A Message from Your Chamber CEO
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives Conference in Bryan- College Station. Besides the educational, motivational and relevant topic programming, the annual statewide media awards are presented. Due to the work and efforts of your Board and our wonderful members, your Grapevine
Chamber of Commerce has grown and now falls into the same category as the largest chambers in Texas including Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Irving and the Houston Partnership, among many others. What that means is that our programs, products and services are being judged against Chambers that have budgets of $1 million and up. That is a great challenge to continue to improve what we do, with the ultimate goal provided by our Board to become the BEST Chamber!

I was proud this year to receive on behalf of our Chamber, the 1st Place Media Award for Social Media for large Chambers. Your Board, through their strategic planning in 2011 under Chairman Angela Mitcham, created a focus on technology, recognizing that, while we will always value face to face networking, programs and projects, the future of business would expand greatly through technology and the turn toward Social Media. A Message from Your Chamber CEO Continued from page 1 goals included the technology in the Chamber office, with keeping our computers and software up to date, along with our website and database systems that had to be brought into the 21st century. To make sure that those pieces served our businesses, we also took the additional step to hire William Moore to develop and to continue to grow our presence in the wonderful world of the Internet. Will was the one who deserves much of the credit for not only creating our Social Media plan, but he also works it every day. He has also been not only a staff member for you, but a friend who truly wants to help all of our businesses learn how easy it is for our members to take advantage of the systems we have in place! Next time you see Will in the office or at an event, congratulate him for a job that continues to be well done! Your Chamber staff and Board of Directors continue with their efforts to become the BEST Chamber. We encourage everyone to be a part of this effort by taking advantage of the technology tools we have available, provide feedback on these efforts and to encourage fellow business owners and managers to become an active partner in building your Chamber of Commerce and strengthen our business community! Business Insight Series Continues July 18 with Judy Hoberman In Judy’s session, you will learn: • Why concentrating on women can be a source of unending referrals • The basic communication differences between men and women • The importance of recognizing these differences and how to embrace and use those differences as assets • The value of asking the right questions • The importance of building relationships in cross gender selling
The Chamber’s Business Insight Series continues July 18, with guest speaker Judy Hoberman on the topic: Women Mean Business. Women Mean Business - It actually has a double meaning. The more women you sell to, the more business there is, and the more women on the team, the stronger it is because WOMEN MEAN BUSINESS! The world is changing and so is our economy. One that was once based on transactions has morphed into one based on relationships. Whether you are a man in business or selling to women, or a woman selling to or being sold to, we are all working with a market that influences over 85% of all consumer purchasing decisions… WOMEN! No matter how much we fight change, today’s business model needs to do just that…change!
Judy Hoberman, President of Selling in a Skirt, has created a suite of workshops, seminars and coaching programs that take the negativity out of selling. Her 30 years in sales has given her both the knowledge and sense of humor about the gender differences, something that everyone should understand and embrace, instead of feeling unable to communicate. The Business Insight Series will be at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, with check-in and registration from 7:30 – 8 a.m. and the program from 8 – 9:30 a.m. Registration is required, and the cost is $15 for Grapevine Chamber members and $20 for nonmembers. Register online on the Chamber’s Events Calendar or call (817) 481-1522.

Things Are Heating Up In July For Women’s Division... Well, not exactly heating up, but we are definitely preheating the oven for some exciting things coming up in the last half of 2014! On Saturday, August 9, from 9 a.m. 12 p.m., we will be partnering with CONNECT at the Back- to- School Fair at Grapevine High School to distribute more than 700 school supply packs to GCISD students! They will also have opportunities to get immunizations, get gift cards to shoe stores and much more! If you would like more information on volunteering with the Women’s Division you can contact Karen Deakin at karendeakin@sbcglobal.net. If you would like to learn more about the CONNECT group, you can visit their website, www.connectgcisd.org. Other big news for the Women’s Division is that we have selected a new venue and date for the HOLIDAY HOEDOWN! This event will be held at Austin Ranch on Friday, November 14. We are SUPER EXCITED about the venue change as well as the date moved up earlier in the season. There is already so much going on in Grapevine during Christmas time, so the Women’s Division decided to be the first to start celebrating and fundraising during the holidays! Our Holiday Hoedown Co-Chairs are BJ Wilson, Shelley Ruddick and Janice Kane - all longtime Women’s Division leaders and Anniversary Ball past chairs. I believe this year’s event is going to be EPIC, so put it on your calendar today! FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14 at AUSTIN RANCH!!!! If you are interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Toni Barron at tbarron@impactnews.com. We will have a ton of sponsorship opportunities and will be letting you know the details very soon! Thanks for reading my article, and if you are the first person to text me at (682) 551-6824 to let me know the date of the Holiday Hoedown, I have a $25 gift card to the Chamber member restaurant of your choice!
A little bit of Women’s Division History: Did you know that the Women of the Women’s Division donated trees and shrubbery to the city of Grapevine to be planted at the corner of Main St. and Texas St.?
