HERE WE ARE AT ISSUE NINE OF OUR VERY SPECIAL MAGAZINE. IN A WORLD WHERE PRINT MEDIA IS STRUGGLING TO KEEP ITS HEAD ABOVE THE SEA OF ONLINE MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA, WE THINK THAT’S A PRETTY AMAZING FEAT! As wedding planners – we have the privilege of being involved with some special couples and their families. As with all vendors involved in the wedding world, it is this connection you make, that means all the hard work that goes into this unique celebration – worth it.
Yvonne Liew Photography
Generally speaking, as a nation, we tend to short change ourselves on life’s celebrations. We are born, we get married, we have the odd birthday celebration, and we die. At least two of these celebrations we are unaware of. Hence more the reason why to celebrate those that we can have some control over and enjoy!
Fineline Photography
The wedding of Ben and Sharma, as a combined Hindu/Quaker celebration was evidence of just how moving different cultural traditions can be. Everyone involved in their celebration – spread over several days – was touched by their ceremonies and heritage. Brooke and Steve’s wedding was a moving example of how important celebrating family and loved ones is, and using a wedding to gather together people from across the country and the globe. Both Brooke and Steve lost their mothers before their time, so their wedding was not only a celebration of the evident love they have for each other, but also gave everyone a reason to gather together for a joyous occasion. Don’t short change yourself on these special moments. There is no price you can put on the memories that a wedding creates, the sense of occasion that it brings, and the ceremony that binds two people together. Whatever that ceremony looks like, whatever religion or beliefs (or not) that it acknowledges, make it special to you, make the memories that will live through the good times, and not so good times, and that will live on after our own “final ceremony”. “The more you celebrate life, the more there is in life to celebrate”. Oprah Look out issue 10 – we are heading your way, and what a celebration that will be! Lots of love Charlotte and Paula xx

NAOMI & ASH 5 / 2 / 2018
M&M: Tell us your engagement story N&A: We were out shopping one day, with our 6 month old puppy Pip. We ducked into a shop quickly and when we returned to the car Pip had had a wee accident on Naomi’s jacket. Later on that day we were walking along the Lyall Bay beach with Pip in tow, I let Naomi use my jacket, and in the jacket pocket was the engagement ring – placed there on purpose. Naomi had cold hands so when she put her hands in the pockets she found the ring.
M&M: Tell us about a stand out vendor that provided amazing service N&A: Our photographer Mel Waite, she helped us through the process so much, more than what we expected from a photographer. Mel had a lot of experience at Boomrock and despite the gale force conditions was able to get a huge amount of photos of us from all different aspects of the venue. M&M: Any special items on the menu or beverage list? N&A: There was no real stand out item on the menu or beverage list because all of the food and portion sizes were AMAZING! Boomrock did a fantastic job of catering for the variety of our guests’ dietary requirements (children, vegans and vegetarians). We couldn’t fault the menu at all. We chose not to do a traditional cake as we had dessert as part of our meal. So instead we did something a bit different and had a two tiered “cheese” cake. The top tier was a Cumin Gouda and the bottom was Brie.
M&M: Tell us about your engagement ring N&A: We bought the engagement ring together before we were actually engaged, we spent a few hours in the Village Goldsmith trying to find the right ring. I eventually found something a bit different and offered it to Naomi to try on, she tried it on and she really liked it – I picked the perfect ring for Naomi. M&M: In three words describe your wedding style N&A: Big Family Dinner (as it was a smaller wedding).
M&M: Planning a wedding is all about a little bit of give and take, what was the aspect of your wedding you wouldn’t compromise on? N&A: We wanted to keep our wedding small and meaningful so only had our closest friends and family present.
M&M: What was the best planning advice you received? N&A: Make sure you get on well with your photographer because you literally spend all day with them. M&M: How did you select your wedding venue? What was important to you? N&A: We wanted a venue that was small enough to make our day seem intimate but still have the WOW factor. We also wanted a venue that resembled the kind of people we are, a place that was also a one stop shop (venue, ceremony, reception and onsite catering). Despite being an incredibly windy day (out of everyone’s control) Boomrock still delivered an amazing venue. They said it was the windiest wedding they’ve had but we honestly wouldn’t change it for the world. It actually made it more dramatic and memorable.
