A Challenge from Your CEO I have a few challenges for you. No, it’s not weight loss or picking the games that the Texas Rangers might have a chance of winning for the remainder of the season. It’s really pretty simple… The First Challenge is that the next time you need a product or service for your home or business, look either at the online or printed Chamber directory for

a company who is listed along with you as a member investor of the Grapevine Chamber. Just like you, these companies are giving back to the community where they do business, providing their time, money and often times their talents to work with you on committees, at local festivals, and in many other ways to make Grapevine even greater. We all get into habits of “googling” (or whatever search engine you use) to find what you need, or you go back to perhaps a business

you used in the past. However, by taking an extra step to look at your fellow Chamber members, you are supporting someone who in the future may support you. Invite them to a Membership Luncheon, Business After Hours Mixer, Golf Classic, Casino Night, Women’s Division Luncheon or the Economic Development Partnership Meeting to see the amazing business people they can create relationships and do business with. Or just send them the application and share with them that it will be the least expensive form of advertisement that they can find, being listed 24/7 on the Chamber’s website, printed in directories that are sent to Chamber members, as well as in relocation packets all year long. With the membership investment of only $265 - $840, they never even have to attend a meeting or event, and additionally they can post jobs, events, and Hot Deals from their computer to add additional value with no additional cost. Also, as our next Texas

legislative season will soon begin, our combined voice on business issues will most definitely be needed to protect and build our business climate! While visiting with someone recently, he was thanking me for his membership. It came from the array of people he had met from the President of GameStop at an Economic Development meeting to the President of Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine (recently recognized as one of the top 25 hospitals in Texas by the way!) at a luncheon. That made me smile, because he didn’t realize that people feel the same way about meeting him. It is such a privilege to be working with each of you for Grapevine. You are what make Grapevine and the Grapevine Chamber so special; working together, developing relationship and especially friendships. Providing help and answers when needed, lending a hand to make things happen and sharing your knowledge in business makes you a leader in our community every day, and I challenge you to help us continue to grow!

It’s a Busy Summer in the Women’s Division! August is definitely heating up at the Women’s Division! Some of the highlights this month are the Back to School Fair at Grapevine High School, Saturday, August 9, from 9 a.m. - 1p.m., where we will be a part of something so great for our school district! We align with the CONNECT group to distribute school supply packs for area students that otherwise would not have their supplies for the 1st day of school. You can call me a nerd, but I loved loved loved getting all of my school supplies together and carefully writing my name on each item (especially the pencil box!). That is part of the reason that I think this program is so special to me! We are helping make sure that more than 1,000 students go to school with the right tools in hand every year since the 1980s! A quote from the CONNECT website pretty much sums up the heart of this program that Women’s Division has been carrying the torch on for many years: “Whether in kindergarten or 12th grade, when a student shows up to school without the basic necessities, they often feel lost, stigmatized and like they don’t belong. This often leads to poor performance and eventually puts them at risk for dropping out. A lack of basic school supplies can create ‘clouds of inferiority in their mental skies,’ to borrow a phrase from Martin Luther King Jr.”
