Education and Charity - Moving the Grapevine Chamber Forward Education. Charity. These concepts have been a part of your Grapevine Chamber for decades. I estimate that nearly every member of the Chamber has participated, in one way or another, in the educational or charitable projects of the Chamber, such as Leadership Grapevine, the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) or the School Supply Drives or Holiday Spirit programs hosted by the Women’s Division. Our commitment to these programs truly enhances our
mission. Not only do these programs further our mission, but they truly put into action the committed and collaborative relationship between the Chamber, Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, City of Grapevine, local businesses, social service organizations and our members, all in an effort to improve the economic, civic and cultural wellbeing of our community. Despite successes in the name of charity and education, the Chamber has encountered roadblocks to outside funding and servicing of these programs, mainly because the Chamber, being a section 501(c)(6)

organization, is not a public charity and is not able to accept charitable contributions. Because of this, some corporate donors are hesitant (if not prohibited) from funding or providing volunteers to support to these programs. To better serve the Chamber and the business community, your Chamber Board authorized the incorporation of the Grapevine Chamber Foundation as a charitable “arm” of the Chamber. On Feb. 28, 2013, the Foundation was officially incorporated, and on Aug. 1, 2013, the Internal Revenue Service determined that the Continued on page 2

Education and Charity - Moving the Grapevine Chamber Forward Continued from page 1 Foundation is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. YEA! (or Yeah!). The purposes of the Foundation are to facilitate charitable and educational programs aimed to benefit the greater northeast Tarrant County area. The Foundation will be governed by a Board of Directors consisting of community representatives and directors appointed from your Chamber Board. The overlap of governance will help ensure the vision and mission of the Chamber is in line with the charitable mission and vision of the Foundation. As an example of the impact we expect from our Foundation, the Foundation’s Board, in conjunction
with your Chamber Board and some members of the Women’s Division, constituted the Kathee Livengood Memorial Scholarship Committee and Scholarship Fund, known as “Kathee’s Kitty”. Kathee’s Kitty exists to memorialize longtime community leader, Kathee Livengood, and more importantly to afford scholarship opportunities to qualified and deserving women in the Greater Tarrant County area. Kathee’s Kitty will hold its first scholarship fundraiser on September 5, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Cross Timbers Winery (805 N. Main). You are welcomed and encouraged to attend this inaugural event and fundraiser. By creating the Grapevine
Chamber Foundation, this venture ensures that the long-standing charitable and educational programs of the Chamber may receive maximum support and can give maximum benefit to both contributors and beneficiaries, hopefully without unnecessary funding constraints or volunteer limitations, but certainly to further promote business and community growth while enhancing and maintaining the quality of life. Stay tuned as your Chamber continues to move forward. Best regards, Perry Leonard President/COO Blagg Tire & Service

Leadership Breakfast Series Mastering Sales Leadership
The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce 2013 Leadership Breakfast Series sponsored by Lead It 2 Win It® continues September 27 at Cowboys Golf Club with Dr. Edward Lewellen speaking on the topic Mastering Sales Leadership. This series is open to all Chamber members and designed for individual employees, managers or business owners who are interested in improving or developing their overall leadership skills. In leadership, especially sales leadership, there is a need for qualities, characteristics, talents and skills that cause others to follow and, as a whole, find success. However, here’s the reality, if you had an 11-person team… • Only 4 of 11 players would know which goal was theirs • Only 2 of 11 would care • Only 2 of 11 would know what position they play and what their role is • 9 of 11 would, in some way, be competing against their own team, instead of the opponent How do you change these statistics to be in your favor? What skills and traits must you possess? What beliefs must change? In this lively discussion, you’ll find out how to get motivated, inspired, and strategic about leading your sales beyond mediocre and into the exceptional! Dr. Edward Lewellen is President of Ed Lewellen Enterprises and Transformative Thinking. Dr. Lewellen is an Executive and Master Life Coach with a benefit few others with his business background have to offer; he is also a Master Hypnotist! With the recent discoveries of Neuroscience supporting what hypnosis is able to do for people stuck in limiting beliefs, along with hurts, habits and hang-ups, this is a proven tool to assist you on the road to success. Dr. Lewellen has coined a very special term for his work with business executives called Coachnosis, combining Executive/Life Coaching with hypnosis to get results in hours, instead of months! Make plans to join us! Doors open at 8 a.m., and the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. Register online at the Chamber’s Events’ Page or contact the Chamber at (817) 481-1522. Cost is $15. Questions? Contact Michael Miori, Director of Program Development, at Michael@GrapevineChamber.org