M&M: When your guests have spoken to you about your day since the wedding, what is the most common thing that has been said to you? N&A: People thought the venue was out of this world, and really enjoyed the fact that there was entertainment in the form of extreme golf and clay bird shooting to name a few, which was especially good to keep everyone entertained whilst we were off having our photos taken. M&M: Did you have a honeymoon? Where did you go? N&A: We are headed to Fiji shortly for two of our friends’ wedding.
M&M: What music did you play? N&A: Aisle; Lily Allen - Somewhere Only We Know Recessional; Ellie Goulding - Still Falling For You First Dance; Imagine Dragons - Walking the Wire.
M&M: In three words – describe your day N&A: Windy, intimate, memorable.

BEN & SHAMA 28-29 / 12 / 2017
M&M: Tell us about a stand out vendor that provided amazing service B&S: It’s impossible to single out any one vendor who rose above the rest — they were all superlative. Then again, Janine Sudbury did a phenomenal job hosting an exquisite flamebased ceremony on a blustery day. Ruth Pretty, of course, is a legend for good reason. And Paula Bevege was, to borrow a quote from a letter to Thomas Jefferson, an angel who “rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.”
M&M: Tell us your engagement story B&S: In November 2016, Ben and Shama ran the NYC Marathon. Shama, who started the race with an injury, finished a bit behind Ben, so Ben doubled back after the finish, talked his way past NYPD guarding the finish line, got down on one knee as Shama was 100 metres out, and waved her down like a lunatic. It only took a minute, but Shama was in tears, and a cop took a little video. That minute turned out to be the exact difference between Shama’s finish time and that of Sean Astin (Samwise in Lord of the Rings).
M&M: Any special items on the menu or beverage list? B&S: Ruth’s Whitebait Fritters were the first item our niece, Penny, said was a must-have on the menu. Ben and his siblings, Simon and Evelyn, toasted their late father with a dram of Laphroaig. But most poignant was a final, surprise toast brought to all the guests (and given to all as a party favour): 1977 Croft port, a pipe of which was given to 1-year-old Ben by Evelyn. It had been kept under London’s Paddington Station for forty years, where it matured into one of the two best port vintages of the 20th century. Paula shipped it out to New Zealand, rebottled it, and it served as a fitting and delicious toast to those loved, including those lost, after whom the tables where named.
M&M: Tell us about your engagement ring B&S: In 2010, after an assignment for Time Magazine in South Africa, Ben took a short vacation in Istanbul. While there, he visited the 6th Century Cistern Basilica. While looking at the famous Medusa heads, something seemed to be giving off light in the dim, underground ledge between the water. When he picked it up, it was a diamond. A diamond vendor at the Grand Bazaar offered him US$2000 on the spot for it, but it seemed destined for bigger things. Blair Brown, Ben and Shama’s brilliant friend (and a guest at the wedding), set the diamond in gold from her native Alaska. The stone is set as a bridge between Ben and Shama’s names, carved in Sinhalese, so that when the light passes through the names, it is amplified by the stone. For the wedding band, Blair perfectly halved and shaped Ben’s mother’s wedding band, so that it embraces the engagement ring. Ben’s wedding band, which had been his father’s, was on his right hand since the moment his father passed away on March 7, 2015. At the Hindu Puja, Shama moved the ring from Ben’s right to his left hand.
