46th Annual National Walking Horse Trainers’ Show Shelbyville, TN - The 46th Annual National Walking Horse Trainers’ Show was held on March 13-15, 2014, at the Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, TN. The small town of Shelbyville was brimming with horse show enthusiasts who were in town for the first big show of the year. It’s been a long, cold winter and everyone was anxious for their horse “fix”! Again this year, a three-judge panel officiated over the entire show. The Honorable Paul Robbins, Jamie Hankins and Dean Byard judged the three day event. The Co-Chairmen for the show were Benny Johnson and Buist Carr with the help of Show Secretary Marcia Allison and Program Chairman Dee Cantrell. Dallas Eubanks did a great job announcing for the first time! The Trainers’ Show is the traditional season opener and the show was a much needed success! The Walking Horse Trainers’ Auxiliary also had a silent auction taking place on the upper concourse to help raise money and had some good items for people to bid on. Most importantly, the trainers did a stellar job of presenting their horses in a polished and professional manner. They have set the standard for the year. The horses were showy and exciting and proved that there can be a positive performance of the Tennessee Walking Horse. The owners and exhibitors were expecting an upbeat and successful show and the trainers delivered! Saturday Night was the special retirement for Trigger Treat and Memorial for Jeff Givens. This presentation was something everyone came to the arena to watch as Detha Yoder gives her new horse A Bit Of Kelsey and Harold Dean Givens presented Trigger Treat around the ring. When his Change a big kiss after making their blue ribbon blanket was placed on, the lights went out and the spotlight only reflected the sparkle debut in the Amateur 15.2 & Under Mares and of the blanket. It was truly a breathtaking experience for all. Trigger Treat and Jeff Geldings class. Givens will go down in history as they were truly the Model Horse team of our Industry. Reigning World Grand Champion, I Am Jose’ and Casey Wright made a stellar exhibition that brought the crowd to their feet once again. The crowd roared as I Am Jose’ made his final lap, and showed off his championship style for the Trainers’ Show crowd. The grand finale of the show was the Walking Horse Championship. Two top entries made the gate call for the much anticipated class. When the judges walked the line, Master’s Razzle And Jazz and Herbert Derickson caught their attention. I’m Deuce and Casey Wright were the reserve champions for the very proud owners, Billy Max and Debbie Woods. The complete show results and judges cards not only follow, but can also be seen, saved and printed from our complimentary website at www.thescooponline.com. The SCOOP site has up-to-date news, photos and page by page of each edition online. The SCOOP congratulates all the winners from the Trainers’ Show and looks forward to celebrating your wins in 2014.
Jose’s Dulce carried Meghan Davis and Taylor Walters to the winners’ circle in the Amateur/Amateur class for Shamrock Farms. This was such a fun class for these girls to share the reins and win.

