App to help with the TWH Industry Mary Morrison developed an App (for iphone and android phones) that she hopes will be able to keep people up-to-date concerning the Walking Horse Industry and the latest news on the bills, information/status, news updates, etc....but most importantly--what people can do to support the Industry. For instance, they could tweet something, oppose or support something (for example, there’s something on popvox concerning the Past Act currently). By activating the push notifications when you download it from the App Store, it will alert them when there is something new they could do,even if it’s just something small. Many don’t know what they can do and don’t feel like taking the time to figure it out,but downloading an App is simple, given they own a smartphone. Activating the notifications, would even save them the time of having to actually open the App! Mary thinks this would be able to keep people updated on things they could do they may have not known about prior. It’s actually already available to download but it’s still very much a work-inprogress. This site, she hopes, will be worth it and beneficial to others and its free. She also decided to throw a calendar in with class lists, judges, location, and times to help keep everyone in the know about the upcoming events.

Entry Deadline for TWHNC The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration entry deadline is 5:00pm Tuesday, August 5, 2014. If you’re planning on showing make sure to get your entries in on time.
Help with funding for the ETWHA shows I want to take a moment and frankly ask for your help. I am the secretary for the ETWHA and we are in need of everyone’s assistance this year. As many of you are aware horse shows are not as abundant as they once were, therefore the money is not as easy to obtain. It takes a village to organize and plan a horse show, that encompass the prize money as well. We can no longer begin a show and hope for the best, it is imperative to have the show paid for prior to its start time. I implore everyone that either shows horses, loves horses, loves to come and watch or simply likes our charity to give til it hurts. Better yet just give something. Contact me if you are willing or interested in giving to this wonderful cause. Our charity is St. Jude Children’s Hospital and we hope to give them more than a nominal amount. However, we need YOUR help. Please help us help the children. Thank you for your time and I hope you consider giving to this cause. Have a wonderful day and many blessings. CELEBRATION WELCOMES BACK TWHBEA FUTURITY The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration is pleased to host the 2014 Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ & Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) National Futurity on Wednesday August 20, 2014 at the Calsonic Arena. In recent years the National Futurity had been held in Murfreesboro, Tenn. “We are pleased with the decision of TWHBEA to return the National Futurity to its traditional date on the first day of the Celebration. We are pleased the Walking Horse fans will have an opportunity to enjoy the young horses the breed has to offer as part of the National Futurity,” said Celebration Chief Executive Mike Inman. As part of the return of the National Futurity, the five-person Celebration judging panel will also adjudicate the Futurity and those classes will serve as qualifiers to Celebration championship classes. Also, TWHBEA will offer buy-ins to the National Futurity for yearlings, twoyear-olds and three-year-olds not previously nominated. The 76th Annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration will be held August 20-30, 2014 on its historic show grounds in Shelbyville. For more information visit www.twhnc.com.