M&M: When your guests have spoken to you about your day since the wedding, what is the most common thing that has been said to you? B&S: Every guest seems to have their own quirky, wonderful memory. Highlights mentioned: Feeding the eels or the cows at Ruth Pretty’s estate; smashing golf balls at Sudbury in kurtas and saris; boogying to Luke’s hybrid of hip-hop, soul and bhangra/Bollywood. Ben’s nephew Harry Skinner and his dear friend Alayna Ng, who had that week retired from long careers in the Royal New Zealand Ballet, wowed the crowd on the dance floor — right up to the point where Harry split his pants. For us, the centrepiece (except, of course, for Ruth’s divine food) was the unadorned Quaker wedding, introduced by their dear family friend, Mattie Wall. Guests spoke if they were moved by the spirit, and did so poignantly. But just as stunning as the testimonies, was the gentle wind in the trees, the sun dancing through the leaves overhead, the white feathers left by birds the night before and the running brook nearby.
M&M: What was the best planning advice you received? B&S: Hire a wedding planner, namely Paula, a family recommendation. She was flawless. M&M: How did you select your wedding venue? What was important to you? B&S: Before we began our search, we knew that we wanted to be married in Ben’s homeland of New Zealand, and wanted to be married in a small ceremony, with just close friends and family, among nature. Ben’s Kiwi neice, Penny, first suggested Ruth Pretty’s gorgeous Springfield House. It didn’t take much diligence to realize it would be an ideal venue and we hoped she could squeeze us in. Thankfully she could, and Janine Sudbury just down the road was able to host the windswept Hindu puja. They both hosted brilliantly.
M&M: In three words – describe your day B&S: Sweet, abiding memory.

ANNABEL & JESSE 1 / 4 / 2017
M&M: Tell us your engagement story A&J: Jesse proposed in December 2016, during a trip to England. After a West End show, we went to the Oxo Tower overlooking the River Thames, with beautiful views of the London skyline. I didn’t have a clue that he was going to propose, because I was sure I would have known if he was planning something. When he reached into his pocket, I kept saying “no” because I thought it was a joke!
We were fortunate to have so many incredible vendors involved in the day. Charlotte Wood Events was a true stand-out. It can be intimidating planning a wedding, especially from another city. Charlotte made the experience stress free, providing us with invaluable advice and support through the entire planning process. She told us where to invest time and energy, and where to relax and go with the flow.
M&M: Tell us about your engagement ring A&J: Jesse designed the engagement ring with a jeweller in Hatton Garden, and managed to slip away (with an elaborate excuse) to pick it up the day of the proposal. He did an amazing job!
M&M: Tell us about the dress A&J: My mum and I found the dress in Sydney, skyping my dad in when deciding between the final two. I had told everyone I wouldn’t wear tulle or lace, so was very surprised when I tried it on and realised it was the dress for me!
M&M: In three words describe your wedding style A&J: Classic, Romantic, Elegant
M&M: Tell us about the suit A&J: Jesse wore a classic black tuxedo from Working Style, as did his groomsmen. The team at Working Style were amazing. With two groomsmen flying in from overseas shortly before the wedding, they did a great job ensuring the alterations were completed in a few days, so the suits were ready.
M&M: What was the best planning advice you received? A&J: The best advice we received was to invest in things that will be memorable long after the wedding day. It can be easy getting caught up in small details, particularly when Pinteresting!
M&M: Any special items on the menu or beverage list? A&J: The food at Wharekauhau was incredible. Head chef Marc Soper focused on fresh, local ingredients that showcased the region. Lighthouse gin and Wairarapa wine pairings made for the perfect accompaniments.
M&M: How did you select your wedding venue? What was important to you? A&J: Jesse and I both love the Wairarapa and wanted to get married in the region. My extended family farm in the area, and I have very fond memories of heading over the hill to visit them while I was growing up. It didn’t take long to decide that Wharekauhau was the perfect spot. Not only are the lodge and grounds exceptionally beautiful, the staff are so warm and inviting as well. They make you feel like part of the Wharekauhau family and did so for all our guests too.
M&M: Planning a wedding is all about a little bit of give and take, what was the aspect of your wedding you wouldn’t compromise on? Bride…Groom…? A&J: We both perform, so we didn’t want to compromise on having great music, to ensure a full dance floor! We decided to go with a DJ but incorporated live music throughout the day.
