SSHBEA TRAIL RIDE

The Joel Nipper Family of Cleveland, Tennessee has announced the passing of their beloved Tennessee Walking Horse Popcorn Pusher. Popcorn Pusher was sired by Pushers High Score and out of a Prides’ Generator mare. The beautiful gelding began his show career in 2002 with Raegan Thompson directing him to many blues in the Youth 11 & Under division. This duo accumulated many titles and accolades. Other equestrians riding him to blue ribbon titles were Becky Bull and Skyler Nipper. Throughout his remaining show career, Skyler and Popcorn Pusher continued winning title after title. 2013 was his final year in the show ring. He was moved to the Park Pleasure division and shown three times. The duo took home two blues and one reserve. He began his show career as a champion and ended his show career as a champion. Nipper Hill, the Joel Nipper farm, was where Popcorn Pusher enjoyed his final years and also became his final resting place. The Scoop sends our sympathy to the Nipper Family and all who previously owned and loved Popcorn Pusher.

Laurel Charity Welcomes Horses

LAUREL, MS- The 2018 Walking Horse show season is no longer just a thought. Mississippi welcomed the area’s horse enthusiasts on March 3rd for the Laurel Charity Horse Show. The annual event took place at the Magnolia Center in Laurel. 34 classes were showcased with 52 entries. The Honorable Jamie Lawrence marked the cards and Donna Burnham served as show manager. Larry Bright provided the guests with his beautiful organ tunes. The largest class of the evening, the Amateur Ladies on Mares/Geldings, boasted four entries. Riding out with the blue was Bobbye Baham aboard Consuelo. Reserve was In Line At The Ritz and Dr. Ann Rhea. The Glidewell Family returned to Corinth, Mississppi with three blue ribbons to kick off their season. Julia Glidewell directed Skywalks Threat in the Amateur Pony Specialty class claiming the blue. Michelle Glidewell took the blue in the Racking Performance class with He’s The Banker while Steve Beam carried Steve Glidewell’s entry, Offensive Line, to the blue in the Riders’ Cup Four Year Old Open class. The Riders’ Cup Walking Horse Stake Class was the grand finale. One entry answered the announcer’s call. It was Kinfoke and Clayton Davis that claimed the title of Laurel Charity Stake Champions. CM and Connie Hess are the owners. The evening was a great success as organizers were very pleased. The proceeds benefit “Dying to Live Ministries” which is a drug rehabilitation program for women. The large amount donated will sponsor six women for six months. For complete show coverage visit our free website at www.thescooponline.com or like us on Facebook. Page 40 / The Scoop

WALKING HORSE ASSOCIATION OF OHIO

HONORS ITS OWN

The WHAO gathered to honor a year of many accomplishments by its members on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at A LA Cart in Canfield, Ohio. They were treated to a scrumptious buffet meal of chicken & dressing, pineapple ham, stuffed shells and all the trimmings. Preceding the meal was a time of fellowship and reminiscing where the guests mingled and shared memories of the 2017 show year. Members and guests took time from fellowship to inspect the lovely items available for the live auction to follow the awards. Invocation was given by Kathie Waltz as members bowed their heads and held hands. The awards ceremony, immediately following the meal, was hosted by Paul Szucs, accompanied by Melanie Keegan, who bestowed the awards. The High Point program recognized those who attend and participate at the shows all season long. Sometimes we win the blue ribbons, but all the points count, regardless of where they may fall. It is that energy that we devote, the weekends spent in all sorts of weather and conditions, and the pride we have in the Tennessee Walking horse, we gather to applaud. We do this because we love it! Following the awards ceremony was the highly anticipated auction. The auction offered many beautiful items, horse related and more, for which the auction participants could bid. Our auctioneer, Mike Davis took the floor and conducted a lively round of bidding for the items. One of the highlights of the auction was

the vintage rocking horse, generously donated by the Brunetti family. This beautiful rocking horse had been in their family for many years. It was handmade for them in Cincinnati by a gentleman who did sets for the Cincinnati Ballet, Opera and Orchestra. Many hands made this event memorable, WHAO would like to thank the attendees and the following: The Scoop for their generous donation of a custom logo (won by Michelle Lamb); Laura Lindberg for reservations; Polly Stout & Kathie Waltz who organized the auction and purchased items from Big Dee’s with Bonus Bucks as well as their own funds; Sherrie Szucs for her hard work on the High Point Program; Mike & Sue Davis auctioneer; Paul Szucs & for hosting with his always welcomed sense of humor; Rachael Thompson for auction assistance; A La Cart catering for their exceptional meal. Thanks to all who made this banquet the success that it was. The WHAO would like to acknowledge Mrs. Joann Dowell, who has tirelessly administered our High Point Program for many years past. Mrs. Dowell’s dedication and classic sense of style will be forever remembered in the hearts of those who have received her carefully chosen awards. Many thanks Mrs. Dowell!
