WALKING FOR THE

Puttin Cash On The Line and Jimmy McConnell made an outstanding victory ride and won the Walking Horse Stake class for owner Kelsey Andrews.

PUTTIN’ CASH ON THE LINE AND JIMMY MCCONNELL MADE A WINNING VICTORY FOR THE HOLIDAYS SHELBYVILLE, TN – As the “season of giving” approaches, Walking Horse enthusiasts filled the Calsonic Arena on November 11, 2017 for a very worthy cause. This year’s 6th Annual Walking for the Angels Horse Show became an event in which the entire community could participate. Show Manager Julie Lambert held a Christmas Village with several vendors who came to sell their goods. Santa Claus made an appearance to greet “little ones” and “big ones” to have their pictures taken. Judging the event was the Honorable Johnny Puckett. Many great horses were big hitters over the fun-filled weekend, but getting the winning score and Stake title was Puttin’ Cash On The Line and Jimmy McConnell. Blaise Broccard guided Incredible Machine to a Reserve title for

owner Linda B. Stewart. Rounding out the top three was Jeff Green aboard Jose’s Ritzy Hawk for owner Evergreen Walking Horse Farm. Five entries answered the gate call in the final championship class. The entire Tennessee Walking Horse Industry does so much for the community and charities. It is to be noted that Lambert’s summer and fall Walking For The Angels shows raise over $30,000 annually for the Angel Tree Program in Bedford County. Christmas is made brighter for some very important children thanks to every trainer, exhibitor, owner, spectator and shopper that participated. Congratulations to all the winners from The Scoop staff. For more information, please visit our website at www.thescooponline.com or visit us on Facebook.

The Scoop For The Walking Horse Industry EQUINE OBITUARY- HARD TEXAS CASH Hard Texas Cash, the beautiful black stallion owned by Nancy Groover Hodges of Waco, Texas, passed away on Nov. 8, 2017 at the age of 24. He was affectionately known as “Tex,” and was foaled on May 19, 1993 to Tommy Howell. Tex caught the eye of the Wink and Nancy Groover as a yearling. He made his first show ring appearance at the 1995 Texas State Fair, winning the Two-Year-Old Open class. Tex was campaigned little as a two and three-year-old, but he still remained competitive. In 1997, Hard Texas Cash and Nancy started off with a set of roses at Mississippi Charity and went on to earn two more wins. The duo went on to win the Amateur Four-Year-Old World Grand Championship and Amateur Four-Year-Old Stallions World Championship at the 1997 Tennessee Walking horse National Celebration. He fulfilled all of their dreams as a show horse and the decision was made for Tex to begin his breeding career at Glen Oaks Farm in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Hard Texas Cash spent the next 13 years as a successful breeding stallion. In 2011, Tex found his forever home at the Hodges’ farm in Texas. Hard Texas Cash was a great ambassador for the Walking Horse breed and will be greatly missed by all.

EQUINE OBITUARY- PRIDE’S LADY DIA

CANDID OF THE WEEK

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on the grounds at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in Shelbyville. Hundreds of thousands of lights adorn fence-posts, trees, barns and metal artwork that make this venue a sight to behold. The Celebration will be hosting the 3rd Annual Celebration Christmas on December 9th from 4pm until 7pm. There is no charge to attend this event, so make plans to stop by and celebrate in this very festive way.

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of beloved Pride’s Lady Dia, more affectionately known as Lady Dia. She passed away on November 8, 2017, at Blackwell Stables, her home for the past 20 years. Lady Dia, by Delight of Pride out of Eb’s Lady Di, was foaled on April 10, 1995. Her training began under Ken Moore stables. In 1997, she was purchased by Ed McLeod and put under the direction of Blackwell Stables, to be campaigned in Open Classes with Tommy Blackwell and Amateur Classes with Beverly McLeod. Pride’s Lady Dia’s show ring resume´ includes over 200 shows and 140 blue ribbons. Her awards include: 1997 South Carolina Walking Horse Association Two Year Old Open High Point Champion; 1998 South Carolina Walking Horse Association Three Year Old Open and Three Year Old Mare & Gelding High Point Champion; 2001 North Carolina Walking Horse Association Reserve High Point Amateur Ladies Champion and Reserve High Point Aged Mare Champion; 2002 North Carolina Walking Horse Association Amateur Canter High Point Champion; 2003-2013, 2015-2016 - South Carolina Walking Horse Association Amateur Canter High Point Champion; 2014 South Carolina Walking Horse Association Amateur Canter Reserve High Point; 2003-2004, 2007, and 2015 North Carolina Walking Horse Association Amateur Canter Reserve High Point Champion; 2006, 2008, 2010, 2013, and 2016 North Carolina Walking Horse Association Amateur Canter High Point Champion; Walking Horse Report Top Ten Champion 2004-2016; 2009 Scoop Selection Readers Choice Reserve Amateur Canter Mare, and 2016 Scoop Selection Readers Choice Amateur Canter Mare winner. This big black mare had a commanding presence in the ring and will be sorely missed in the upcoming show season. She was an outstanding show mare, but an even more incredible ambassador for the breed. Pride’s Lady Dia was owned by Sadie McLeod, ridden by Beverly McLeod, trained by Tommy Blackwell, and loved by all.
