This event is the major fundraiser for FAST. The proceeds from this party weekend will be used to promote the FAST Foundation’s programs such as television commercials and most recently the Equine Education Day. On Thursday evening, April 12th, the Spring Gala will take place at the Blue Ribbon Circle in Shelbyville. Cocktails will begin at 6:00 pm followed by dinner at 7:00 pm. There will be a live and a silent auction, as well a great music. High heels will be traded in for riding boots on Friday and Saturday, April 13th-14th, for the FAST Spring Showcase. CELEBRATION OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE….. CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRIES WILL BE STABLED ON THE SHOW GROUNDS. SHOW HIO recently changed the SHOW rulebook to reflect a recent change at the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ & Exhibitors’ Association regarding the age of horses foaled in the fall breeding season. The current SHOW HIO rulebook lists in Section 2 Definitions (A) Age of Horse, the following: “For horse show purposes, a horse shall be considered to be one year old on the first day of January following the date of foaling. Exception foals born in October, November and December are eligible for classes along with foals born the following year.” The SHOW Rules Committee, chaired by Carrie Benedict, proposed the following change to Section 2 Definitions (A) Age of Horse: “For the purposes of exhibition, the age of a horse will be governed by and determined by the rules and regulations of the TWHBEA.” For more information please visit the SHOW web site at www.showhio.com. Page 26 / The Scoop
What was first recommended in 2014 by the Veterinarian Advisory Council will now become a reality in 2018. This year the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration will host its 80th year. With this milestone event comes a new rule… all championship class entries will be stabled on the show grounds 48 hours prior to their championship performance. The Celebration feels it will allow fans and enthusiasts an opportunity to see more horses, and it will create a more festive environment on the show grounds. This new rule will also create other changes. The entry deadline for championship classes will now be 48 hours prior instead of the 24 hour rule from the past. Even though The Celebration has always offered security around the clock, this change will result in more. The Celebration is very aware that additional security will be required, and they will make this increase in staff. With more people on the show grounds, vendors should see more profit, which in return, will help more charities.

OBITUARY- OREON M. “ODIE” ADCOCK Oreon M. “Odie” Adcock, 91, of East Petersburg, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Born in Unionville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Robert T. and Virginia E. Russell Adcock. Odie was the loving husband of the late Carmella M. “Carmie” Bonelli Adcock who died in February of 2001. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Earlier in his life he enjoyed working on the farm and caring for the horses. Odie had a life-long passion for Tennessee Walking Horses, and his English Pointers and Setters. That love of horses led him to be an expert in raising and training Tennessee Walking Horses. In 1986 Odie was awarded with the World Grand Champion Plantation Tennessee Walking Horse. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders Exhibitors Association. Odie was a member of the National Bird Dog Hall of Fame. He won numerous awards throughout the United States from the American Field Trials Association for his dogs. From a very early age Odie had a love for auctioneering, and his involvement began with the auctioning of horses and rapidly moved to the auctioning of automobiles. For over 47 years he was a devoted auctioneer at the Manheim Auto Auction, working into his eighties. He was the third person in the state of Pennsylvania to officially receive a license from the state for auctioneering. Through Odie and his extended family, auctioneering has grown within the Adcock family. They currently have eight licensed auctioneers in the family who have followed in his footsteps. Odie was a member of the Pennsylvania Auction Association, and he received the highest honor from the National Auto Auction Association. Odie felt blessed by God to be part a wonderful, caring and loving family. To be surrounded by his children and grandchildren was a great joy to him. He will be missed by his loving companion, Elizabeth Wine. Surviving are three sons: Robert J. husband of Deborah Adcock of Lititz, Michael “Scott” husband of Susan Adcock of York, David P. husband of Elizabeth Adcock of York, a daughter-in-law, Kim Sponaugle of Hershey, thirteen grandchildren: Charlie, Brandy, Tanya, Danielle, Morgan, Cydney, Ashley, Michael, Olivia, Connor, Noah, Adrian, Paul, twelve great grandchildren: Reagen, Addison, Braden, Avery, Krystian, Gracyn, Cooper, Lauren, Madalynn, Tristan, Carson, Lawson, two brothers: Robert Allen Adcock, Melvin husband of Maxine Adcock all of Shelbyville, TN., and a sister, Mary Lou Sharon of Shelby, N.C. Preceding him in death are two sons; Thomas R. “Rusty” Adcock, Oreon M. Adcock Jr., a sister, Kansas Spence, and two brothers: J.G. Adcock and William Haines. The Scoop sends our condolences to the Adcock Family.

The event was catered by Little Pig’s Barbecue of Spartanburg. The members were encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert, which complemented the main course perfectly. President, Jennifer Moye conducted the general membership meeting. A revision of the by-laws was proposed and passed unanimously. Dr. Larry Heiden was the auctioneer for the day for the annual auction. There were many unique items such as jackets, gift baskets, and horse items that were auctioned off. After everyone was full of food and had empty pockets, it was time to watch the new horses for 2018. Rae Martin had many stellar colts by Jose’ Jose’, Perfect Hawk, and Gin’s Black Gin, just to name a few. There was a great turn out for the SCWHA Spring Fling this year. The first show in South Carolina will be the South Carolina Ladies’ Auxiliary Show on April 13-14, 2018. The SCWHA is looking forward to a great 2018 show season.
