Walking through the COVID19 Crisis

During the crisis most organised walks have been cancelled but we can still enjoy the pleasures of a country walk PROVIDED we avoid the busy places, such as the main Malvern car parks and provided we keep two metres apart from anyone else.
So here are some suggestions: t The Ledbury bookshops have plenty of excellent books of local walks
t The bookshops also supply your local Ordnance Survey maps. Get the Explorer 1:25000 series and plan your own walk. Ledbury is annoyingly right on the corner of three OS maps but you could get your own map centred on your own home by visiting the Ordnance Survey website and searching for custom-made maps.
t There’s masses of material online – www. herefordshireramblers.org.uk has lots of walks under the “our walks” tabs
t www.ramblers.org.uk has a fine series of walks under ramblersroutes
t You can get apps for your phone such as Alltrails with lots of local walks
t Get the ViewRanger app and download some premium map “tiles” wherever you want to walk. With ViewRanger and other apps, like the OS app, you will get a GPS locator so you will always know where you are. However if you are using an app, do make sure you have a fully charged phone when you start and have a paper map back-up. And remember smartphones really do not like rain, so a waterproof case is a good idea.