M&M: What music did you play? A&J: Aisle; Our friend Heather Wilcock sang a beautiful acoustic version of Sara Bareilles’ ‘I Choose You’, accompanied by another friend, Mark Bradley. Mark couldn’t join us for the wedding, as he was performing in a show in Auckland, so it was lovely to have him play. Recessiona; Friend and family member Bobby Flynn sang ‘Sweet Thing’ by Van Morrison First Dance; For our first dance, Bobby also performed an amazing version of the Fleetwood Mac classic ‘Songbird’
M&M: When your guests have spoken to you about your day since the wedding, what is the most common thing that has been said to you? A&J: We had a lot of feedback on how beautiful Wharekauhau was, and how incredible their staff were. They are so warm, kind and their attention to detail is amazing. The fireworks were also a hit! My mum loves fireworks and surprised everyone with a display set to Rhianna’s Only Girl (In the World).
M&M: Tell us about a stand out vendor that provided amazing service
M&M: In three words – describe your day A&J: Perfect for us.

KATHY & JONO 11 / 2 / 2017
the wedding - it rained a lot that year so we were generally soaking wet and covered in mud most weekends! All the work was worth it in the end though.
M&M: Tell us your engagement story K&J: About four years ago we bought an old bach near the Tararua Ranges. We’ve slowly been renovating it with help from our family and friends, and we love spending weekends and holidays there. We were there one weekend when Jono surprised me with a photo album of all the adventures we’d had together — and then he proposed!
M&M: What music did you play? K&J: Aisle - Got to Get You Into My Life by The Beatles Signing register: Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours) by Stevie Wonder Recessional - Happy by Pharrell Williams First Dance - We didn’t have a first dance because it felt too formal. Instead, we just told everyone to get on the dance floor — which worked perfectly!
M&M: Tell us about your engagement ring K&J: Jono designed the ring. It’s a conflict-free emerald cut diamond, set in a split platinum band. My favourite thing about it is that he incorporated a stylised design of my initials in the band. We copied that for my wedding ring so the two match.
M&M: Tell us about a stand out vendor that provided amazing service K&J: Saluté Restaurant was really helpful and did great food. We love cooking (in fact, we had a reading from one of our favourite cookbooks in the ceremony!) so the food was really important to us. We had big long tables and lots of shared plates. The food was so delicious! Caroline Atkinson was a fantastic photographer. She really went the extra mile to capture all the special moments of our day and was so easy to deal with.
M&M: Describe your wedding style? K&J: We didn’t aim for any particular style, but we wanted the wedding to reflect us as a couple (not too ‘cookie-cutter’) and we wanted it to be full of fun and celebration. We did quite a few things ourselves and asked for lots of help from our family and friends. We grew most of our own flowers and Kathy’s mum did all the bouquets and other flower arrangements. She also made the bunting to decorate the garden and she made Kathy’s veil. Jono’s dad made an archway for the end of the aisle and a neighbour gave us some Manuka plants which we put down the aisle. We did a wedding website rather than sending out invitations, and we designed our own menu cards (and a quiz for the bus!). Kathy’s brother played the saxophone as guests arrived at the ceremony. Our friends made our wedding cake and catered the barbecue the next day (including a huge quantity of home-made halloumi cheese!).
M&M: Tell us about the dress K&J: Helen Forster did a beautiful job with the dress. During the day, I wore a strapless silk dress with a little swing top over it. In the evening, the top was replaced with a lace shell that fitted over the strapless dress underneath. So the basic dress was the same all day but it looked very different in the evening. My mum made my veil and decorated it with some of the flowers from the evening lace. The evening dress was decorated with crystal beads from a necklace that my late grandma gave me.
M&M: What was the best planning advice you received? K&J: The best planning advice I would give would be to double check delivery addresses — because we accidentally got 80 chairs delivered to our home address in Wellington rather than to the ceremony venue the day before!
M&M: Tell us about the suit K&J: Jono’s suit was from Working Style. As a wedding gift, I got him a pair of cufflinks with his initials on them from the Village Goldsmith.
