A family passion for the true Italian spirit
Since 1779, a family passion for the true Italian spirit Grappa Nardini has been produced in Bassano del Grappa since 1779, when the forefather Bortolo Nardini first arrived from the Trentino Region. Originally on his way to Venice, Nardini stopped in this bustling little town, strategically situated at the foothills of the Prealps, an area rich in vineyards on the banks of the river Brenta and a major thoroughfare of commerce. Here, on the eastern side of the famous Palladian covered wooden bridge, Bortolo Nardini opened what is now the oldest grappa distillery in Italy. At the Nardini headquarters on the bridge, you can still find the historical Grapperia where the seventh generation of the family continues to run the business with the same passion as the founder, expertly blending tradition and innovation.
Distilleries Today Grappa Nardini is produced in two distilleries: one in Bassano del Grappa and one in Monastier, both in the Veneto Region, in Northern Italy. Grappa, obtained from the distillation of grape pomace, is the traditional and only Italian spirit. The grape pomace is sourced exclusively from the foothills of northeastern Veneto and Friuli and personally selected by the Nardini family. The destalked grape pomace is stored in the distillery within 24 hours after pressing for wine production, following a process of natural fermentation, in an airtight condition and without the aid of yeast, that would lessen the quality of the final distillate. Distillation takes place in autumn, following the harvest season, utilizing the traditional vacuum-sealed steam method. Grappa is then carefully selected relying on two centuries of experience and with the aid of state-of-the-art quality control systems.
The Process In Bassano distillation takes place in a traditional pot still. The water vapor is forced through the naturally fermented grape pomace, in a vacuum sealed system, which allows a lower distillation temperature and avoids overheating of the pomace that would irreparably damage the taste and aromatic profile of the final product. In Monastier the continuous steam distilling technique is used, resulting in a clean and balanced taste of the final spirit. In both plants the distilled product is sent to the distillation column where the concentration and selection of the noble part, or “heart” of the grappa, takes place. This is a manual process carried out by the master distiller using traditional methods. In a special rectifying still, the heart of the grappa is then re-distilled in order to perfect the quality (double-rectification). The words “doppia rettificata” on the original label are proof that Nardini has always adopted this process to ensure the highest quality of its distillates.
The Process The product obtained from the two distilleries is then expertly blended to guarantee a consistent tasting and aromatic profile, then chill filtered in the final phase of production; this complex method, implemented by Nardini, guarantees one uniform product of the highest quality. As an environmentally-conscious company, Nardini has adopted a system for the re-use of the distilled pomace and its transformation into new resources. After distillation, the pomace is recovered and dried in order to separate its components, which are then later utilised in the cosmetic, food and animal feed industry.
Our Grappas After over two centuries, the unaged grappa Nardini, with its frank, intense and clean taste, remains the undisputed market leader in the sector of premium grappa. The designation “Aquavite di Vinaccia” on the label, synonymous with grappa, has been rigorously maintained for the Italian market to pay homage to the company heritage. In most export markets, due to local regulations, the “Grappa” label is now used. The singularity of the Nardini grappas derives from the unique blending common to the entire line. The same distillate is also infused with the rue plant for the Grappa Ruta. The range has now grown to include two new varieties, the 40% and 60% alcohol by volume that supplement the traditional Nardini grappa of 50% by volume. These grappas are a variation of the classic Nardini blend and have been introduced to offer the consumer a wider taste experience, yet remaining true to their historical roots. Our Riserva Grappas Grappa Nardini is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for a minimum of 3 years to obtain “Riserva”. In this aging period, the grappa is imbued with the aroma of wood, creating a pleasant soft and rounded taste. Ditta Bortolo Nardini was the first in the world to age grappa and their “amber” distillates have always been a point of distinction in the market. For Grappa Riserva, just as for the unaged grappa Nardini, the traditional blend is also proposed in the new 40% and 60% alcohol by volume in addition to the classic 50%. “Grappa Riserva 15 Anni”, an especially elegant grappa aged for 15 years in Slavonian oak barrels, was launched in 2004 to celebrate the 225th corporate anniversary and it is now the most exclusive product in the Nardini grappa line.

Our Liqueurs Using antique recipes passed down through the generations, a rich assortment of liqueurs and aperitifs accompany the line of grappa. Tagliatella and Mandorla are obtained by a premium blend of grappa and fruit distillates. Mistrà, Acqua di Cedro and Ginepro del Grappa are developed from other spirits and enhanced by a skilled blending of herbs or citrus fruits. Back in the 1700’s, they were offered directly from large copper vats in the Grapperia Nardini on the old Palladian bridge; today Nardini liqueurs are served from the traditional bottles with the historic label, without changing that unmistakable flavor for an authentic Italian taste.
