Gen’s Black Maverick, our reigning 2017 World Grand Champion owned by Maple Crest Farms, Keith and Lorraine Rosbury, was voted by the trainers as Horse of the Year.

WHTA Awards Banquet BELL BUCKLE, TN- The Annual Walking Horse Trainers’ Association Banquet was held Saturday, December 2, 2017. For the fourth year in a row the banquet was held in Bell Buckle, Tennessee at the Bell Buckle Banquet Hall. The silent auction started at 6:00 p.m. with many items donated to choose from. Dinner and awards began at 7:00 p.m. and starting it off with the prayer led by Howard Hamilton. A delicious meal consisting of prime rib, ham, potatoes and all the fixings were served.

The American Patriot and Lilly Beth Harville were voted as Youth 12-17 Horse of the Year. Trainer Chad Way, grandparents Bobby and Anne Wood and mother Kimberley Morrison along with Justin Jenne’ join the winners.

Maxine Beasley and Inception were the Youth 11 & Under Reserve Horse of the Year Winners. Addie Harris, Wesley Stapler, Beth and Bibi Beasley, along with Sam Perkins are pictured with the duo.

Wallace Brandon was awarded the Lifetime Living Legend Award. His wife Laura was there to celebrate this special honor.

Dr. Jim Baum was awarded the 2017 Amateur Rider of the Year. He is pictured with his wife Lisa Baum. The Baums won awards at the banquet with: Big Time Bandit, A Sunday Rose, Unreal, A Bruce Pearl, Lined Up At The Ritz, Tigerblood, Maroon 5 and Hey Good Looking.

The Multi-Day Horse Show of the Year was the North Carolina Championship for the past six years. Board member Robert Deutsch accepts the honor.

Jonathan Lawell was the High Point Youth Council winner of the $500 donated by Kathy Zeis.

The Weanling Horse of the Year went to World Grand Champion, Exeter. Jack Heffington, Jayden Jackson and Robert Nelms receive the honor.

WHTA LADIES AUXILIARY: A STRONG FORCE IN WALKING HORSE INDUSTRY

Money Tree Classic The Walking Horse Trainers’ Ladies Auxiliary is celebrating their 47th year, they are proud to support the Trainers’ Association. The Auxiliary presented awards at the Walking Horse Trainers’ Banquet on Saturday, December 2, 2017. The festivities were held at the Bell Buckle Banquet Hall. The Auxiliary Equitation High Point Winners were as follows: 6-11 division, Gold winner- Ani Drane, Silver- Jessica Lawwell and Bronze- Morgan Norris; Youth 12-14 divison, Gold winner- Brooklyn Fuss, Silver- Jayden Jackson and Bronze- Mia Thomas; 15-17 division, the Gold winner- Claire Hankins, Silver- Alexandra Oddo and Bronze- Svanah Martin; Adult division- Gold- Allison Thorson, Silver- Carmen Vaughan and Bronze- Morgan Wolin. Next the Auxilary High Point Awards were presented. Winning the Gold award was Taylor Walters. Dru McCormick received the Silver and Christy Mauney was the Bronze winner. Taylor Walters also received the World Champion award with Miss Dixie Carter. It’s Taylor’s first year in the Auxiliary. Madison Scarborough was awarded the Rookie of the Year Award. It is given to the individual that has been a member of the Auxiliary for three years or less and shown a great deal of participation and dedication. Member of the Year was presented to Kimberly Wick. This is a member who does their best to participate in as many meetings and events as possible. Kimberly held a chairperson role and is always willing to help with any and everything. This year the auxiliary presented the Mud Slide Slim Award to Beth Lawwell. This award is a prestigious honor given to an Auxiliary member who has worked for the efforts of the Auxiliary for at least ten years and continuously supported the goals of the auxiliary and always on hand to help. The 2018 officers are President- Sarah Smith, 1st Vice President- Susan Coleman, 2nd Vice President- Kari Tisma, SecretaryKimberly Wick and Treasurer- Heather Beard. The Ladies Auxiliary was very proud and honored to win Best One Night Show of the Year with the Money Tree Classic! The Scoop For The Walking Horse Industry OBITUARY- B.H. HODGE B.H. Hodge, age 79, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Ft. Sanders Hospital. He and his wife, June, were married 59 wonderful years. Their marriage was blessed with 3 children, Alecia (Bill), Brad (Terri) and Alan (and friend Barbara); 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Micah, Jonathan, Chase, Andrew and Annalisa; 2 great grandchildren, Natalie and Amelia. He is survived by sisters Doris Reeves, Karen Shoffner; brother, Larry Hodge; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Max and Helen Hodge, and brother, Ronnie Hodge. B.H. was a friend to many. He owned and showed Tennessee Walking Horses locally and at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. His family and friends look forward to that Great Reunion Day in Heaven when they will be together again -for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Cor. 5:8. Donations can be made to St Jude’s or Shriner Children’s Hospital. Mynatt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The Scoop sends our condolences to the Hodge Family.