(Jackson, MS) The 2014 Mississippi Charity Horse Show was held Thursday through Saturday, March 27-29, 2014 in the Kirk Fordice Equine Center in Jackson, MS. All proceeds benefit children of Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, also in Jackson. Patients come from all of Mississippi’s 82 counties to receive comprehensive medical care for everything from common childhood illnesses to serious trauma and life-threatening or chronic illnesses. This year’s event was composed of both afternoon and evening classes on Thursday and Friday and evening classes on Saturday, for a total of 96 classes over three days. Of the 19 classes, there were 19 championship & stake classes, including two youth championships. There were more than 20 Riders’ Cup Classes with more than $40,000 in prize money. The judges for this year’s show were Frankie Bradley, Paul Livingston, David Sisk, Sam Sorrell, and Robbie Spiller. Well-known horse show organist, Mr. Larry Bright, of Tyler- Dr. Ann Rea and Rukus Razor are met by trainer, town, MS served as the official organist; Shane Shiflet served as the official photographer, Jonathan Watts, and Dr. Rea’s son, Alex, and Mr. Mike “Red” Umberger served as the show farrier. Bluemania Barn Party and Colt Preview
BOWLING GREEN, KY – The BlueMania Barn Party and Colt Preview was held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Tommy Loid Stables. Although it was a cloudy and windy day the event was well attended. Spectators and interested buyers came from several states, including Oklahoma, Virginia, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Arkansas and Kentucky. Indigo Blue and his offspring were the focus for this gathering. Holly and David Schroeder wanted to celebrate the culmination of eight years of work, hope and dreams for Indigo Blue’s breeding program. There were 10 colts shown to the guests at this event. The barbeque pork and chicken was to “die for.” This event was organized and presented in a top notch way. Needless to say, the event was enjoyed by all. The stud fee raffle was to benefit The Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville, KY, a medical camp for children with chronic or life threatening illnesses. Kimberly Freet, of Auburn, Indiana won the Indigo Blue stud fee raffle (not present). THE SCOOP was proud to be on hand at this memorable event. Look for this event to take place again in 2015. Gen’s Telling Stories – is Indigo Blue’s BIG BROTHER – 18 years old. Miss Pacman – Unsure how old-show mare, bred by the Derickson’s. Blueray Jose – aka Gringo a 4 year old stallion. Miss Blue Velvet – 2013 KWHBIF Lite Shod English Champion
(Bought by the Michael & Kristin Catterton at the event). DLK Breeze Blue – Not by Indigo Blue. My Billion Dollar Baby – 3 year old mare out of 3 time World Champion Perfect Cut Jewel. Just started under saddle. Bluephoria – 2 year old filly-outstanding prospect. IL Divo – not shown because of a cold, named after the famous Italian quartet, and means in Italian, divine male performer. Just started under saddle, showing tremendous promise. IB Blue Denim – now a 2 year old. WHOA 2013 National High Point Reserve Open Weanling Champion; Kentucky High Point Open Weanling Champion and the winner of the Kentucky Walking Horse Breeders’ Incentive Fund Open Weanling Championship. Indigo Levi – Brought by Holly’s friend, Katie from the Wisconsin winterlands-5 months old fuzzy bear. Roanie – Indigo Blue’s half brother who is 18 years old. Roanie who was rescued in 2012 was living in deplorable conditions and is now living a much happier lifestyle. He loves his new assignment as Holly’s chief babysitter for the colts. Bluemaniac – Born on March 30, 2014, is the latest baby of Indigo Blue. He missed the preview by one day and is a healthy blue roan.

In The Scoop’s Issue 3, dated March 17, 2014, the name of Ronnie W. Benson should have been listed as Ronnie W. Vincent who was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Also Ronnie Grider’s picture was inadvertently put in The Scoop instead of Joe Bertram’s picture who was voted on the SCKWHA Supporter of the Year. The Scoop apologizes for these errors.

TWHBEA Supports Alexander, Isakson, McConnell, and Paul Legislation Lewisburg, TN - The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ & Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) fully supports new legislation pending in Washington, DC to institute objective, science-based inspections and reform the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R, TN) is championing the walking horse breed in the House of Representatives along with all Tennessee republican congressmen. Yesterday, four senators from the states most affected by Tennessee Walking Horses, Senators Lamar Alexander (R, TN), Johnny Isakson (R, GA), Mitch McConnell (R, KY), and Rand Paul (R, KY) introduced a bill in the Senate complementary to Congressman Blackburn’s bill. “As the oldest, largest, and most influential walking horse association, we applaud Senators Alexander, Isakson, McConnell, and Paul for their efforts to eliminate the last remnants of soring through objective, scientific-based, and veterinarian approved inspections,” said TWHBEA executive director Tracy Boyd.
TWHBEA, headquartered in Lewisburg, Tennessee, is the oldest and most prestigious organization devoted to the promotion of the breed. Founded in 1935, the breed registry was established to record the pedigrees of the Tennessee Walking Horse. Its goal is to maintain the purity of the breed, to promote greater awareness of the Tennessee Walking Horse and its qualities, to encourage expansion of the breed, and to help assure its general welfare. TWHBEA is hopeful that this legislation will be received positively in the House of Representatives and the Senate and gains widespread acceptance and passage. In the meantime, TWHBEA will help to incorporate the basic tenants of the legislation in the current selfregulatory environment.
