The Shop at Bromsberrow
The Shop At Bromsberrow RE-LAUNCH
The Community Shop is now into its seventh year which is a tribute to loyal customers and our band of volunteers.

We have received support from the Plunkett Foundation, of which we are members, who provided a “Health Check” and this helped us focus on the necessary improvements. The last, but one, was to radically update the shop and in particular enclose the first half of the shop to provide a more intimate and warmer atmosphere. The cafe has also received a makeover and a new name – ‘The Snug’.
We had planned to celebrate this achievement in April but, as
we are all very aware, Covid19 struck and all events had to be cancelled/postponed until this very serious pandemic was over. This has obviously affected many of the events we had planned, which is a great disappointment to us but we had no choice.
The improvements were timely as our trade, in the emergency, is three times greater and we now offer a comprehensive range of fresh local fruit, vegetables and meat. We have reduced our opening hours to allow us to provide a delivery service to those who are housebound. This delivery service has been well received and now accounts for a third of our activity. Our amended opening hours are shown in our advert, with website details and how to contact us.
‘The Snug’ had to close but once we get the all clear to open again, we will be offering a range of hot and cold drinks, together with snacks in congenial surroundings. We have also had to temporarily close the Post Office, usually open two mornings a week, and Shabby Chic (French period furniture, artefacts and more modern retro items).
We are (in normal times) a Community Hub using ‘The Snug’ for Community Groups and a popular meeting point for walkers and cyclists. Last year we initiated regular Community Lunches which were well supported with good food and good company. We are also aware from a recent village survey that there are other needs (e.g. lack of mobility, loneliness etc.) and we aim to address these issues.
We will be doing the research to see what would be welcomed and utilised here – and we now have plenty of time to look at all these things!!
So what is the last thing we need to do and how could you help us? We will need more members and volunteers once we are fully up and running again. If you like what we do and what we provide why not become a member? This can be done for as little as £1, although you can pay more. This would show your commitment to the community and allow us to demonstrate that what we provide is appreciated and supported in our community. We offer a range of opportunities to volunteers of all ages, whether it is learning new skills or working in good company. Call Marie, our manager, to discuss.