M&M: How did you select your wedding venue? What was important to you? K&J: We got married at our bach near the Tararua Ranges. It’s an old shearer’s cottage in a really beautiful spot, surrounded by the hills and a river. We really wanted to have our ceremony there because it is such a big part of who we are. It was a bit of a challenge because it’s quite remote and there’s no reception so we had to think carefully about how we would get everyone out there and what we would do for dinner and accommodation. It also meant that we did quite a lot of work on the house and garden in addition to planning
M&M: Any special items on the menu or beverage list? K&J: A favourite cocktail at the reception (gin and pomegranate molasses). M&M: When your guests have spoken to you about your day since the wedding, what is the most common thing that has been said to you? K&J: What a great party it was! M&M: In three words – describe your day: K&J: So much fun!

BROOKE & STEVE 2 / 3 / 2018
S&B: Tell us about the dress I was living in London until October 2017 and so I didn’t start looking until I got back but I went to try on dresses at Paperswan Bride in Wellington, and I fell in love with the Wren gown from Daisy by Katie Yeung. From the front, it’s sweet and modest with a sweetheart neckline, and the back of it is sexy and bold – a very low cut with criss-cross straps.
M&M: Tell us your engagement story… S&B: It’s super special. My mum and dad had a weekend booked at the luxurious Wharekauhau Lodge in the Wairarapa but sadly, my mum never made it there as cancer took her life earlier than we all expected. My dad gifted the weekend to Steve and I and off we went to Wharekauhau, feeling like royalty. On the second day, after a horse ride and a beautiful lunch, we went to check out the view of Palliser Bay. When we arrived at the lookout, there was a table set up and I assumed some guests had eaten their lunch out there, but as we got closer, I realised it was set up with champagne. It was at that point that Steve turned to me and asked me if I would marry him. I burst into tears and said yes of course.
M&M: Tell us about the suit S&B: We knew we wanted Steve in a slim fitting suit and Hallensteins had good deals for suits. We went in and tried on a couple of different styles and colours and ended up with the Fenwick Stretch Suit. It looked so good on him, especially as he is a builder and never wears a suit!
M&M: Tell us about your engagement ring. S&B: I was very lucky to be given Steve’s late mum, Glynis’, engagement ring, so it’s very sentimental. I also got her wedding ring – all very special.
M&M: Planning a wedding is all about a little bit of give and take, what was the aspect of your wedding you wouldn’t compromise on? Bride…Groom…? S&B: The top things that we wouldn’t compromise on were food/beverage, music, and a photographer. Steve wanted Heineken, and that was his only demand - which was good and bad as I had to make the rest of the decisions.
M&M: In 3 words describe your wedding style? S&B: Relaxed, Rustic, Fun M&M: What was the best planning advice you received? S&B: To hire a wedding planner, and to enjoy every moment throughout the day.
M&M: When your guests have spoken to you about your day since the wedding, what is the most common thing that has been said to you? S&B: That it was an awesome wedding all round – good food, good music, good MC and speeches, and good vibes – lots of love and super relaxed. That was everything that we wanted to achieve – we wanted our guests to have as much fun as us, and it sounds like they did!
M&M: How did you select your wedding venue? What was important to you? S&B: We wanted somewhere relaxed and where we could select our own vendors. We absolutely loved the garden setting, it felt like an exceptionally beautiful backyard. M&M: What music did you play?
M&M: Did you have a honeymoon? Where did you go? S&B: We didn’t have a honeymoon but we went on a minimoon for a few nights. We went to Clifton Glamping in the Hawkes Bay and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The glamping site overlooked the Maraetotara River and we had a gorgeous outdoor kitchen. We enjoyed grazing on cheese platters and cooking beautiful meals and sitting outside with a red wine. We also slept, a lot!
S&B: Aisle – Altitude by Fred V & Grafix, Amy J Pryce Recessional – Best of my Love by Ella Eyre First Dance – Shut up and Dance by Walk the Moon played by Shaun Preston M&M: Tell us about a stand out vendor that provided amazing service S&B: That’s a really hard question because we had the most amazing vendors – every single one of them - but it would have to be Charlotte Wood Events. I couldn’t have done it without Charlotte! She is the best!

