Woodbury Lions Club Horse Show Woodbury, TN-The 76th annual Woodbury Lions Club horse show was held Saturday, July 5th. The show started at 5:00pm this year with eleven pleasure classes followed by a short break and opening ceremonies. The rest of the twenty-five classes were held following the break in action. The judging panel for this years event consisted of Dean Byard, Allen Forman and Ronal Young. Bobby Sands of Columbia, Tennessee was the announcer for the evening while Jack Greene was in center ring taking pictures. Spectators came from all around to view the beautiful Tennessee Walking Horse in all of their glory. High caliber horses filled the arena all evening with many having World or World Grand Champion titles in front of their names. As if the turnout of horses wasn’t impressive enough already, an exhibition by reigning World Grand Champion I Am Jose brought the crowd to their feet! This popular five year old stallion is trained by Casey Wright and owned by Billy Max and Debbie Woods. The evening culminated with four top entries in the Walking Horse Stake class. After all was said and done, it was the team of He’s Slim Shady and Jimmy McConnell claiming top honors for owners Bill and Karen Bean. Receiving reserve honors was the popular team of Folsom Prison Blues and Charlie Green for the Jimmy Smith family. The 2008 World Grand Champion, Santana’s El Nino and Link Webb rounded out the top three. Congratulations to all of the Woodbury Lions Club horse show winners and thanks for letting The Scoop be apart of your win celebrations. For more information, news, updates, and photos please like us on Facebook or visit us online at our FREE website www.thescooponline.com. Money Tree Classic MONEY TREE CLASSIC-It was a star spangled evening for a horse show on Friday, July 4th, 2014.The 31st Annual Money Tree Classic was held in Shelbyville, back to it’s usual spot from last year, at the Bedford County Agricultural Center. Due to heavy rain, all of the Fourth Of July shows last year were held in the Champions Arena located on The Celebration grounds. The Honorable Paul Robbins judged the 37 classes, which hosted the most entries of all the shows that weekend, totaling 246 entries. Jennifer Barr served as photographer for the evening while Mark Farrer kept the crowd entertained as announcer. The women of the Walking Horse Ladies Auxiliary worked hard to make sure the show was a success and kept things running smoothly. The show began promptly at 6:00pm, which began with a very competitive stick horse class. The show had many fine

horses competing while some notable standouts included: A Superbowl MVP, Mr Country Gentleman, He’s a Superstar General, Rise To Fame, Marty McFly, I’m Wall Street and Gen’s Black Maverick. Coming to an end well after the midnight hour, Gen’s Black Maverick and Bill Callaway were crowned as the Stake class champions for proud owner, Maple Crest Farms. Reserve was the team of Puttin Cash On The Line and Jimmy McConnell for owner, Molly Walters. Rounding out the top three was I’m Deuce and Casey Wright in the irons for Billy Max and Debbie Woods. The Scoop wishes to congratulate and thank all involved for running a first class show and to the Walking Horse Ladies Auxiliary for all of their hard work in making this happen. Congratulations to all the winners from Friday night and thank you for letting us getting to be a part of your victories! For more information, news, and photos, like us on Facebook or visit us online at www.thescooponline.com.

The Future Is Bright For This Rising Star

Joe Lester

Joe with Ironworker's Blue Steele after claiming the Lite Shod Championship at the Ohio Celebration 2008.

Joe Lester is quickly making his appearance known on the flat shod circuit and is becoming one of the top rising trainers in the Industry. Growing up in Lancing, Tennessee this 22 year old currently resides in Clermont, Florida where he is the trainer for Montverde Academy. Showing on the Florida circuit during the winter and early spring, Joe caravans to middle Tennessee in early May to stay through the Celebration. When asked how he got his start as a trainer, his response was, “Montverde Academy offered me an assistant trainer position in 2012 and it was the best choice I’ve made so far.” “Carrie Martin encouraged me to make the decision to get my trainer’s license and start training. “ Taking that leap of faith, Joe left his family, friends and barn behind in East Tennessee to pursue his passion. It was a great decision for him, resulting in making one of his dreams come true, winning a World Championship title. Celebration 2013 was one Joe will remember for a lifetime. It was when passion, dedication and a lot of hard work all came together to combine into success. I’m AK-47 and Page 42 / The Scoop