Chamber CEO, RaDonna Hessel, One of 21 in Nation to Earn CCE The American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) has designated RaDonna Hessel, CEO of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, Certified Chamber Executive (CCE). The CCE is the only national certification for Chamber professionals. The announcement was made July 24 at ACCE’s annual convention in Oklahoma City. “The applicants who are designated CCEs rightfully earn this outstanding recognition through hard work, countless hours of dedication to their field, and leadership of their Chambers. We applaud this year’s recipients and are proud to have them join a long tradition of professional excellence,” says Raymond Burns, CCE, president and CEO of Rogers - Lowell Area (Ark.) Chamber of Commerce and CCE Commission Chairman. Hessel was one of 21 Chamber executives in the nation who earned the CCE designation this year. The CCE program is designed to assess and test the applicant’s knowledge of the core Chamber management areas: management, planning and development, membership and communication and operations. Candidates are required to submit an application outlining their professional achievements and activities, write two essays, make a formal presentation, complete an intensive interview by a panel of CCEs and pass a comprehensive four-hour examination. Since the program was initiated more than 40 years ago, approximately 530 individuals have earned this highest designation in the profession. Today there are about 270 active CCEs. Hessel, CEO of the Grapevine Chamber since June of 2008, has served in five different communities around the state of Texas since 1990. She has completed the Institute for Organizational Management at SMU and the Oklahoma University, graduating in 1997, and she is currently attending Northwood University to expand her education. Professionally, Hessel currently serves on the Executive Board of the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executive’s Association (TCCE), the oldest State Chamber organization in the United States, and she will be the Chairman of TCCE in 2018. Hessel also serves on the Board of the North Texas Chamber of Commerce Executive’s Association (NTCCEA), of which she was the President in 2008. In 2007 and 2008, she served on the Board for the Texas Association of Businesses, and Hessel has also served an advisory position for the Northwood University ESPM program. Additionally, Hessel has served as a planning facilitator for numerous Chambers and other non-profit organizations and assisted various Chambers in their search for a President. Established in 1914, the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (www.acce.org) is the only national association serving the professional development needs of Chamber professionals throughout the United States and Canada. Representing more than 7,000 individuals, ACCE enhances the knowledge, leadership skills, and management effectiveness of chamber executives and their staff through education, benefits programs, trend analysis, benchmarking, and network development. ACCE supports and develops chamber professionals to lead businesses and their communities.

Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division
Thanks for your help so we can continue to help the community. We are so appreciative of the support of fellow Chamber members and others in the community as well as outside Grapevine for support of our fundraising programs – Great Taste of Grapevine and our holiday party the HoHoHoeDown. It’s because of this support that we were able to provide 1231 pre-packaged School Supply kits to underserved Kindergarten through Middle School children in the GCISD. The overall need was considerably greater this year and fortunately CONNECT was able to provide funds so that the High School students could be provided for as well. We had so much fun at the Back to School Fair handing out the school supply packs and sharing in the excitement of the children as they prepared for the 2013/14 school year. Their excitement was contagious! The Women’s Division also continued a long standing tradition of supporting the new educators in GCISD by providing a small sponsorship for the New Educators Luncheon. The Women’s Division started this event in 1965 – we called it the New Teachers Luncheon – and although the GCISD Education Foundation has taken over the reins for the event, we are still excited to be able to participate in a small way. There are still lots of exciting events happening in the Women’s Division for the remainder of the year. Plans are now underway for our holiday fundraiser, the HoHoHoeDown. This event is tons of fun eating, dancing and raffling all to support our school children and our senior citizens with our
Women’s Division projects. Make sure Thursday, December 19th is marked on your calendar for this fabulous event. We are also in the planning stages for our Christmas Spirit program in which we provide holiday gifts for under-served senior citizens and disabled in Grapevine. We will soon put our Santa’s helper hats on and be off to interview those folks for the Angel Tree that we facilitate for the community as well. We had a great time at our August luncheon. The venue was fabulous – thanks so much to Cross Timbers Winery for hosting us, providing a very tasty lunch and for our program. It was great to learn a little bit about the winery. Please join us for our luncheon on Tuesday, September 17th. We will be back in the Community Room on the 3rd floor of the Stacy Furniture building. We meet at 11:45 am. Our program will be Lisa Rose with Gatehouse, the new transitional housing facility for women. Our luncheon sponsor will be Shonda Schaefer with GRACE. To RSVP for the August luncheon, please contact Casey Hege at 682-551-6824 or casey@boxinsurance.com.