SAM & ALEX 23 / 2 / 2018
M&M: Tell us your engagement story S&A: We’ve been together for 10 years, since we were 16! We went on our first trip together to Queenstown in 2015, I (Sam) had a pretty good idea that this was finally the right time and I was right, as usual. On our first evening in Queenstown we went on the gondola at dusk and as I was looking out over Queenstown, Alexander got down on one knee in the gondola and said some beautiful words which I can’t remember because I was too excited and asked me to marry him. And obviously I said yes!
them and felt really comfortable. Then we got our photos from them and they are amazing. They have captured us and our family and friends so perfectly and we relive our day over and over looking at the beautiful images they have given us. M&M: Tell us about the dress S&A: The dress was completely amazing, I tried on so many and I just didn’t feel like I was made for wedding dresses until I tried the Rue De Seine Beau gown – it accentuated my curves, it was this gorgeous thick lace with a super long dramatic train and then they pulled out the sleeves! I was sold, these lace bell sleeves just made the look and I felt like a bohemian goddess.
M&M: Tell us about your engagement ring S&A: My engagement ring belonged to Alex’s grandmother who passed away a few years ago, she had an amazing marriage and before she passed away she gave us her blessing and hoped we would find the happiness together that she had with her husband. It is a beautiful gold ring, I believe it’s cathedral style where the diamonds sit up quite high and there are three gorgeous diamonds. It’s not a huge ring and I think it’s absolutely perfect.
M&M: Tell us about the suit S&A: The suit was a bit out there for Alex but it worked so well, it was navy blue and had a subtle check print, he actually tried it on just for the size but ended up really liking it. He had a waistcoat made in the same fabric to go with it. M&M: Any special items on the menu or beverage list? S&A: Alex got a nice Glendronach 21 year old scotch especially for the day and we had a Falling Water Cocktail with Feijoa 42 Below Vodka and Chi, with Cucumber and Mint. Our catering was canapés and amazing platters with cheese, meat, bread and veges – they were absolutely delicious.
M&M: In three words describe your wedding style S&A: Bohemian, rustic, relaxed M&M: What was the best planning advice you received? S&A: Not to listen to anyone trying to tell you what to do!
M&M: Planning a wedding is all about a little bit of give and take, what was the aspect of your wedding you wouldn’t compromise on? S: I fell in love with Canon in D and had to walk down the aisle to it. A: I wouldn’t compromise on what I wore, I wanted my threepiece suit.
M&M: How did you select your wedding venue? What was important to you? S&A: We decided to save money by having our wedding at Alex’s parents’ house but it ended up being so special because now when we have children we can show them we got married at their grandparents’ house. It also fitted the style of wedding we wanted being in a garden and also overlooking the harbour.
M&M: When your guests have spoken to you about your day since the wedding, what is the most common thing that has been said to you? S&A: We had a really small intimate wedding and the most common comment is that it was a perfect day and no one could imagine us having a more perfect wedding for us.
M&M: What music did you play? S&A: Aisle, Canon in D Recessional, I Will Follow You into the Dark Deathcab for Cutie First Dance, Can’t Help Falling In Love - Ingrid Michaelson
M&M: Did you have a honeymoon? Where did you go? S&A: We went to the Marlborough Sounds and had a few days a wining, dining and relaxing followed by a three day hike through the Queen Charlotte Track which was just incredible!
M&M: Tell us about a stand out vendor that provided amazing service S&A: Our photographers Sabrina and her now husband Alex were amazing, they were super professional but also felt like long-time friends and they faded into the background perfectly at our wedding. We had an awesome time taking photos with

colours of the sky and hills in the Wairarapa. My amazing maid of honour and mother in law helped me bring that vision to life - we made the whole dress for under $500. I bought a corset from Bendon Lingerie, purchased a skirt online, and we covered it with various colours of blue and grey tulle. The jacket is a family heirloom - my Oma (grandmother) made it over 50 years ago for her own wedding and it was a perfect complement to the dress.
