The 10th Annual Walking For Sight Horse Show

PETERSBURG, TN-The Petersburg Lions Club held their 10th Annual Walking For Sight Horse Show on Saturday May 16, 2015 at the Lions Pride Park in Petersburg, TN. The show was named Walking For Sight to help draw attention to the primary mission of the Lions Clubs around the world. The conservation of the Human eye is their goal and they are sponsoring needy individuals for professional eye examinations and purchasing prescription eye glasses. They also conduct periodic vision screenings and collect used eyeglasses to be recycled and provided to people in poor countries who don’t have access to eye-care professionals. For the past ten years this horseshow has helped donate more than $10,000 to Civic and Service Organizations in Petersburg and help support several vision-related charities of Lions Club International. The 138 entries were judged by the Honorable Ronal Young. Adam Fullerton was Mr. Young’s Ringmaster. The Announcer was Victor Gernt and the Farrier on call was Woody Woodruff. The Organist was Brian Peery. The Photographer in center ring taking the winning shots was Jack Greene. Manager of the show Terry Tudor was very grateful for their sponsorships, exhibitors, trainers, owners and volunteers because without your help and support the show wouldn’t be possible. There were 28 classes and the show started with class two as there were no entries in the Stick Horse class. Each class was represented with good quality horses and averaged 4-5 in a class. The final class of the evening, the Walking Horse Championship Canter Riders’ Cup class was sponsored by Winners’ Circle Horse Supply of Shelbyville, TN. This class was won by I’m Deuce with trainer Charlie Green in the irons. The W.W. Gill Challenge Trophy was provided by the Gill Family of Petersburg, TN. Reserve in the class went to Busted At Pebble Beach ridden by Justin Harris and owned by Bruce & Robin MacDonald.

East Tennessee Walking Horse Trainer’s Association Show

The East Tennessee Walking Horse Trainer’s Association held their 11th Annual Show at the Sevier County Fair Grounds in Sevierville, Tennessee, May 16, 2015. With the scare of much needed rain nothing could stop the 100 entries from riding for that blue ribbon. The ETWHTA has 20 members, and has helped numerous charities and civic groups from the proceeds from their show. The ETWHTA also has a medical fund and scholarship program for trainers and their families. This year, the ETWHTA started their own Trainer’s Cup program. The program is similar to the Riders Cup program with the proceeds going to members of the ETWHTA. Congratulations to all the winners from The Scoop.

North Carolina Ladies Auxiliary Dallas, NC Dallas, North Carolina-Two NCWHA shows in the month of May were held at the Bigger Staff Park in Dallas, North Carolina. The second of the shows was the popular, North Carolina Ladies Auxiliary Horse Show. The event was held on May 16th, 2015, starting at 5:00pm. A total of 37 classes were offered with the first class being Lead Line. This show was affiliated with the NCWHA, SCWHA and KYHIO. Gene Frye served as the announcer while Jane Frye played the organ. Debby Bush was the photographer for the show and Daniel Carmichael marked the cards. It was a beautiful day to be outside and most of the classes were full with top entries. As the evening came to a close, the last class of the night was called with seven horse and rider teams making the gate call. When all was said and done, Double Bogey Blues and Tyler Baucom were the Open Stake class winners for owner, Buddy Stasney. The popular team of Ritz On The Corner and Sam Martin were reserve for owner, Ginger Hartlein. Congratulations to all of the winners from The Scoop!

Raleigh, North Carolina-The Walking Horse Ownerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Association hosted the Tarheel Plantation Classic Horse Show on May 8th-9th, 2015. The show was located at the James Hunt Horse Complex near downtown Raleigh. Morning and evening classes were offered for this big two day event. A total of 83 classes were offered with a variety of rail classes, versatility classes and model classes. Five championship classes were also offered to conclude the show Saturday evening. Yokley Obituary

Wendell Steve Yokley, age 65, died on Sunday, May 17, 2015 in Maury Regional Hospital at Columbia, TN. He was born in Ethridge, TN on November 29, 1949, retired from Maremont Gabriel Corp., his parents were the late Felix Ross and Era Mae Davis Yokley, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dalton and Buddy Yokley, sisters, Shirley Yokley and Jeanette Cox, member of Big Creek Church of Christ. Larry Wheelon Case Blount County Circuit Court Judge ruled that authorities did not act in good faith in securing a search warrant in the case against Larry Wheelon and Stacy Gunter. The results from the search were not allowed as evidence and the case was dismissed.

Eldridge “El” Blackwell Eldridge I. “El”, 87, of Greer, SC, and widower of Edna Wood Blackwell, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. El was born in Holly Springs, the son of the late R.F. “Uncle Bob” and Cecilia Gosnell Blackwell. He was a graduate of Greer High School, retired from Homelite Textron in 1989 after 30 years of service, retired Minister of Music at Ebenezer Welcome Baptist Church Landrum, SC in October, 2011. Lead Singer of the former Foothills Boys Quartet, Past President and Life Time Member (with perfect Attendance) of the Tyger River Ruritan Club for over 40 years and a member of Apalache Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Tommy Blackwell (Sandra) of Greer; one daughter, Dottie Spencer (Steve) of Greer; grandchildren, Ondra Blackwell-Hall (Todd), Bryan Bradley and Christa Spencer Tompkins (Edward); great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jonathan Hall, Chris and Chase Bradley, Mason and Gracie Tompkins; one great-great grandchild, Luke Hall and three sisters, Iva Wood, Ernestine Scroggs and Hilda Morris all of Greer. Mr. Blackwell was predeceased in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Spencer; brothers, Connon, Woodrow, Virgil, Durham, Grover and Rochelle Blackwell; sisters, Bertha Lance, Ruth Smith, Allaree Armstrong, Maggie Armstrong, and Frances Stewart. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wood Mortuary. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Apalache Baptist Church.
