In April 2011 Marius Neset released Golden Xplosion, an album that led to the saxophonist and composer becoming one of the most talked about newcomers on the European jazz scene in recent years.

LUNCHTIME LIVE PRESENTS:

GEORGINA JACKSON QUARTET

Georgina Jackson: Vocals/Trumpet with Dean Masser: Sax & Richard Wetherall Trio.

Date: Friday 3rd May 12noon - 2pm. Doors open 11.15am Venue: The Grand, York Street, Clitheroe BB7 2DL Tickets: £7, Members/Grand Affinity Card Holders £5 Radio 2 Big Band asked Georgina Jackson to perform a tribute show to heroine Peggy Lee last year, highlighting the transformation she has made from trumpet player to singer.

FRIDAY 3 MAY

Brought up on Big Band music, Georgina worked for many years as part of the highly regarded Wigan Jazz Club Band. But she harboured a desire “to wear a posh frock” rather than be the same as “the lads in the band”. Georgina made a dash for the front mike and her career path changed forever. Her first CD, “Till There Was You”, landed her dream job as resident singer with the Ronnie Scotts Jazz

Orchestra, were she performs most months. Last year her long awaited second album “Watch What Happens” was given great acclaim. BBC Radio 2 performances included a duet with the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Steve Vintner Trio. This event is part of The Grand’s Lunchtime Live series. Food is available and can be pre-ordered - extra to admission price. Phone The Grand Box office on 01200 421599 to book. www.georginajackson.net

Hubbard’s Covered is Neil Yates’ 5-piece band covering the life story of one of his heroes, the great trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, from his early days on Blue Note and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in the 60s through his Grammy Award winning early 70s fusion period, his controversially commercialised late 70s albums, and his return to straight ahead jazz in the mid 80s. The band bring back to life some of Hubbard’s classic, now standard compositions like Little Sunflower, Up Jumped Spring, Red Clay, Thermo, Byrdlike, Gibraltar, First Light and Open Sesame. www.neilyates.co.uk