Delano And Michael Wright Won The Battle For The Second Year In A Row At Parker’s Crossroads PARKER’S CROSSROADS, TN – The Parker’s Crossroads Walking Horse Show took place July 19, 2014. Located in Henderson County at Exit 108 on Interstate 40, halfway between Memphis and Nashville, the City of Parker’s Crossroads is full of rich, southern history. The Battle of Parker’s Crossroads was fought there December 31, 1862, during the Civil War. A popular tourist attraction in the city is a battlefield tour. The Parker’s Crossroads City Park has spacious facilities for special events, softball and baseball fields, a children’s playground, a walking trail, a horse show arena and many picnic areas all under shade trees and a pavilion. The horse show arena is the home of the Parker’s Crossroads Walking Horse Show. This year the show was sponsored by the Wildersville-Beaver Ruritan Club. Proceeds from the show and other fundraisers of the club go to the assistance of community efforts in education, benevolent work with cancer patients and other catastrophic illnesses, as well as provide a Thanksgiving meal for senior citizens and fund college scholarships. The 2014 horseshow was dedicated to Mrs. Martha Stanfill. Ms. Martha is a member of the Wildersville Church of Christ. She looks for opportunities to serve others, whether it be when she is involved with activities at church or outside of church. Ms. Martha keeps the financial records of the Club in top shape and did an outstanding job of keeping the horseshow records. Walking horse trainers came from many nearby States in hopes of winning top honors in many different divisions. Dallas Eubanks did an outstanding job as Master Of Ceremonies, while Sid Abernathy was the official show photographer. Bryan Hays provided farrier services while Charles Ritchie did an outstanding job keeping the horses in time to his music. The Honorable John Allan Callaway tied the top quality horses and their riders. In the final class Michael Wright brought Delano to the tricolor ribbon for proud owner Darla Olive of Parker’s Crossroads, TN. This great class brought the show to a close. The Scoop For The Walking Horse Industry JUDGING PANEL ANNOUNCED FOR 76TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration (TWHNC) will host its 76th Annual World Championship August 20-30, 2014 on its historic show grounds in Shelbyville, Tenn. Adjudicating the world championship will be Rollie Beard, Lewisburg, Tenn., Jennifer Bingham, Burlington, Ky., David Landrum, Franklin, Tenn., Paul Robbins, Rutherfordton, N.C., and David Sisk, Columbia, Tenn. “The Celebration is excited to bring such a talented, knowledgeable panel together for our 76th annual show. We have an excellent mix of experience and fresh faces and they are all anxious to oversee the amazing quality of the Tennessee Walking Horses that come to Shelbyville each August. It isn’t often that no active trainer and two rookies are selected but we have the utmost respect for each of the members of the panel and their abilities,” said TWHNC CEO Mike Inman. Rollie Beard will be judging The Celebration for the eighth time, second only to Mike Carpenter who has judged 12 times. Beard’s first assignment was in 1988 and he also judged in 1994, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2013. Bingham will be judging for the fifth time, the first four coming in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Landrum will be judging for the second time, the first coming 34 years ago in 1980. Robbins and Sisk will be making their first Celebration appearances. Sisk has judged the Gulf Coast Charity, North Carolina Championships, Alabama Jubilee, Mississippi Charity, and Tunica Fall Classic among others. Robbins has judged the East Tennessee Classic, National Trainers’ Show and most recently the Money Tree Classic over the 4th of July weekend in Shelbyville. TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE NATIONAL CELEBRATION AND VETERINARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES HISTORIC CHANGES THAT EXCEED INSPECTION STANDARDS Shelbyville, Tennessee (July 24, 2014) – Dr. Jerry H. Johnson, chairman of the Veterinary Advisory Committee (VAC) for the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration (TWHNC), announced today major rule enhancements for participants in the world’s foremost Tennessee Walking Horse competition. These rules will be implemented for the TWHNC held August 20 through August 30, 2014 in Shelbyville. “These new rules are for the benefit of the breed and for those who love Tennessee Walking Horses,” said Dr. Johnson. “With these rule changes we are also sending notice to those who mistreat these beautiful animals that they have no place in the horse industry and will be exposed. Working together, we can ensure that the Tennessee Walking Horse breed gets the respect its power and grace deserve.” “The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration is taking an unprecedented action, said Mike Inman, CEO of the TWHNC. No other breed is incorporating protocols that go beyond the scope of the HIO

and USDA inspection entities. These protocols will be implemented as yet another positive, objective way to ensure the welfare of those equine athletes competing at the national championships.” Among the new rules going to effect are: Horses must be stabled on the grounds of the TWHNC for 48 hours before championships, Registration papers, as well as a current (within 30 days) health certificate and negative Coggins test for each horse to gain admittance into the show grounds, and Digital x-rays and blood draws on-site conducted and supervised by VAC appointed licensed equine veterinarian specialists. Dr. John L. O’Brien, DVM, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, has been appointed Show Veterinarian by the VAC. In addition to these rules enhancements, the TWHNC will launch a website to better serve the public and breeders, providing detailed information on this historic initiative. The website is www.celebrationvac.com and contains VAC recommendations, FAQ’s, a section to submit a question to the VAC and biographies of the veterinarians serving on the VAC. To speak with either a representative of the TWHNC or the VAC, please call or email Ken Whitehouse at 615-224-1818 or ken.whitehouse@ dvl.com.

It is a great honor for WHOA to be given the opportunity to represent the Tennessee Walking Horse as part of this illustrious organization. “We look forward to working with the American Horse Council to increase the opportunities available to our Tennessee Walking Horse community. We are both honored and eager to represent our great breed,” stated WHOA President Dee Dee Miller. Founded in 1969, the American Horse Council exists to represent the horse industry in Washington before Congress and the federal regulatory agencies. Its goal is to ensure that the industry works together in Washington to accomplish the ultimate goal of “Keeping Opportunities Open” for the horse industry. “We welcome WHOA as a member of the American Horse Council. The AHC works on many national issues like taxes, access to public lands, immigration reform, welfare issues, and response to contagious equine disease outbreaks that impact all breeds and segments of the horse industry. We are glad to have the support of WHOA as we work on these and all national issues that impact the horse industry,” said AHC president Jay Hickey.