M&M: Tell us your engagement story I&M: After happily dating for five years, Matt proposed in a candlelit cottage in the Wairarapa, a place special to both of us as we’d been on many road trips there together. M&M: Tell us about your engagement ring I&M: Michael Hill solitaire diamond with gold band. M&M: In 3 words describe your wedding style I&M: Rustic, joyful, natural. Everything about the wedding really reflected us and that was what made it special.
M&M: Tell us about the suit I&M: Italian wool blue suit from Rodd&Gunn - tailored expertly by Rembrandt. We also hired the fantastic paisley waistcoat for the reception from Rembrandt.
M&M: What was the best planning advice you received? I&M: Book early! And be true to what’s right for you as a couple.
M&M: Any special items on the menu or beverage list? I&M: Lansdowne House did a spectacular job of the food. The sweet corn soufflé was unreal and all the wines were local Wairarapa wines.
M&M: How did you select your wedding venue? What was important to you? I&M: We researched a lot to find River Terrace. We wanted a stunning outdoor setting with views of the beautiful hills. Reception: We wanted amazing food and something specialthe history and glamour of Lansdowne House certainly delivered that!
M&M: Planning a wedding is all about a little bit of give and take, what was the aspect of your wedding you wouldn’t compromise on? Bride…Groom…? I&M: Aspect bride wouldn’t compromise on: Music. I’m a professional musician (classical pianist) and wanted to have incredible music and Graeme James was beyond phenomenal. I was willing to be flexible with everything else! Groom: Ceremony venue! It was absolutely perfect. We wanted to see the hills!
M&M: What music did you play? I&M: Aisle; Solo violin (Sophie Tarrant-Matthews) Bach Solo Violin Partita in E major: Prelude Recessional; Better Together by Jack Johnson, covered beautifully by Graeme James First Dance; One+One, a Graeme James original
M&M: When your guests have spoken to you about your day since the wedding, what is the most common thing that has been said to you? I&M: It was so beautiful, and the music and food were amazing.
M&M: Tell us about a stand out vendor that provided amazing service I&M: So many – everyone was superb! But Rainer our photographer was truly incredible. He seemed to have an almost psychic sense for when something special was happening and was always there to capture it. He was very calm and put everyone at ease and he did a beautiful job capturing the day.
M&M: Did you have a honeymoon? Where did you go? I&M: Currently on it! Spending two weeks in the Great Barrier Reef. M&M: In three words – describe your day I&M: Joyous, moving, intimate.
M&M: Tell us about the dress I&M: I wanted a blue dress that would reflect the stunning

CHANTEL & JEFF 18 / 03 / 2017
M&M: Tell us your engagement story C&J: Jeff proposed while we were in Rarotonga in December, 2015. We were sitting pool side at our resort, looking at the beach when Jeff suddenly started to get nervous and looking around to make sure no one was watching, he finally popped the question and of course I said yes!
decorations looked! It was the seemingly small things that made everything so much easier. Our photographer Brenna was amazing and also made us feel at ease on the day, with all the planning she put in she didn’t just feel like a stranger when the day came to take photos but more a friend that we wanted to share our day with.
M&M: Tell us about your engagement ring C&J: My engagement ring is a white gold princess cut with diamonds going down either side. We pretty much picked the ring together - I chose a few that I liked and told Jeff that I would like him to pick the one that he liked most. That was really important to me as I wanted it to be special and always know that it was something he loved too.
M&M: Tell us about the dress C&J: I purchased my dress from Sally Eagle it was the most beautiful dress I had ever tired on and fell in love with it straight away and knew it was the one! M&M: Tell us about the suit C&J: Jeff and all the groomsmen purchased their suits from Hallensteins.
M&M: In three words describe your wedding style C&J: Rustic, Elegant, Farm-style.
M&M: Any special items on the menu or beverage list? C&J: Yes! My 10 year old daughter jokingly asked for pizza during one of the meetings with Nick and Zena when we were all discussing menus for the big day. They told her that they would make her one special just for her. It was the little thing that really made our day! I love seeing the photo of my daughter with the biggest smile on her face sitting in front of her massive pizza!
