra effort to purchase a “wish” for our recipients. We’d also like to thank the Girl Scouts from North Richland Hills that very enthusiastically helped load cars with gifts and then went on to make some deliveries themselves. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, all of our ornaments received Christmas Spirit!

Win Money for Attending the Luncheon! Those in attendance for the October luncheon saw the “Must Be Present to Win” drawing continue its climb. With Christina Mistry from Prudential Worldwide Realtors not in attendance the drawing gained another $50 and now sits at $900. Each month at the luncheon, the drawing will grow as long as the person whose name is called is not in attendance. All you have to do is show up! How easy is that? All Chamber members’ names are in the drawing, sponsored by the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. Cash in on your membership investment by attending the monthly luncheon for your chance to win!

Promote Your Business by Hosting a Business After Hours Mixer Have you ever wanted your restaurant or business flooded with customers all eager to network at your location? Then you should consider hosting a Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Mixer. Our mixers have an attendance of 75-100 people, and attendees pay for their drinks. The host business provides appetizers and is welcome to share about their business with everyone in attendance. Business After Hours Mixers are promoted to the membership via email and online. With the new year arriving, think about hosting a Business After Hours Mixer to market your business to your fellow Chamber members. Interested?