Ashley Gray, daughter of Darren Gray, were named as the Country Pleasure Youth English World Champions and the Country Pleasure Youth Western World Champions. This 4 year old gelding was purchased green broke and with Joe’s talent, developed into a dream come true for Lester and Gray. This was noted as one of the proudest moments in the show ring for Joe. When working with horses, Joe states, “I am very competitive, so I like improving horses and seeing them progress.” Joe has had a competitive nature from the start, he began showing horses at age 12 originally riding the American Saddle bred before being introduced to the wonderful Tennessee Walking Horse. Joe loves all aspects of the breed, both flat shod and performance. Joe’s residence while in Tennessee is at Christmas Creek Farms in Shelbyville where he currently trains 27 horses. Being on the road all the time does not bother Joe. He loves traveling to his favorite shows, his all time favorites are, The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, The International Grand Championship, The National Trainer’s Show, Spring Fun Show, North Carolina Championship Show in Asheville, NC, and The Delta Fall Classic in Tunica, MS. Since Joe loves to compete, he feels that these shows are most competitive and loves that atmosphere. When crediting who he gained most of his knowledge from, Mike Janeway and Ella Kline were first on his list. Other great

trainers who had a major influence on Joe becoming a trainer were, Allison Smart, Laurie Toone, Hannah Pulvers, and Shelli MeHaffey. Joe is always happy when seeing his customers make good rides and of course when they win the blue! He loves his job and spending time around the horses! When asking Joe things he can’t live without he quickly replied,” horses, friends and family.” If Joe isn’t at the barn riding his ideal day would be horse shopping, going to the movies or hanging out at the beach. He also enjoys spending time with his four dogs, Rocky a Boston terrier, Jack a Golden Retriever, Cooper an Australian Sheperd and Kallie a Blue Heeler. The best advice that he has ever received in or out of the show ring came from fellow horse trainers and peers telling him not to get discouraged in the Industry. Joe has taken that advice to heart and lives by that daily. His outgoing personality shines through to his career. He is always encouraging others and congratulating his competitors as well as putting smiles on his customer’s faces! Always such a positive and delightful person, Joe has the ability to make anyone crack a smile. One of Joe’s biggest fears is being badly injured and never being able to ride again. A scare back in early Spring put everything into perspective, while working with a young colt, he was thrown breaking his back in several places. Joe’s plans for the future in the Tennessee Walking

TWHBEA to Receive Revenue from Tennessee Walking Horse License Plates LEWISBURG, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) will now receive a portion of the proceeds from all Tennessee Walking Horse specialty license plates purchased or renewed in the state of Tennessee. State Senator Jim Tracy championed this measure in the Tennessee General Assembly. This new legislation took effect on July 1, 2014. As of May 2014 there were nearly 4,000 Tennessee Walking Horse License plates on the roads in Tennessee. “I appreciate Senator Tracy for his leadership in getting this passed,” said president Steve Smith. “I urge Tennesseans to request the Tennessee Walking Horse license plate upon their renewal.” The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA), headquartered in Lewisburg, Tennessee, is the oldest and most prestigious organization devoted to the promotion of the breed. Founded in 1935, the breed registry was established to record the pedigrees of the Tennessee Walking Horse. Its goal is to maintain the purity of the breed, to promote greater awareness of the Tennessee Walking Horse and its qualities, to encourage expansion of the breed, and to help assure its general welfare.

The Competition Was Exciting As Moody Star And Bobby Hugh Won The Stake CORNERSVILLE, TN – The Cornersville Lions Club hosted their 68th annual horse show Friday, July 11, 2014 at 6:00 pm. Show Manager Bobby McDaniel and his staff put on another successful event this year. The weather was sunny with some humidity. There were top quality horses who participated in each class. After the sun went down it was more comfortable for the exhibitors and horses to show. Bobby Sands, announcer, did an outstanding job keeping the 32 classes moving along, with the Walking Stake ending the show around 11:00 p.m. The Cornersville Lions Club donated the profits from this show to programs for leader dogs for the blind, eye glasses for local people in need, aid to local fire loss victims, Tennessee School for the Deaf and Blind, youth sports and other local school and community organizations and activities. The show officials were Ronal Young, Judge; Connie Dunlap, Organist; Jack Greene, Photographer; Ringmaster, Steve Wolaver and Horse Show Chairman, Bobby McDaniel. All of these individuals did an outstanding job! When the Walking Stake came to a conclusion, Bobby Sands announced Bobby Hugh aboard Moody Star as the winner of this amazing class. Moody Star wins Cornersville with trainer Bobby Hughes in the irons for proud owner Dr. Jack Kwok.

Jordan Dempsey rode Absolute Bullet Proof to the blue in the Youth 12-17 class for grandfather, Charles Gleghorn.