M&M: What was the best planning advice you received? C&J: Do little bits of planning at a time and don’t wait until the last minute. M&M: How did you select your wedding venue? What was important to you? C&J: We fell in love with Ohariu Farm the moment we walked into the venue the owners Nick and Zena were so welcoming and put our minds as ease. Ohariu Farm has beautiful views and is also beautiful in the reception area it was just what we were looking for!
M&M: Planning a wedding is all about a little bit of give and take, what was the aspect of your wedding you wouldn’t compromise on? Bride…Groom…? C&J: We wanted our guests to have a great night so the bar tab was something that we really wanted to make sure did not run out but other than that we were both pretty relaxed throughout it all.
M&M: What music did you play? C&J: Aisle; Turning Page – Sleeping at Last Recessional; Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m yours) – Stevie Wonder First Dance; (Everything I Do) I do it for you – Bryan Adams.
M&M: When your guests have spoken to you about your day since the wedding, what is the most common thing that has been said to you? C&J: Every time we bump into one of our friends or family that we haven’t seen in a while they always comment how much fun they had at our wedding.
M&M: Tell us about a stand out vendor that provided amazing service C&J: I would have to say that I loved everyone we picked to help with our wedding! We made sure that we picked people that we both got along with and could relax around and most importantly have a good laugh with. Nick and Zena from Ohariu Farm went above and beyond throughout the process helping with all of the big decisions as well as the small ones like creating a time line for the big day and being able to visit to have a look at how our table
M&M: Did you have a honeymoon? Where did you go? We took a quick three day trip to Rotorua and just had fun relaxing. We didn’t have much time to go on a big trip as we were also in the process of selling our house at the time. M&M: In three words – describe your day. C&J: I only really have one word for it and that is: Perfect!

A PRIVILEGE & PLEASURE ARTICLE BY AINGIE O’LUAIN
I had no idea what I was walking in to. From the outside Old St Paul’s is a humble white wooden church, and I would have thought not much different from any other dotted throughout New Zealand.
amazing days of your life. It is also a job that holds a lot of responsibility, and the day needs to run seamlessly.
I had no idea about Old St Paul’s strong Wellington history, nor the battle it took to save the church for us to enjoy today, and I certainly had no idea I’d ever work here, nor that I was about to fall in love.
It’s my role, alongside your celebrant to walk you step by step through your rehearsal, so on the day you know when and what to expect.
It’s my role to support you and to know what you have planned to make the day unique and special to you as a couple.
It’s my role not to be seen, but that my presence is felt to reassure your nervous fiancé whilst they await your arrival.
She is breathtakingly beautiful. Everyone who walks through the door is in awe of her beauty; I’ve seen her bring men to tears. You smell the native timber as soon as you walk in the door. She offers you strength, and yet at the same time the ambience comforts you and delivers warmth.
It’s my role to ensure your bridesmaids know what is required of them in order to support you when you’re about to marry the one you love. It’s my role to offer counselling to your mother as she gets overwhelmed by the emotion of the day.
The church is famed for being one of the finest wooden Gothic Revival architectural designs in the world. The illuminated stained glass windows tell stories of another time.
It’s my role to perfect your veil and train before sending you off down the aisle to say “I do” and it’s my absolute pleasure to be the one who opens the door as you’re about to cross the threshold for the first time as newlyweds.
The once upon a time Anglican pro Cathedral is a setting from a fairytale. No longer a parish church, Old St Paul’s is now a proudly cared for Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga property. A consecrated, but non -denominational venue offers the beauty of diversity; absolutely everyone can get married here.
Congratulations on your engagement. Please get in touch. I would love to hear from you and tell you how your history can begin here, with us, at Old St Paul’s.
As the wedding coordinator of Old St Paul’s I have the honour and pleasure of being involved in one of the most special and
In the meantime enjoy the beautiful imagery from our Old St Paul’s styled shoot.