BRANDON CELEBRATES IN A BIG WAY The Scoop congratulates Wallace Brandon on recently celebrating his 91st birthday. Wallace was also this year’s recipient of the Lifetime Living Legend Award at the Walking Horse Trainers Banquet. His love of horses placed him with many greats throughout his lifetime giving him the knowledge to become a great Walking Horse Industry icon himself. He is a seasoned horse show judge, as well as, trainer. Wallace was a founding member of the Walking Horse Trainers’ Association, where he has served as president and board member. He has been inducted into the Hall of Fame, Trainers’ Friendship Club, and was named the 1997 Trainer of the Year. Congratulations to Wallace on both achievements.

The Scoop For The Walking Horse Industry WHTA AUXILIARY DECEMBER MEETING

TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE IN PARADE Tori Baxter rides her Tennessee Walking Horse, Blueberry Star, in their local Christmas parade. We love seeing our great breed showcased to the public.

The Walking Horse Trainers’ Ladies Auxiliary held their annual meeting on Friday, December 1st at Edgemont Baptist Church at 11:00am. The auxiliary had their forms to be filled out and turned in with their dues and everyone signed in for attending the meeting. Carol Lackey opened the meeting showing an antique find she discovered at the local antique store. It was the first ever Money Tree Classic program book. Taking a stroll down memory lane was a lot of fun for everyone. Lots of business was discussed for the upcoming year, such as plans for the Money Tree Classic as well as the Money Tree Fall Classic in which the Auxiliary will host again this year. The dog show will now be under the care of Marty and Jennifer Barr. The ladies are very excited to see the 2018 Celebration Dog Show be the best it’s ever been. It’s such a nice way to include the locals in our community and get them involved in the Celebration. Discussions were made as to whom to donate money to. Freda Dean always distributes in a great way and it’s so nice to benefit organizations that are using Tennessee Walking Horses. Ways to help expand our scholarship programs were discussed. Beth Thomas and Kari Tisma will be in charge of that for the upcoming year. At the meeting they discussed ways to benefit the group the best and cut some corners to make it easier for hard working girls. The group agreed to mail out some gift cards for people in our industry going through hard times and would notify the group about thank you cards received. The members each voted for three people that they wanted to judge the 2018 Money Tree Classic. To stay up to date with the Ladies Auxiliary you can visit them on Facebook.

OLD PLANK STABLES TO HOST FLEA MARKET Old Plank Stables will be host to a Flea Market. This venue will open to the public every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. 2017 TWHBEA AWARDS BANQUET

David & Karla Landrum and Karla’s mother, Connie Bryant accepted the Master Breeder Award for their breeding programs that have produced numerous champions.

Steve Smith presented Jeffrey Howard the Reese L. Smith, Jr. Distinguished Service Award for all his help at TWHBEA and in the Walking Horse Industry.

The TWHBEA Performance Horse Ambassador Award was awarded to Jean Baum for her being an owner and exhibitor for over 50 years.

Kristen Corbin accepted the Jeff Givens Friendship Award from Ashley Wadsworth for Jo Ann Dowell. The Dowells have been a part of the Walking Horse Industry for over 40 years. They have given a yearly scholarship to the WHTA .

Upper Cumberland Hands Out Awards COOKEVILLE, TN- On Saturday, December 9th, members of the UCWHA, Upper Cumberland Walking Horse Association, gathered to honor those who achieved in High Point Divisions. The event venue was the Willow Place Conference Center in Cookeville. Falling snow flurries and red poinsettias added the perfect touch to make it just right for Christmas. Following a greeting from Association President Jimmy Sherrell, a great meal was served buffet style. Then High Point Awards were given in 30 divisions. The final awards were the Sportsmanship Awards and the overall High Point Awards. The sportsmanship awards are special because they are voted on by the association peers. The Youth Sportsmanship Award went to Alyssa Edgerton and the Adult Sportsmanship Award went to Jordan Stacy. The overall High Point Pleasure Horse Award went to Bad Moon Watchout for Danny & Wanda Reagan. The overall High Point Performance Horse Award went to Rebel In Command for Stanley Stewart. Winning the overall High Point Trainer was James Young with Wanda Reagan getting 2nd. The Scoop congratulates all the winners and participants on a great year. Reserve High Point winner in the Youth Country Pleasure division was Matasia Goodwin and Playing The Outfield. Goodwin also took a reserve win in the Youth Trail Pleasure E/W with Stop, Drop & Roll.

For three generations, this family has been heavily involved in the Walking Horse industry by either owning, exhibiting or training. Our industry always steps up and helps others.
