Introductions & Background to RVJ&B and Festival Yes, it’s 45 years since the last Jazz Festival based in Clitheroe. Humphrey Lyttleton’s Band played in a marquee on what now is the Castle Skate Park. So isn’t it about time we had another Festival? Well, here it is! From Friday 30th April to Monday 3rd May, over a Bank Holiday weekend, you, your family and friends can spend a great weekend in Ribble Valley, watching, listening and participating in live jazz music. We have put together an excellent programme of top class jazz catering for all tastes. Take your pick - If you’re looking for superb jazz vocals, the best in modern jazz, commanding big band & swing, or cool dinner jazz, you will get it all at Ribble Valley Jazz Festival - top UK stars, gems from the North, and a taste of the future with aspiring young jazz musicians. And, the Festival takes place in beautiful Ribble Valley in some excellent venues. We will give you concerts at The Grand - Clitheroe’s superb new arts & music venue - where you can witness the superb vocals of Jacqui Dankworth, Big Band Classics from The Al Wood Big Band and Paul Rigby and the
Northern Jazz Orchestra with contributions from up and coming young jazz musicians from local school swing bands, and an end-of-festival Latin Jazz party presented by Más Y Más. The Grand is also the base for a workshop and a presentation. The Atrium Cafe in Clitheroe Castle grounds, is our venue for trios, quartets and quintets, starring Alan Barnes, Simon Spillett and quite a few more. In between gigs you can walk round Clitheroe’s specialist shops, and take a meal at one or two of our excellent cafes, restaurants and hotels.
