The Chamber Luncheon Goes to the Dogs, February 16 The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce is proud to have Canine Companions for Independence speak at the next Membership Luncheon, February 16, at the Grapevine Convention Center, sponsored by LegacyTexas and catered by Dickey’s BBQ Restaurant & Catering. Lacey Wicks, Volunteer & Event Coordinator, and graduates of Canine Companions for Independence will share about the impact the organization has had enhancing the lives of those who receive their highly trained assistance dogs. Lacey will discuss

how the organization works to enhance the lives of people with disabilities, and the organization’s graduates will tell the story of their experience. Canine Companions provides expertly trained assistance dogs to children, adults and veterans with disabilities. Established in 1975 in California, Canine Companions is the largest non-profit provider of assistance dogs in the United States. The organization is recognized worldwide for the excellence of its dogs and quality and longevity of the matches it makes between dogs and people. The result is a life of increased independence and loving companionship.

Canine Companions places four types of assistance dogs: • Service dogs for adults with physical disabilities • Skilled companions for children with emotional, development or physical disabilities who need the help of a training assistance or guardian • Hearing dogs for individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing • Facility dogs for professionals to help promote healing and facilitate therapy for patients, students or residents in their care Assistance dogs serve people with a wide range of disabilities, Continued on page 2

Your Grapevine Chamber of Commerce is off to a fast start in 2017! In December 2016, your Board of Directors held its annual retreat and goal setting. This allowed us to go full steam ahead into the new year. We also welcomed five new members to the Board of Directors who are sure to bring fresh ideas and

Some of the key goals and areas of focus in 2017 include a Best Practice Visit to another 5-Star Accredited Chamber, executing the 2017 DFW Veterans Summit & Procurement Fair in February, finalizing a plan for the Chamber building and associated land, completing repairs to the Chamber concession

Grapevine Community Award Graduates from Institute for Nominees Honored, Feb. 9 Organization Management In January, Michael Miori, IOM, Director of Business Development, for the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, graduated from the Institute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and received the recognition of IOM. Awarded to all graduates of the Institute program, the IOM Graduate Recognition signifies the individual’s completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management. “Institute graduates are recognized across the country as leaders in their industries and organizations,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s vice president of Institute for Organization Management. “These individuals have the knowledge, skills, and dedication necessary to achieve professional and organizational success in the dynamic association and chamber industries.” Since its commencement in 1921, the Institute program has been educating tens of thousands of association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders on how to build stronger organizations, better serve their members and become strong business advocates. Institute’s curriculum consists of four weeklong sessions at five different university locations throughout the country. Through a combination of required courses and electives in areas such as leadership, advocacy, marketing, finance, and membership, Institute participants are able to enhance their own organizational management skills and add new fuel to their organizations, making them run more efficiently and effectively. Institute for Organization Management is the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. It is the premier nonprofit professional development program for association and chamber professionals, fostering individual growth through interactive learning and networking opportunities.

Must Be Present to Win!

It is with great pleasure that we are introducing our latest venture to you - the 2017 Dallas/Fort Worth Veterans Summit & Procurement Fair, Feb. 22, 8:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m., at the Grapevine Convention Center. In partnership with Lockheed Martin, we will be offering the opportunity for our community to “Do Business With Big Business.” Come out and meet those that BUY for major businesses. The participating companies are an elite group that we would like you to get to know. One of the most exciting components of the Procurement Fair is “Live Matchmaking.” You will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with three companies of your choice that you’d like to do business with. These are major corporations! Simply bring 3 business cards with you, and we will slot you in between 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Doors open that morning at 8:30 a.m. In addition, there is an opportunity for you to exhibit. If you buy products and services from small businesses, you are welcome to sign up as an exhibitor. Representatives from the major corporations and government entities will be visiting every booth space. Space is limited so you will want to act swiftly. We sincerely look forward to your participation, and we thank you in advance for your support of this economic development project! Learn more about this unique event, see exhibitor and attendee pricing, and check out the schedule for the day by going to www. GrapevineChamber.org and click on “Procurement Fair.” RaDonna Hessel Grapevine Chamber CEO

Those present at the January Membership Luncheon saw the “Must Be Present to Win” Drawing continue its climb, with Royal Farris of Life Connection Church not in attendance. The prize is now up to $850 for February. Each month at the Chamber’s Membership Luncheon, the drawing grows as long as the person whose name is called is not in attendance. To win, all you have to do is show up and hear your name be called! How easy is that? All Chamber members are eligible to win, thanks to the sponsorship from First Financial Bank, NA.

Community News Congratulations to Michael O. Browning, CEO of Urban Air Trampoline & Adventure Parks, for being named the winner in the Retail Services category of the Entrepreneur of Excellence Awards. Looking Forward to a Great 2017 Last year was an exciting year for the Women’s Division, and we could not have done it without the wonderful leadership of our 2016 Chair, Karen Deakin. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Karen for your tireless efforts in leading us as we introduced two new fundraising events and expanded our membership to 97 members. It was a job well done and a great year for the Women’s Division. As we look forward to 2017, we want to welcome all the new members to the Grapevine Chamber. I encourage you to get involved in some capacity. If you are not familiar with the Women’s Division, we began in 1965 to help serve the Grapevine Chamber and help make Grapevine a wonderful community. Today, our focus is on assisting students in GCISD with school supplies and providing Christmas gifts and necessities to senior citizens within the community. We are always looking for additional opportunities to serve others and to give back to our community. I would like to invite anyone interested in the Women’s Division to join us February 21, at 11:45 a.m., at Cowboys Golf Club for our monthly Membership Luncheon. This particular meeting will focus on recruiting new members, discussing ways to get involved and highlighting all the ways the organization impacts the community. Space is limited, so please RSVP on the Chamber website or contact Alisa Runge at alisarunge@ gmail.com or (817) 875-6177. Cost for the luncheon is $20. In addition, mark your calendars for the 22nd Annual Great Taste of Grapevine, March 30, at the Courtyard/TownePlace Suites by Marriott, located at 2200 Bass Pro Dr. in Grapevine. This is a fun evening to enjoy great food from more than 20 local restaurants. If you are interested in participating or sponsoring this event, please contact Casey Maxfield at Casey.Maxfield@frostbank.com. I am very excited about 2017, and it should be another great year for the Women’s Division! I am honored and humbled to be part of this group of hard working, service oriented ladies. Please contact me with any questions or if you are interested in getting involved with the Women’s Division.
